If I cut a mole off, what will happen?

Got a mole on the back of my neck that's bothered me for years. If I just like, got nail clippers and cut it off, what would happen?
 
I just remember something about moles being linked to cancer or something, but I can't remember exactly what... maybe a wive's tale?
 
Go for it, the bleeding wont be the end of the world.

I would suggest cleaning your cutting instrument well with some rubbing alcohol and keeping the cut clean afterwards

Edit: Moles can be cancer

I think that only matters if the mole looks abnormal -- then it could be cancerous. Otherwise it's fine.

* Congenital moles - Large moles present at birth are called congenital moles or giant hairy moles. These moles may increase the risk of malignant melanoma, a deadly form of skin cancer.
* Hereditary moles - These moles are about 1/4 inch (6 mm) and irregular in shape and known as atypical (dysplastic) moles. They usually have dark brown centres and lighter, uneven borders. Dysplastic moles have a greater risk of developing malignant melanoma.
 
Burn it off, that's what my gran used to say...

So then cutting it off would be beneficial, or bad?
 
No, it won't be "bad" if it's something that's always been there. If it's a mole you've just recently noticed and it looks abnormal, dark, or large, it could be cancerous.

I had a mole cut off my chest a couple of months ago, and the dermatologist had to numb the area and then cut the skin away. It wasn't painful and there was barely any bleeding, but I wouldn't guarantee the same for your experiment.

Yes, unless it is rather asymmetrical, discolored, or some sort of unexpected growth, it's probably fine. Snipping it off isn't a good idea, though. It would likely heal itself, anyway. I accidentally cut one on my face on occasion, and it always comes back as it was.

It'll likely grow back unless you remove it all.
 
It's been there forever... I have one down by my sack too... I have this theory that they're connected somehow, like I could pull on one and make the other disappear or something.
 
What the hell is the evolutionary purpose of them anyway?
 
I actually asked my GP about this the other day as ive got a few that i plan on getting rid of as you know... they are useless and ugly.

If the mole is raised above the skin, you can either have it:

1) Burnt (he said burnt, some say frozen?) off, where they destroy the motherfucker.
2) Shaved off, where they preserve the actual mole for testing.

If the mole is not raised above the skin, it needs to be cut out, which will result in stitches, and most likely a scar to some degree.
 
I had a mole removed recently just cause it was on my waist line, and was bothering me. All they did was give me a shot, and then shave it off with a razor blade.

How bad is the scar?
 
Ignore it, it'll bleed like a bitch.




I have a small one above my upper lip (Cindy Crawford like) and cut a piece off with a cheap razor. (couldn't find the regular one) - that shit bled for like 30 minutes.


Now, if you look really close. you can see a piece missing, the middle piece to be exact. So now it looks like a ring basically. Which sucks since I like having one in that place. But only people who know it look for it so it isn't that much of a problem
 
I have a mole/birth mark on my left bicep. I give it a haircut every now and then. I've been thinking about getting it removed sometime. I had a friend who had a similar one, but much larger. He had it removed and now has a large scar on his arm. Decisions, decisions...
 
Probably bleed alot.

I have alot of moles, and had some taken off when I was a kid. I had a couple of fairly large one's cut off my legs when I was in HS or so, done under local, and a few stitches. It was basically to test them for skin cancer. Unfortunately, on the day I had the stitches out, I went out and shot hoops, and one of them open up, now I have about an 1 inch around scar. But even the one that didn't open up left a decent sized scar. I had a couple on my neck that used to bug me when I was even younger, I had them burned off, just left a small scar. But having said all this, my Dad was a doctor, and it was just going down to his office to have it done, no big deal.

Cutting and burning them off are about your only options really. If they are small enough, burning is proably better because it won't bleed.
