The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

IGNcube said:
Once again, The Twilight Princess seems like the only logical choice. When players first rode Epona through the fields of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, it was hard to image a Zelda experience that could top it. Even sailing through beautifully animated seas of The Wind Waker didn't match it. Now with The Twilight Princess, players will once more mount steeds and gallop through Hyrule. To call this game epic would be an understatement. Director Eiji Aonuma has said on record that the goal with Twilight Princess is to make a game that is wholly better than the masterpiece Ocarina of Time. No easy task, to be sure, but based on what we've seen so far, the game is on the right track.

Twilight Princess delivers gamers a world that is several times bigger and more beautiful than any Hyrule before it. Plus, the title boasts new mechanics, such as battles on horseback and Link's ability to turn into a wolf. The only thing that kept us from voting Zelda as our overall Game of the Show was the fact that many of the new elements show in the official E3 trailer were sadly not playable in the show-floor demo. Had they been, we expect that Zelda would have dominated the awards. Still, as it stands, The Twilight Princess is clearly the game to beat.

how about Killer7 for best Adventure game? Isn't Zelda an adventure game now? :lol I also wonder where IGN got that october releasedate from on Zelda. If it's just a placeholder, why bother writing it...

They had to spread the awards around...........it wouldn't be nice if LoD won in every category :lol

i dont even know anymore

eh.. the list doesn't exactly spark my interest. Too bad Collossus didn't win anything. I have high hopes for that, Zelda, Conker, and FFXII on this gen. There's some other titles that may be good but I don't know how good. Those titles meanwhile should be good, no exceptions.

You are aware that this is IGN Cube's list?

Nintendo is advertising Killer 7 up here in Canada, pretty surprising. I don't see this game selling much. I saw an ad for it that also included RE4 and Splinter Cell.

Wait, is Killer 7 actually fun.

I lost interest when I found out it was a rail-shooter (or something like that).

But then again, RE4 was kind of linear too...the movement in that game was mostly through narrow hallways and stuff...hm...

Ahh but what do I know, I wasn't there. It seems like a solid list however.

No Genji at all? Makes me sad. :(
I'm convinced it will at least be a sleeper hit once it's out. Mark my words!

Actually decent picks. Still amazed that they can't fully admit a lot of what was shown at the Sony Press Conference was just CG, but who cares anymore. Damage done in favor of Sony last week. I like their pick of Fight Night as I believe that was real and it did look impressive.

It wasn't that great on the floor. Crappy displays, poor framerate, etc. Not surprised it didn't make the list.

but IGN never mentioned that, their impressions says the game was awesome, and more improved than ever :(

Sony please cancel the PS2 version , PS3 is the perfect console for this game :(

Do you want another Wallguy cameo? I didn't think so. After seeing what Rare has done with PD0 I think transferring a game originally built for one console to its successor is a bad idea.

Well its worth remembering that ICO was once a PSone game but got moved to the PS2 instead.

I know but maybe it could have been much better if develpment started originally on a PS2 kit :P :D BTW did it get transferred late or quite early?

The EA booth was weird. Most people get pretty damn creative. EA's booth was all black and divided into a couple sections. Each section would have a few kiosks along a wall, and a giant poster of the game that was playing in each kiosk. Regular games left, sports right, and next gen in the center. The center had a 360 degree projecting video. Technically impressive, but pretty uncreative compared to a lot of the other booths. No decorations, extremely spartan. Lots of guys in suits giving you dirty looks. The coolest thing was a collage of a couple hundred of their old games.. and this was hidden on some back wall in an alley behind their booth (and it was missing a lot of great games).

Stuff about Black:

It's the pop. It's the rush. Blackis the sort of game that focuses specifically on perfecting the absolute fundamentals of the first-person shooting genre. It assumes that people got into shooters originally because shooting things was fun, and so the actual shooting is what's being worked on here.

Don't expect puzzles. Don't expect stealth. Don't expect mini-games of any sort. Blackis about a man, his weapons, and the horrifying things they do to people and places. Wrap your head around this concept and understand that when you play Black you'll likely be experiencing the closest recreation of stylized Hollywood action possible on PlayStation 2.

Given Criterion's track record of having an intimate familiarity with all things pretty -- which includes a few superbly detailed games based off their own Renderware middleware solution (now used to power no less than one out of every four videogames in development) -- we assumed that the new Black FPS would be properly gorgeous. Well, we assumed correctly.

Perhaps the most striking feature of Black, beyond its abundance of methodically laid out sets of utter destructibility, is the way each and every advanced particle effect adds volume to the game's already detailed environments. Bullets pock walls, shatter wood and leave metal tingling with glittering droplets of fire. Smoke, too, will waft over the obliterated surfaces of an embattled European city and will fill the world with thick and rich depth. And then a building will suddenly explode from the inside out, sending razor sharp shards of glass chaotically sailing through the air, trailed closely by fire and ash.

This beast is loud, scary, and it will rupture your eardrums and murder old folks if you provide it with enough pre-amped audio power to do so. Black is the PS2 sound terminator. But beyond its mind-altering aural gun-porn there exists a level of subtle clarity virtually unheard of in this current generation of gaming.

After the heart racing muzzle flashes fade and the crackling debris of a hundred broken bricks quiet, the muffled silence of a post-battle city street will roll over the land with a slightly fuzzy ring. Through plumes of softly swirling smoke and crinkling ground, there will eventually echo a faint murmur of life from around the corner and down the way. Someone is still alive. Someone still needs to be killed.

Soon the violent song and dance will begin again. Soon burning lead will rattle through perfect rifle barrels and speeding bullets will clang against steel, crash into concrete and thud into flesh. They will break and tear their way through life with every second of their journey blasting out through speakers.

It's going to fucking own, to the point where I'm about ready to say FU to next-gen for a long time. If I can still get games like Okami, SoC, Burnout and Black I can wait.

Oh and the Xbox list is fucking shameful, horrid.

I know I was just being picky over the wording. IGN is not taking into account anything that was pre-rendered and only handing out awards to realtime gameplay although I wondered what they thought about those titles.

Thanks man for the writeup, that answered my question perfectly!
