I was *this* close to preordering 3 360 wired controllers...

but it's been months since E3 and i've decided to just get anal raped by MS and buy a wireless pad, 2 wired pads and 2 p&c kits...

Why would you buy two p&c kits? Why not buy one p&c kit and an extra battery? Unless you think you're gonna have to charge both wireless pads at the same time, you could save yourself $8.

it's fucked up how the wired pads are $40 and don't even have analog buttons like the xbox controller...

Did any games really even use them?

some people aren't complete fucking idiots or don't have friends that are tools and can manage something like 4 wires not getting tangled and pulling a console off a coffee table...

plus, when living in an aparment building

1) other people are using phones, wireless routers, microwaves, etc,

2) there isnt that much space anyway so a 10ft cord is more than long enough

3) dont have to buy or charge or manage batteries or battery packs... ever...

i'd like to make it 100% clear, if i could plug 4 wired controllers into the 360 i would

and for those people mentioning USB hubs, they don't work with magic, they need to be supported, so unless you actually tested one or know a dev who did then don't even waste time mentioning it... and if you have or know someone who did, how about some details like was it powered or not, what make and model, etc...

Anyone know if there were any Xbox 1 games that used the analog face buttons (and required you to use them, I remember DOA3 had an option you could turn on, but it sucked)...maybe the MGS2 Substance port?

Seems like it might be a small backwards compatibility glitch, now that I think about it.

Hmm good point, I think DOAXBV also used them and if it was anything like the PS2 version, MGS2 would also have used them.

AND it has 4 front USB...
The front ports are for charging the wireless controllers, just like the 360. There won't be any wired Sony brand controller.

BAM! Or better yet, WTF are you thinking buying wired controllers?

Wires are a form of communism.
He hates (wireless) freedom. :(

You can get 3 wireless controllers for under $100 right now. You can easily get 4 wired controllers for under $100...
shhh, don't tell MS that...

well, after the first $163 what's another 7?

i mean, i'm already getting screwed with the $40 wired pads and a $50 wireless that has the rechargeable battery sold seperately...

and yeah, charging both at once while not playing is a part of my plan...

the specs say otherwise

no, you hate freedom, freedom is choice...

One of the slides from Sony's E3 conference clearly shows on a diagram an option for wired controllers. (On a side note, they mentioned that wireless controllers can be charged through ANY USB port, presumably not just on PS3..in case, you know, you run out of them :p ;)). It actually might just be the case that all PS3 controllers are wireless but come with a USB charging cable as standard, meaning you could plug in more beyond the 7 wireless that are supported, if needs be. That'd probably be the neatest solution, as long as they were reasonably priced of course.

Where I think the lack of USB ports could be a problem is when people come together for multiplayer and bring their own controllers. It happens a lot, in fact that's how we do it amongst my friends. If 4 "Joe Core Packs" get together, they mightn't be too happy.

You get worked up easily don't you?

How the hell does a joke about freedom of wireless controllers get to "freedom is choice!"? :lol

The face buttons were analog?

nice try at diversion there buddy, out of ammo?

having 4 front ports doesn't significantly increase the cost, and excluding them only means the want to force people to buy wireless controllers...

having 4 ports doesn't do anything to hamper the people who want to use wireless, it just forcea the hand of people who would rather use wires...

why do you take it personally that someone else wants to use wires, i don't care if other people want wireless, i'm not saying they should remove wireless or not support wireless, why do you hate choice? why do you hate freedom?

Thanks for offering gamers a choice™ Microsoft, you dirty money grubbers.

™ Offering gamers a choice is a registered trademark of that lying bastard, J. Allard.

It was never and is never about giving us "choice". It's about MS maximizing profits.

Yeah, that's what I'm going to end up doing. I'll just cut out a movie with the wife one weekend or something. I'm kinda tight budgeted right now (full-time student, mortgage, car payments, insurance, etc.), so I'm just trying to save a few bucks here and there when I can.

It sucks to have to find a way to afford stuff when launches happen. But you gotta do what you gotta do.
I doubt I will ever buy a wired controller for this thing. Wireless is so nice.

I live in a condominium complex with God only knows how many potentially wireless game controller-interfering devices in the building.

I own two Wave Birds and four wireless PS2 controllers: one old Hori Wireless Anashin 2 and three Logitech Cordless Action Controllers--one in each color. Only once did I have a problem with a wireless controller not working and that was fixed by pressing the frequency button on its wireless receiver.

And I'm impatiently waiting for NubyTech to release wireless PlayStation fighting pads.

Did people miss the post by the dev that said he uses a usb hub to play COD2? If not, you can stop arguing now, I guess. In any case, for those who (like me) occasionally play 4 player games, simply tell your friends to bring their own. I've never bought 4 controllers for any 1 system in my life, yet I've never had an issue with finding people who could lend, borrow, or bring theirs.

Also, I'm curious about the possibility of using old controllers. At some point there is going to have to be some kind of BC for accessories...I can see Capcom coming up with something to support Steel Battalion...maybe????

oh snap! completely missed that...

well, that's some great news.

hope it's not a devkit exclusive feature...

...well that answers my question...

How did the cost issue etc come into this? That's not even what was being discussed... and nowhere did I imply that I took it personally if other people want to use wireless controllers? And again, wtf are you talking about re: choice/freedom? The "freedom" joke I touched upon in my earlier post has nothing to do with either freedom of choice or what he choses to do.

Jesus... you do get worked up easily... Good luck with that problem...

Oh, and yes, I am out of "ammo" you win... :lol

the situation is over... you're the only one still getting worked up... :lol

The demo units used in game shows and in stores have a small USB were the controllers are plugged in. No idea if it's your average USB hub or something special for the unit though, I'll give it a try as soon as I have my debug kit.

So even though this thread is just about wrapped up...

Yes, you can use the USB port in the back as a controller port.
Yes, a normal USB 2.0 hub works.
Yes, you can plug in multiple storage devices to play music from.
Yes, you can use more than 2 wired controllers if you want.

+1 to MS for making it work the way you'd expect it to work. :)
