For me before moving onto a new generation I have to see more games from this generation of Xbox series x, has this gen been enough for you? GT7, Ragnarok, Halo Infinite, Spider-Man 2 I'm sure I'm missing more proper AAA games (ghost of tshuma) are we okay with moving onto a new generation? Yes I'm getting this thread out of here before the weekend GAF crew arrives

New consoles being discussed feels so ridiculous to me considering it feels like there hasn't been enough that has released this generation at all. Especially exclusives. I have 3 games on PS5, lol.

You'll be to stay on PS5 for most of the PS6 generation and still play the majority of new titles released.

Yep. PS4 got Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, Ragnarok, GT7, Black Ops 6 and more. Developers will only end support for PS5 once everyone has moved on.

For ps5/xsx owners being disspointed with their mashines- sorry bros both microsoft and sony fucked us over big time this gen, by holidays 2027 when we get ps6/magnus most logical move will be either get gaming pc or get proper nextgen mashine, just so u dont have to play pean last gen version of the games and instead play proper next gen/crossgen games with much better settings/image quality/framerates, yes even if last gen gonna be 70 and next gen 80usd(nextgen tax is by now more than certain, hopefully its only 10$ but who knows).

We all saw colorado canion of gap between series s and ps5pr0 crimson desert, gta6 versions gap will be just as big if not bigger even, and difference between regular base ps5 and ps6/magnus gonna be even bigger, and believe me- u dont wanna be left behind on last gen mashine.

I think the "time to move on" is decided more based on hardware than software, but I get what you mean. This gen has felt a little lackluster, especially if you look at Sony exclusives. But they'll move on to next gen whether we're satisfied or not.

The cross-gen period for next generation is going to be insane, IMO. The increased cost of next Gen hardware is going to keep people (myself included) on this Gen's hardware for a much longer time. I think someone with a PS5 Pro and a decent additional SSD will be able to make the most of it for many years after "next gen" launches.

What about when we go to a 40 series card to a 50 series card? Barely any games that need that jump but that jump was done annually right??

We are in the eternal gen now. Only "upgrade" from here will be photorealistic AI stuff. We've reached the human and locally computed limit. We're just bouncing off the ceiling refining it while we wait.

Says games take longer to make because the world's are so detailed.
We've yet to see anything that's beyond last gen, maybe a few titles.
Tries to sell you even more powerful hardware...

I'm sure I'm missing more proper AAA games
I don't know what do you mean by that exactly…..is games like RE9 are not "proper" AAA games?

Or are you just talking about "exclusives"?

I don't care what's considered "proper" AAA games and I don't even care if they AAA or AA….all I want is fun games and I'm getting plenty of that in 3rd party games.

If that's the case, you don't need more from anyone... You need a new hobby.
Nah, I don't. I just primarily play on PC as majority of the games were/are usually cheaper. I got it for exclusives, and there really weren't many.

I get what you're saying, but I personally don't view a PC component upgrade the same way I view an entire console. Because typically new consoles = new games, new GPU = same games just better performance (but also depends on how big of an upgrade it is, lol.)

This triggered me hard

Another new gen with an endless cross-gen period. It'll probably be 4-5 years cross-gen, especially for third parties
PS6 handheld and RE9's Switch 2 sales say that most games are going to have a very similar tech target to what they have today. Considering AAA games take 8 years to make, the big mid gen blockbusters must already be underway at our favorite studios, so it's not like the tech can be that crazy. We know what GPUs they're working with.

This gen went by so fast. The current consoles still have a "newness" to them. When I boot up my PS5 I feel so happy because I can't believe I have one. That is due to the chip shortage during covid times. The UI still feels brand new to me.

I don't want to upgrade for at least 3 more years.

Good. Give me cross gen since I'll not make the jump for quite some time. You guys just play the same game with an bigger puddle or something.

Why are you only listing exclusives. If I only played ps5 exclusives I'd be cranky too. That would leave me with demons souls (which I prefered the 2009 OG), astrobot and gt7 for ps5. Not very much at all. A far cry from the uncharted/resistance /killzone trilogies of the ps3 era.

There has been great 3rd party games on every system. That is where you look. I seen yhr writing on the wall once Xbox and Sony went woke and also gaas heavy.. Limited games for me from them. Although I spent at least 500 hours or more in to gt7 over the years.

I graduated from PS4 to PS5 only about 4 months ago. For me, the generation has just begun. I'm still exploring all that this system has to offer. I have no immediate desire to usher in another new generation.

Specs are pretty much fake and insignificant, it's just pure PR and marketing at this point.

This gen has been a disgrace (in regards to noteworthy releases), and barely any games have really pushed the hardware.

So I see almost no point for new hardware.

Only exception being related to Nintendo, since their consoles are always a joke tech wise.

Still undecided if I'll even ever go for a next gen console. No earlier than 2030, that's for sure. I'm still even waiting for the game to buy a Switch 2 for.
What I do know though is I want to get off Windows permanently for my PC gaming so I'm looking forward to the Steam box.

has this gen been enough for you?
Not by a long shot. Not enough new games that appeal to me on those traditional systems. If it wasn't for Switch I'd say the whole gen was a bust. That's why I'll likely skip next Xbox and PlayStation altogether. Especially considering the hefty price tag that will surely come with them. Makes it an easy no.

No matter how it ends this will be a mediocre gen as far as first party games from Sony is concerned , cant speak for MS games since I dont care for them and dont own the console.

Its the worst playstation gen by far, they could prolong to 2030 and try to gain momentum but I doubt it .

For the first time I really dont give a shit about a new console launch. For what ? Puddle reflexes and pretty lights ? 4000x zoon comparisons? ... nah if the ps6 launches with kick ass exclusive games them Im in .. if its just "tech"... fuck off I really dont needed

Then don't buy a new console. The crossgen period will last well into the 2030s. With Sony not releasing their stuff on PC exclusives is something you won't be missing by the time PS5 hits its 10th anniversary.

You only bought 3 PS5 games? Why would you truly do that when there waa hundreds of games released.

What does PC offer that a PS5 or Xbox Series doesn't?
I can tell you what it does not offer: a consistent sleep-resume system. Sure the PS and XB might conk out once in a 100 times. With PC games it is a gamble whether shit works or not (on Steam Deck, the less said about windows the better). Wireless controllers wake on sleep also does not work consistently. I do not know how good the HDMI CEC is on PC, so it might not wake up your TV and also not go to sleep when the TV is shut off.

These friction points were enough for me to stop my PC adventure (got a steam deck before the PS5). The only gaming hardware I am interested in getting is the PS6 portable, that will mesh with my lifestyle and offer sufficient power for my gaming needs. Thanks to cross gen and the economic realities of game dev, I do not anticipate any PS6/Helix exclusive games until 2032 at the earliest.

This has been a real limp-dick console generation. The Xbox and PS5 have been pathetic in terms of pushing the medium forward.

And now, PC is even stagnant. It's almost like we're completely reliant on new ideas and high-quality execution now.
