I still think Wolverine will eventually be on PC

You will literally never hear Sony say "we're not going to release games on PC any more".

The fact that they didn't deny the reports when they've denied countless others in the past tells us all we need to know.

Stock holders will probably ask the question. I went ahead and asked AI to generate an accurate answer.

While we certainly appreciate the underlying intent and the strategic perspective driving this inquiry, we must currently prioritize the stabilization of our existing operational framework and the rigorous stewardship of our core mission-critical objectives. After a comprehensive cross-functional evaluation of the proposed alignment, it has been determined that the suggested course of action does not sufficiently converge with our prioritized roadmap or the immediate exigencies of our high-level resource allocation strategy. Consequently, in the interest of maintaining optimal organizational synergy and fiscal discipline, we are unable to facilitate a positive progression on this specific front at this juncture.

Got my ps5 pro so I'm good. I could see wolverine going to pc though but I think Sony will be pulling away from most games unless console sales crater which won't happen.

Sony will definitely release games again on PC, but first their profit margins would need to take a hit from the PS+ revenues. If they were smart, they should've done a proper PC store years ago, that acts as a hub for their Cloud and subscription service.

Nope.

At the end of the day Sony hasn't confirmed or denied in the Bloomberg report Sony denied to comment on it. So everything is speculation. Until I here Sony in their own words say they are done then they are done.
😂

Trying to have faith eh ? Lol

Man if they were not done they would have denied the rumor . Its very clear. Bloomberg is too big and won't be ignored by Sony if this was false rumor.

This is done. .. but you know what..if you wanna keep believing then it's your call lol.

If the leak is real they would likely have to pay to get out of releasing on PC. It really depends how intent they are on shooting themselves in the foot with this alleged strategy.

Yes, they haven't denied any of the 5000 rumors about a Bloodborne remake over the past years. But it sounds like it isnt in the cards does it?

Randoms talking out of their ass on 4Chan is one thing. One of the most authoritative videogame journalists in the world writing a report about it for fucking Bloomberg is another.

We don't have the full details of the contracts, we only know from the leak that Sony has the rights to release those licenses on PlayStation and PC, not that they're required to put them on PC. Considering how PlayStation's strategy was at the time, it's more likely Sony chose to bring Spider-Man 1 and 2 to PC. And we also know Marvel can't release other X-Men games while that contract is active.
The leak included the related full details of what we need for this case: a PC version was included, a minimum 6M copies in the first year for PS5+PC were required and the penalty for Sony for not achieving it.

Jason Schreier disagrees

Maybe he doesn't know that the leak included two different roadmaps mentioning Venom: one mentioning for 2025 and another one mentioning it for 2027. The Venom document was also a pitch, which means that project could have been greenlighted or not.

The Wolverince case is different because as mentions there already was a signed deal.

He and his propaganda outlet has been multiple times debunked, particularly in this case because of mading out fake news to throw shit to Sony.

Jason has been known to screw the pooch multiple times even when given "2+" sources and having had retract. Until directly from Sony or lots of others collaborate from different sources its still just a rumor. Probably is true, but really we have heard this from just one person so far. Other than a lot of "I feels" like this could be true. We will find out soon enough.

Jason said Sony no longer plans to bring its big games to PC, including Wolverine. At some point, people just need to accept that instead of convincing themselves it's still going to happen.

Sony makes most of its money from PlayStation consoles, so it's not that surprising they'd stop pushing their biggest games onto competing platforms.

Apparently a lot of people don't realize how important the PlayStation division is for Sony. If console sales ever collapse because of short sighted decisions, the entire company is fucked. From a business standpoint, it just makes sense.

If it is in the contract with Disney, it will require considerable renegotiation to turn it into an exclusive. Which, will come with some performance targets to secure the exclusively. If it sells more than Spiderman, comfortably I could see it staying on PS. Just depends I guess.

You mean collapse like they will now after raising the prices of their hardware significantly?

They already said they expect hardware and new users to collapse and intend to make it up by ripping off their captive fanboys with stuff like PS+ price hikes and surge pricing.

Considering the potential and significant price increase of the PS6, Sony will do their best to protect the value of their hardware and especially the platform as a whole. I so them backing off completely from PC ports in the future.

The PC versions of their gaas have outsold Playstation nearly 3:1 (potentially 5:1 in Marathon's case), there is zero chance they stop doing multiplayer only ports.

My thoughts as well. Releasing on Steam was a mistake. Yes, people would grumble about yet another launcher, but Sony could have protected their brand imaging and profits better by going this route. Can't imagine it would be a big software development lift to make and maintain a simple one. As a PC gamer that loves Steam, I would just suck it up and use the PS launcher.

From the 2023 Insominiac leak

Key Details of the Agreement & Future Plans:
  • Wolverine & X-Men Exclusivity: The agreement, lasting through 2035, grants Sony/Insomniac exclusive rights to develop X-Men console and PC games.
  • PC Ports (Nixxes Collaboration): While the games are exclusive to PlayStation at launch, they are expected to arrive on PC later, often in collaboration with Nixxes Software. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for a PC release on January 30, 2025.
  • Continued Partnership: Marvel Games has stated they will work with Insomniac for "many years to come," with projects stretching toward the late 2020s and early 2030s.
  • Upcoming Projects: Following the success of the Spider-Man series, Insomniac is developing Marvel's Wolverine (expected 2026) and has further X-Men projects planned.
  • Limitations on Others: Under the agreement, Marvel cannot announce other X-Men games from other publishers for consoles or PC during the contract term, though X-Men characters can appear in broader, "multi-family" Marvel games.
The stuff hopes and dreams are made of lol.

Steam's revenue share doesn't even factor as a fart in the wind of Sony's decision making, their real concern is PC eroding console in general, and thus Sony's stranglehold on PS store, PS+, Vbucks, Robux, and Genshinbux.

Disney is paying for it, right? If that's the case then I think all bets are off. I don't think Sony could come off easily from a deal like that when the product is almost done and I don't see why Disney would be interested in leaving money on the table to support Sony's strategy.

Might be the last, though.

What? Disney isnt paying anything.

Disney pay nothing, it just get some part of revenue from the sales.

What really Disney is paying is the game project developed by Disney's own studios and these Disney+ film, tv shows and e.t.c.

So you think Sony is going to gamble trying to sell over 6M copies of Wolverine in the 1st year on PS5 alone? Wolverine is not Spider-Man. Ghost of Yotei has yet to sell 6M copies

Of one of three major titles ;). I think Spiderman already did.

I mean, Sony has yet to release a single new SP release on PC within a year of it's PS5 release.

So yeah, I do.

The agreement was for console and PC unless the terms of the agreement changed.

If They had simply licensed the PlayStation version, they wouldn't have the flexibility to release a PC port later without further negotiations. Therefore, it's highly likely they secured those rights upfront to ensure a streamlined rollout.

Things change all the time and if sony wants to change it, disney will likley agree since its basically their only successful partnership in the marvel department.

There's no gamble. The PC release was always delayed, if they need to reach a certain number they know they need to do it with PS5 only.

But then the requirement to sell 6M copies also takes into account it would be released on PC otherwise that number is much harder to achieve on PS5 alone. Keep in mind the leak had a working PC version of Wolverine, they were working on the PC version in tandem.
