7.0 Presentation
Rare's latest keeps with the Banjo Kazooie style, but the menu structure seems somewhat rigid and uncreative for a universe with so much cartoony flair.
8.0 Graphics
The game's Mode 7 style isn't much more than what's been seen already on the GBA, but the Rare team pull it off extremely well.
8.0 Sound
The soundtrack definitely fits the Banjo universe. Tunes are well composed, even though they sound too familiar to songs from other games and movies. Aladdin, anyone?
8.5 Gameplay
Very solid racing action that gets tougher as the player gets better. It's a little hard to see with the character vehicle in the way, but other than that, the game drives well.
8.5 Lasting Appeal
Lots of replay value in the single player mode with the Time Trial and Jiggy Challenges, and multiple people can take flight in battle modes.
8.0 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)
8.5 Reader Average

This is definitely one to consider getting down the road.. for me, anyways. I have far too many other games right now, but if I see this one even remotely cheap.. it's mine.. :) I'm a huge fan of Rare, and Banjo rocks, what else can I say? :D

I saw this game at Futureshop for $29.99 CDN so it must have been a $19.99 game stateside.

It was gone today. But I bought Minish Cap. Wow. Great throwback to LTTP.

RARE IS BACK.

Rare really didn't leave for me. Perfect Dark and GoldenEye still rock, till this day. Go back and play Perfect Dark again.. and be astounded at the sheer amount of modes and stuff you can do in that game.. most of the stuff really isn't even current FPS games either. Or if it is, it's not all in ONE FPS game like PD. That I can think of anyways. :D

I'm kinda interested in this just because I liked Diddy Kong Racing quite a bit, but honestly... Has a good kartish-flying-racing game ever been made? Is it even possible, or are they inherently unfun? I feel like I've tried them all (Bravo Air Race/Air Race Championship, Freaky Flyers, Bug Riders, the unfun flying tracks in Diddy Kong, you name it!) and they've all sucked, simply because the concept doesn't really work. The y-axis ensures little to no direct contact with other flyers so combat is usually limited to cheap homing missiles, and the lack of traction completely removes the cornering/sliding element that makes kart games so fun.

I'll probably buy this just to see how it turned out, but I'm not feeling too hopeful right now. Can anyone think of an example of flying-racing done well?

I was skeptical too, but Banjo Pilot is actually a nice diversion. It's not incredible or anything but it's pretty fun. And IIRC, you actually do come into direct combat with the flyers more often than you think. Especially in Jangle's Challenges, because you're trying to go after the honey combs and the challenger is almost always trying to fly in your way it seems. Also because your plane is actually much bigger than you think, you have a much better chance of hitting pilots unless you get really good at it.

But, I thought the flying tracks in Diddy Kong were also fun so maybe we'll just always have divergent opinions on that aspect. I do agree with you that Bravo Air/Air Race, Freaky Flyers and Bug Riders all sucked though.
