I need a new tv, advice needed

I have a pretty crappy TV on my room, I'd like to spend my money on a new DECENT TV.
My budget is 2000€ = + - 2600$

My room isn't that big so the size doesn't need to be high, I sit pretty close to my screen so I don't want to lose sharpness because of a bigger size.
When I was looking at local shops, I saw regular TV's go to a max. of 1200€ (= +- 1550$) but my budget can go up to 2600$ so I took a look to LCD/Plasma TV's
The first thing I noticed about Plasma TVs were that they are pretty big, the size start around 40 inches.
My TV doesn't need to be that big like I already said + I think, IF you're going to buy a Plasma, you better put enough money in it to be satisfied. (more than my budget allows)
So basically I think Plasmas from my price range aren't (looking at the quality) worth the money... technology for Plasma will evolve enormous in the (near) future

So I took a look at the LCD TV's.. they have +- the same measures for size as a normal TV (of course you can buy an LCD screen for your PC, but I'm not talking about those) but what about their quality? Are they just more expensive than regular TV's because of the fact they are compact & easy to take with you? If so, no need for an LCD than, It's not like I want my LCD everywhere. ;p

so please guys, give me some advice, I didn't know where to ask for advice, I tried google but didn't find any big TV forums... (you can always link me up to great TV forum where I can ask those questions too)

No, its just some awesome tv I got almost 2 years ago ;)

Seriously tho Samsung Televisions are really amazing and have great color and sharpness.

heh I'm thinking about buying a new TV and have a quick question so I'll just post it in your topic instead of making a thread. :p

Widescreen or Fullscreen?

Watching 4:3 movies/anime on 16:9 will result in black bars on the right/left and watching 16:9 movies on 4:3 will result in black bars on the top/bottom. I would go with 16:9 but a lot of games/anime are 4:3... Then I googled a bit and saw this:

check out Panasonic 42PWD7UY (480p, ~$1500US) or HD7UY (720p, ~$2500US) plasmas
or 37" if you really think they're too big.

well if you're watching widescreen on the 4:3 tv with letterboxing (not fullscreen dvds), then that comparison doesnt really apply to you... since with letterbox you do get the full image, just black bars.

I just bought a 75cm (30") NEC LCD TV ($US2,340) the other day which I'm using in a HTPC setup. Really incredible. Fuck going back to a small PC monitor and desktop, never doing that again.

It has to look good in your eyes. Don't bother asking us, go to a tv store and bring your game machine and try it out on several tv's. Pick the one that looks the best for you.

The Westinghouse LVM-37W1 LCD TV is your friend!!

The specs:

Widescreen (16:9)

37-inches wide (perfect for you)

Dual DVI-HCPC ins and an RGB/VGA/PC in too!!!

Best of all, it is, believe it or not, 1080p!!11

And the price??

$2300 USD....right in your price range (this is the cheapest 1080p TV, BTW)

and yes, avsforum.com is the forum to go to for the best info...

so is it true LCD's only pro towards CRT is less weight & space?

Is a cheaper CRT comperated to a more expensive LCD (looking at their quality) the same?

That Westinghouse is awesome. I won't be looking at another LCD HDTV until next year but that price is awesome. Hopefully they'll have a 42" or 50" by then.

klee, do you think the 24" dell flat panel monitor would be good enough for HD gaming?
im thinking of just going with a flat panel monitor for the next gen, instead of a tv. as long as the inputs are digital, it should work, right?

thomson is better, especially on games and rgb! got mine for 650 € -> its big, but with a superb picture quality on 100hz.

How long is it exactly until everything switches to HDTV? I'm in the unfortunate situation of being a university student that needs a new TV next year. Being a university student, I don't have that much money, but being a gamer, I want a really good TV. Also if everything is switching to HDTV soon I wouldn't want to buy an old fashioned TV just to have it unusable. I want to get a new one, but it seems like the best idea might be to just buy a junk TV at a pawn shop and wait till I get out of university. Unless anyone else has any other suggestions.
