If Black Women Said The Stuff White Men Say

She wasn't saying talking about people who are necessarily disrespectful to minorities, women, and queer folk at the same time. Also, you're forgetting that it's very possible for more empowered minorities to be prejudiced toward others (the most openly racist person I've ever met was a racist guy), and for certain people on the LGBT/GSM spectrum to look down on others. Gay people shitting on bi people and binary trans people shitting on nonbinary folk are both major issues.
No I never forgot that. I don't disagree. I really just meant to point out that when you list a spectrum of people like that LGBTQ, Women, and Minorities the only possible group not mentioned is straight whites. I have just noticed this a lot lately.

Well, straight white dudes generally have it best. Look at who makes up Hollywood, Congress, and the world's top businesses. Obviously, straight white guys can have tons and tons of problems, and I think these problems are ignored far too often. But straight white men really don't have to deal with any kind of institutional prejudice, because most people with power are white and straight and male.

Why is it that in these threads anytime ANYTHING is aimed at white males they take personally? No one cares if YOU yourself aren't like that. It's great, and more people should be like you, but at the same time that doesn't mean these issues aren't valid and don't occur.

I know it comes off as a bit harsh and blunt but it had to be said. If I see another thread about institutional racism/priviledge or anything where a minority group discusses their issues and see another "Well I don't do so and so"...

So if it were aimed at another group they wouldn't take it personally?

Don't worry, the scroll wheel on your mouse isn't going to break. If you're not interested, just keep a-scrollin.

Think about how much more effort it took to make several posts in this thread than it would have taken just to move along.
You, like another poster, want to dismiss any question of the value of this video by simply saying "lol don't read it then". That's conversation stifling nonsense, and it's avoiding the issue. If you want an echo chamber, find another board. I'm genuinely curious why the board has reached the point where any sort of commentary on race that exists on the Internet and is agreed with merits a thread, which implicitly grants the source material a level of validity that's not always warranted.

This is some lowest common denominator ish that produces agreement from the same posters and the occasional dope who drops in, makes an offensive post, and gets piled on, and low odds that person learns anything because they're likely to retreat into thinking people who attacked their opinion are the problem and not their opinion in the first place. What does this achieve? It makes the participants happy, I guess. Woo?

Starting threads with this as the basis for discussion isn't promoting a productive discourse and I think that's bad given the importance of the topic. I'm pointing this out to try and improve the discussion, but hey, questioning the thread can be dismissed as just thread shitting amirite?

It really doesn't need to be said since the bold is a strawman. But you're right: no one gives a shit about what straight white males have to say about this stuff. Maybe rightfully so, maybe not. I don't really care anymore, personally. Anyone who's been in more than a few of these threads knows the deal and can predict just about every nuance. You're the one feigning ignorance with your first sentence up there. Gee, maybe they take it personally just like any other group would take it personally, because they're just people too and not some monolith cut out of the CEO/Harvard/Trust Fund cloth. I dunno.

I don't understand why anyone would take it personally unless they've said the shitty things before.

I think you're missing my point. When I say "don't take it personally" I'm saying that when these things are said, it's not targeting you as an individual. When people speak of male privilege it doesn't mean every male has necessarily been successful in life. When they speak of white male privilege, it also doesn't mean that if you've ever experienced discrimination or hardship, it's invalidated.

I only said white male, because I've usually seen this come up in a number of race threads or threads about white male privilege where we'll see posts like "Well, I was poor growing up and so and so". I'm a black male from a middle class family. Just because I haven't had it as hard as others, and haven't experienced much overt racism, doesn't mean it suddenly isn't an issue. It also doesn't mean I haven't been affected by it even if I don't perceive it myself
