I recently got a car and though I just changed the speakers to something a bit more potent than what the factory provides, I am still unhappy with the sound quality that I get with this system. Everything sounds good, but the bass is a bit lacking and it's especially noticeable since I listen to a lot of hip-hop and reggaeton.

I really don't even know where to start. I am more interested in sound quality than ear drum busting, earth shaking, booming bass. I'm willing to spend a good amount of cash. Does anyone have any recommendations, or knowledge that they would like to impart..?

wrong buy jl. easily the best subs and amps. id recommend a w7 10 inch its a monster and is very crisp with solid bass. buy a 250/1 or 500/1 to power it. itll be about a grand for both, but worth the money

Just make sure it's big enough so that when you roll down my street, my house's windows vibrate. That's so cool

WTF? What car is it? Please tell me you got the Alti 3.5SE. And look into Alpine or Rockford.

Edit: www.crutchfield.com The only store you really need for this kind of stuff. You're also gonna' need a new amp for the new sub, too.

maybe I should have clarified. I am looking for a complete box, not just the subwoofer. I drive... a small car.

Generally speaking, a larger sub can produce lower frequencies, and at less power consumption than a smaller sub. 12" subs are great. One sub is plenty if you have a good amp. You can overdrive your tweeters and mids with too much power, but with subs you want a lot of power. Make sure you get a good amp.

I went with 2 10 inchers since I wanted clarity in my bass, and bass that's tight and not whoomphy. I don't feed them much power, and they are pretty good. The resonance is making my car fall apart because I listen to real bassy and pounding music.

It was pretty cheap. You can make your own speakers, sure, but I don't think it's worth the time or hassle.

How much did it cost you altogether? I don't want the power but would rather have quality music. (My car would definitely fall apart).

I went with a 12" alpine type E sub for my car, dont make the same mistake I did. Also, make sure you buy an amp to power that sub and make sure your deck has a sub out option. I would recommend getting a nice amp more than anything else, since that'll provide the juice to your sub. For rap and reggae music check this shit out: http://www.cardomain.com/item/JVCCSWG1200 , Warren G made it, so it must be good for that type of music.

Yes, sociable folk with lives and who enjoy the club scene listen to reggaeton. What a shock...

RF P2 10" = $149 each (got 2)
RF P3002 2-Channel Amp = $349

So that's $649 all together, but that's in Canadian dollars.

$522 US, and you can prolly get a deal to get it under $500. Now, it's going to overpower your fronts and rears unless your deck can shoot out some power. Plus, this kind of set up will make your car rattle, because it's not pushing the super deep bass, it's punchy and hard and what I like most is that it hits all the notes perfectly, which is great for jungle, hardcore and dnb. I'm also going to get a capacitor and some dynamats, but I want to move these puppies into another car soon. BTW I'm running at 2000 Civic Sedan.
