I say this while playing SFV, It's the worst of the current wave of fighting games. It just happens to have the biggest and most active playerbase in my area (actually it's Smash, but too many of them are actual children). I honestly can't wait for Pokkén DX and DBFZ. Every week I think about biting the bullet and learning Guilty Gear or Tekken since people at least look like they're having fun playing those games.
I think it's time to shed the idea that Street Fighter V is a bad game.

Not saying you're wrong, I just can't figure out what people find so offensive about SFVs gameplay that other traditional fighting games do so radically differently.
It's too restrictive. I just feel like there's too little room for a player to create their own style and two matches between different players using the same characters feel too similar as a result. SFIV was arguably too loose which had its own problems and I played the most non-conventional character in the series, so going from one extreme to another didn't help. But even in a game like Pokkén which is far more restrictive than SFV mechanically feels more liberating.

It's is so stagnant in the metagame that I really can't tell the different between Super Golds and Masters if there was no HUD. Everyone doing the same combos, same set ups. No executional difference, and the elimination of reliable defensive options really boils every single character down into a vortex fest.

I'm not good enough at fighting games to be able to notice these things tbh but I do get the impression that there isn't as much diversity in the roster compared to other fighting games, so if that extends to a lack of variety in the mechanics at a high level then I can see that being a problem.
But presumably that's a fixable problem. I just hope Capcom does relaunch the game with these kinds of tweaks and some new characters that are a bit more non-conventional.
It just seems like there's too much good in SFV for Capcom to squander, I really hope they can end this gen with it being remembered as becoming the best fighting game of the generation even if it didn't start of so.
This is the wrongest comment in this thread. The game is much more fun at Super Gold than it is at Super Bronze. Like what are you even talking about. Super Gold is when you finally start to get past all the randomness.
Did you miss the part where I said everyone at Super Gold+ is doing the same set ups and same combos. Random beginner mashing is more exciting that the severe flow chart system the characters seem to be designed around.

3D ASW games are bad counter example. First of all, they still do everything by hand (just watch their GDC presentation on youtube), each frame, rework each shader manually. They went to 3D to have more options in presentation for stuff like story mode and camera change during fight, whereas the regular case is to actually save cost.

Numbers don't lie. Last year there were over 5000 players in the tournament. This year it dropped massively by half to about 2600. Aside from pro players, a lot of High level non-pro (not sponsored) street fighter players expressed their distaste for V. They're the ones who didn't show up to evo.
IMO. The evo SFV hype this year was centered around punk. This was the first time in the modern SF era where a US player was the favorite to win in evo. If punk didn't exist SFV would of been flat.

At work, SFV network matches don't seem to work - there's some kind of network issue.

Do you have any proof of what you're saying? Note that every single main game at Evo dropped in registered players except Tekken 7 which released on consoles a month ago. Every game, including the Smash games that dropped at similar percentages. Did players of those games suddenly lose interest in them, too? Or is SFV so bad it ruined every other fighting game, somehow?
Keep in mind that SFV's player total last year was bigger than any game ever at Evo. And this year SFV's total still beat out SF4's total at its largest.
What most likely happened is Evo 2016 was a fluke and/or the increased ticket prices that came with Mandalay Bay hosting all three days (instead of just finals) kept people from registering. But you can't just point to SFV's drop and ignore all the other games that dropped to make your argument work.
So you're right. Numbers don't lie but people can lie about numbers.
And then there's weirdos like me... who love Street Fighter and think SFV needs to be a LOT better. "Play other fighters then!"
... And, well, I do. KOF, Soul Calibur, Guilty Gear, Blazblue, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Injustice, Dead or Alive, Skullgirls, Killer Instinct, etc.
It's because I play the other games that I see so many areas of SFV that I feel need improvement, and yet I still don't HATE the game. I just find it far beneath my expectations given the current market of games I also play.

You understand that Evo registration dropped for all games, not just SFV right? I think the only game that saw a bump was Tekken 7, because last Evo people were competing in a game with no console release.

And I have no idea what the link to the SF4 EVO numbers was for. SF4 capped at 2227 and SFV hit 2622 registrants this year. That is completely in line with what I said.
All the games that were at both Evo 2016 and 2017 dropped in player numbers in 2017 except Tekken 7. That one increased, unsurprisingly, because it was an arcade only game prior to June. If you weren't in Korea or Japan you probably couldn't play that game.
If you think the drops weren't big enough for other games my explanation is that they have much smaller turnouts in general. SFV's numbers are huge so they much more room to drop. The Smash games are the other games that get big numbers and they dropped at similar percentages (like I said) unless you think 49% and 54% are a world apart from 64%. That's a 10% difference between the #1 and #2 games at Evo 2016, and the #1 game SFV had double the registered participants of the #2 game.

I think you will really like GG (or maybe BB). Both are very loose, but not in a way SF IV was. It takes time to learn all it's mechanics and to become good, but once you do I think it might become one of your favorite games.

As I mentioned before, SF V is a game about reading your opponent first and foremost.
I can absolutely tell apart two different ranked players by how they play on their neutral, their punishes, when they actually apply said combos and setups.
Taking, for example, MOV's Chun-Li. He isn't doing anything amazing in terms of combos or setups with her and yet he was the only one using her that got to top 8 at EVO.
The difference between MOV and everyone else using Chun Li is because he plays smarter with her and he uses almost every opportunity in a match, which is incredibly hard to do that without dropping, even for basic combos. MOV had match-up knowledge and, more importantly, he knew how to use Chun's tools to get into his opponent's head.
I would join a lobby anytime if this happens.

Not if your only gaming devices are switch and Xbox One. Besides, Xbox and Switch support crossplay, too. The Microsoft platform even supports cross-buy.
Maybe if they had a year and a half ago when it launched (and before that when the deals were made), this would be relevant.
