I think Keanu Reeves is going to give a mediocre performance in Cyberpunk 2077 and possibly ruin the game for me....(Agent Smith, GET ITT!!!™)

I just saw the latest behind-the-scenes video of Keanu Reeves talking about the making of the game, etc.

I realized how bad some of the voice acting is from his end. Is it just me or does only Rockstar Games bring out the best of Hollywood Actors when it comes to voice acting? (e.g. GTA Vice City & San Andreas)

The E3 moment was nice, but I think he was a terrible choice from a hardcore gamer's perspective.

Marketing wise, he's an ace in the hole for Cyberpunk 2077 as you can already see fanboys using his character as their avatars.

Overall, I predict that reviewers and hardcore gaming enthusiasts will criticize Keanu Reeves' performance as subpar and adding nothing to the overall quality of the game.

What do ya'll think, GAF?

What in his 30 year filmography has made you think he was anything other than mediocre as an actor?

Best Youtube Comment Ever: I, for one, think it's amazing that a young British actor such as Mr. Reeves was capable of doing such a convincing California accent in Bill & Ted.

CDPR's mediocre game play mechanics will ruin the game, not Sir Keanu

What the fuck, what kind of a title is- oh it's MiyazakiHatesKojima again!

:messenger_tears_of_joy:

I like Keanu Reeves but it's not always good movie actors manage to deliver in video games. Hopefully it wont be immersion breaking to the point were you can only think about Reeves anyway.

I don't think he'll ruin the experience
....but yeah, I don't expect him to be good.

Dude seems like a cool person, and apparently he puts in the effort in the physical aspect of roles like John Wick. But I've never found him to be a particularly good actor and in the video above he even says he has little experience doing voice work.

He's playing a digital ghost, so it's probably fine if his character feels off. Like he was well suited to playing Neo, since that character was a cipher.

He really phoned in the recent Bill And Ted, but when he gives a shit he does his thing it works. Fingers crossed.

To be fair I thought he sucked in Toy Story 4: being an actor doesn't actually make you a good voice actor. It's a different skill set in that you're not playing off another person like in a film or play.

Horrible thread, the game will be amazing you hater! Saged.

There are 4 things that go into this:

Directing
Voice acting delivery
Script
Animation/mocap quality to match with the mood/expressions/voice.

Fail at any of those 4 and you'll get an off feeling about the character. Keanu's voice won't change overnight per say. The dialogue (script) has to be tailor made for his type of demeanor.

From a recent dev interview it didn't seem like Keeanu was their first choice for the role. At least from the way he was talking.

I fucking love the guy.

I mean yeah, objectively he's a dreadful actor, really awful. But he's just cool as fuck, and just such a dude that I don't care.

I don't think he's ever been known to be a great actor like say, Ed Harris or Joaquin Phoenix. He's just got the "everyman" charm that people like.

But I'll agree that from what I've seen in the leaked footage of his character speaking, it seems EXTREMELY phoned-in. Oh well. Game will probably still be dope.

It's not like he can give a worst performance than an anime dub voice actor,

Also, KojimahatesMiyazaki

I agree big time. In fact the whole marketing with him is so cringe. Cd red need to humble themselves

Ironically enough Bill and Ted. He played the role flawlessly, and had so much energy and enthusiasm. Nowadays every role he does plays into his flat acting abilities by hamming up the quiet and dry tough guy. I find it really boring and shitty. I think it all comes down to the internet saw all those sad Keanu memes, learned how humble and good he is as a person and just put on the love blinders ignoring how bad his acting has become as of the last 10 or so years.

Apparently OP isn't aware of Mr. Reeves' lack-of acting abilities. His charm is why he's loved. His charm will be present in CP2077.

Nothing wrong with Bill and Ted but I would hardly call it great acting. He was cast to play a doe eyed, brain dead dope.

keanu has never been a good actor, he just has this likeable aloof quality that's kind of tough to pinpoint but it's why he's so beloved. he's proof that you don't need to be a convincing actor to be fun to watch. nicholas cage is another example of this phenomenon.

honestly i think he'll fit in just fine in the game and i'm glad he's in it.

*pauses video*

Can I just say that I believe this is a video of Neo talking about making cyberpunk, not Kanunu Reeves? That's how I see it. It's awesome. More to come.

AFTER VIEWEING:

I didn't see too much there to make me think it'll suck. I rather think, judging by recent xbox gameplay footage, that it's the animations and lip sync that'll undermine performances. It ain't no Death Stranding.

But let's keep in mind a few things:

A) It could always get patched
B) We're talking about Kanunu Reeves, he's not a great actor, he's just had hella iconic roles and played them well.
C) The character is clearly a lot deeper and more fleshed out than we've been shown - suggested by some of the arguments he's been shown to be recording in this video - and it can still have a chance at being well done.
