I want to replace my 9800 PRO

ok .. I'm buying the new card from Newegg.com

wat to buy .. ? I'm not sure wats te difference between the cards.. and I'm still not sure if I would go with ATi or nVidia

9800 PRO to a 6600GT wouldn't be that big of a difference.

200 dollars for a 9800PRO? That is a damn good deal. Anything special about this card. I'm surprised the buyer is willing to pay so much for a used card when you can get new ones for less.

Sell the 9800 PRO I would go with a 6800GT card.

How much money are you willing to spend?

not much actually ..

I'm happy with my card, but $200. that made me think :)

I don't mind spending $50 more, but thats about it I guess

Well, your options are really limited with 50$ extra.

Your best bet is to sell for $200 now, and buy an X800XL for $300 when it's out. Otherwise, selling your 9800PRO and buying another 8 pipeline card for more money would be dumb..

isn't the X800PRO supposed to be 200USD very soon or? I am asking as my brother wants to upgrade his gf4 ti 4800.

Probably not.

The X800XL looks hot, but it is PCI-E only right now until ATI gets off their lazy arse and offers a bridge chip. I'd sell my 9800PRO and buy the X800XL right away if a bridge chip was available.

I'm having a tough time trying to recommend you a card to buy after you sell your 9800PRO. I would say the 6600GT too if you only want to spend 50 bucks more at most. But I'm not sure why you are selling your card then unless you play a ton of Doom 3...!

If you're going to buy a 300$ graphics card, you may as well move onto PCI-Express and increase its re-sale value tremendously.. By the time you want to sell your X800XL no one will want to buy an AGP card anymore.

WTF is it taking so long to get an Athlon compatible mobo with PCI-E compatibility?
I asked for one at my local PC shop and they looked at me funny.....

usually, I don't sell my stuff, I can't remember that I've sold anything before...

I don't wanna end up spending moey on an upgrade tat I don't need...

but as I said if I can get $200 for this card and by adding $50 I can get something with a noticable difference then I'll do it. Otherwise I'd rather buy new games and stuff..

I'm not willing to upgrade my Mobo to PCI-E not in the coming 2 years atleast...

You can find an AGP8X 6800gt, but it'll run you at least $300.
If you're only willing to shell out an additional $50 then the difference in card performance will be marginal, leaving you to ponder why you made the slight upgrade in the first place.

Is there a huge difference between 128 and 256 MBs ?

and te $319 one is only using a normal DDR while the others use GDDR3

With 9800XT and above, yes, there is significant difference in games that use very large texture caches such as Doom 3 and and Half Life 2. for 90% of games in the market though, it makes negligable difference. If you buy PCI-Express, you can also use VRAM as system RAM under Linux. If I bought something to replace my 128MB 9800XT these days I would definitely go for a 256MB X800XL, nothing less..

Why the hell would someone pay that much for a used card when a new one can be bought for less?

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

i.e. eBay.

Half the stuff sold on eBay can be had for below that price in retail. *shrug*

If you had PCIE, this would of been a very easy decision. The R430 based X800 "PRO" with 12 pipes is going at 199.99. ATI is really showing love to the PCIE crowd. Anyways, if you have an older back up card, you can wait two months and look around again. ATI has promised the "Rialto" bridge chip in two months time. Otherwise, the 6600 GT is it for not spending more then 250.

that means no PC games untill i buy a new card .. and I know I'll waste the money on .. here and there

so its either, instant replacement, or none

If you want to get a good price for your hardware/games, sell to Europeans :lol Especially with the Euro at 1.36USD right now, importing from the US is teh cheap. I see used 9800pro's sell for €160-170 which is about $225.
