If Nintendo really wanted to sell DS...

They would take advantage of classic PC games that require point-and-click gameplay.

Im talking about games like this....

Not this...

Nintendo is already the king of rehashes... let's use the DS to it's full potential. Leave no gamer behind!

I would kill for some good ol Sierra and Lucas Arts adventure games on the DS. KILL! Also, if they got StarCraft on it, the game would sell like 3 or 4 million copies in South Korea alone.

Point and click adventure games are dead, man. Wouldn't sell. I might buy them though. I still play those games. Great fun.

Absolutely. The DS is perfect for point and click adventure games and strategy titles.

Strategy titles (real time) in particular is a big area which needs to be exploited as it's always been so weak on consoles, there's probably a large market out there of non-PC gamers who have never played these titles.

Maybe not, but lord they have to be cheap. Here's your chance publishers... pick up the license for peanuts and port it for an easy buck.

I WOULD TOO. Classic Sierra rocked.

I agree. DS is already showing better uses of the touch pad than that.

b...bu....but you said 'If Nintendo really wanted to sell".
Now you're in favor of my theory that they wouldn't make a dent.

I don't understand the flip-flopping, jedimike.

Get a Palm device or Pocket PC and you're good to go with old school point and click games. (Not to mention NES, Master System, Turbo Graphx 16, SNES, and Genesis games to name some more) I'm playing Monkey Island 2 right now on my Zodiac 2. :)

okay.. I wasn't thinking touch screen - stylus.. now I remember. Fuck yeah. All these games should make a resurgence and hopefully do REALLY well on the DS - that way; hopefully the genre will / can be revived.

Something like StarCraft might be fun... but it seems like it would be a bit hard to see details playing on the two 256x192 screens, as opposed to the PC's 640x480. Or the details would be easy, but with a much smaller view.

I would buy any and all point-and-click adventure games that the DS receives. Instantly.

Someone port those suckers or make new ones!

Good god, I never made a link between old-skool adventure games and the DS. That would ROCK!!

I agree. I've been thinking that I wouldn't be caught dead with a DS, but if they started making games like RTSes and point n' click adventure games, I'd actually be really excited about buying one.

The screen size thing wouldn't be a problem. You just have to set it up so that one screen is always showing the full map (or a large amount of it) and the other is zommed in closer so you can check details.

We know you can switch the screens on the fly no problem, so you could press a button or tap a symbol on screen and bring the larger map or the more detailed one to the touchscreen, depending on which one you want to manipulate, and still see the other above.

Same here. "Another" has me mighty interested.

Someone port those suckers or make new ones!
Don't waste the hope on that now. Just buy Pocket PC and play the originals on the go in all their glory. I'm just replaying Beneath the Steel Sky :)

Mama Smurf: Map, inventory. Maybe even enlarged animated faces for the dialog, kinda like some RPG's have.

RTS can have a really innovative control scheme. Make it so that buildings and such can only produce let's say 5 units each. Put those on the D-pad and shoulder button. Move the units with the stylus. This took me litterally 7 seconds, people who are working on a game can surely think of something better with the time given to them

When western devs start exploring the DS more (right now its pretty much only UBI and EA..) im pretty sure we'll see more RTS and adventure games on DS.

I think a .hack//SIGN kind of thing with the ability to go back to your desktop would be interesting; mousepad on the bottom screen and the computer desktop on the top and use that for whatever purpose.

Individual point and click adventures might not sell well, but a collection of them would probably do all right.

I would actually buy a DS if we got some sweet point and click games on it!

Me too... on launch day nonetheless. Mario 64 just isn't doing it for me... and I consider Mario 64 to be one of the top 5 games of all time. I just don't think DS is an adequate 3D solution. However, the classic adventure games and strategy games seem like a perfect fit.

Who was it that was complaining that the DS was already nothing but old games?

Personally I'd LOVE to see some old PC games on the DS.
X-Com, anyone?

another post of agreement... now that we finalyl have point and click on the consoles, let's get some point and click gameplay going..

it doesn't need to be ports or remakes, though I would probably buy those also.

The only problem with porting the older point and click games might be fitting all the voice in. Seeing as you could get RE with everything intact on an N64 cartridge, I'm sure it's possible, but whether developers want to mess around compressing things or not is another matter.

Maybe they wouldn't even need to do that, perhaps some titles would just fit, but I'm not sure we'd see compilations due to size issues.

This just in.... adventure games are still dead. That is all.

I am sure LA and VU could make those adventure games, but I think they want to actually make money.

there is already one adventure game coming out at launch, or near launch: Another

im really hoping the DS revives this genre.

I agree. I always thought this would be the perfect handheld for RTS games like StarCraft, or point and click adventures. In fact, I think companies like The Adventure Company would do well to take note of the DS. It could help revive interest in a dying genre.

I've been asking for this lately

totaly agree with you Jedi

but I don't no who is stopping this from happening.. Nintendo or the developers?
