IGN: How CD Projekt Red Got Cyberpunk 2077 Running on Switch 2

If Steam Deck figured it out I wouldn't be so quick to say we won't have it ever.
There's an issue in the Linux gaming community regarding VRR and HDR, we can only have 422 HDR and it some people have bypassed that limitation with DisplayPort to HDMI cables, but cannot get VRR out of them with HDR, so we're stuck with 422 HDR with VRR out 444 HDR without it, it seems like converting DisplayPort to HDMI is very conflicting and not even the best cable developers can make it work without some compromise. My assumption is that Nintendo had to choose between those two and opted for the one what had more noticeable impact, maybe they'll fix it or maybe they won't, who knows...

because it run with n64 image quality

Could have N64, Atari or oscilloscope IQ, still has better performance (and graphics settings... and price.) 🤷‍♂️

Huh? Doesn't Switch 2 screen support both HDR and VRR?

I was referring to Steam Deck figuring out how to get VRR support through their dock onto a TV screen.

Edit: Or are you saying there is an issue with getting both HDR and VRR through HDMI onto a TV/Monitor..?

Yes, internally and it's using DisplayPort as an internal interface to connect the GPU with the screen iirc, basically every handheld PC does the same, Steam Deck took a while to have VRR on docked and as I read somewhere it's still not perfect, they have to convert DisplayPort to HDMI and on top of that Nintendo has to go through USB between both, I can see how that may be an issue, I have no much problems with that because their games tend to have great performance anyway, and in general consoles cap games frame rate.

I'd have a problem on my PC tho, since we play with unlocked frame rate all the time, if I couldn't enable VRR, I'm currently gaming on Linux and can tell you yes, it's problematic, I even had to solve and weird issue with my Samsung TV on Windows because it wouldn't enable HDR properly if Freesync was enabled on my AMD GPU (Nvidia seems not to have this issue, Samsung used Nvidia only for the tests).

So let's hope they figure out a solution later, as of now, it's pretty clear everyone has a problem with VRR over HDMI whenever HDR is present, Sony and Valve did too.

*Switch 2 is more capable than they expected (Impressed with the hardware)
*Confirmation that just 1 CPU core is reserved for the system (Not 2 cores as previous leak stated)
*40 fps mode is available in docked mode (VRR in docked mode is matter of time?)
*Mechanical hard drive + less ram was the biggest limiting factor in the old gen machines.
*Changes to the engine to support ARM architecture.
*MicroSD is fast (Not an issue)
*Best handheld version
*Not powerful as an 5090 (IGN)

Good summary. lol at the ign 5090 part.

Wondering about the cpu cores…I interpreted it as it could still have 2 cores reserved and only 6 available for games

Another thing the team had to contend with was that the Switch 2 has fewer computational cores available than any other platform Cyberpunk has been built for, including previous generation consoles. "We have at least one core we share with the OS [operating system]," Tremblay reveals. That narrowing of resources means that where once there was core space available to enhance performance, that space now has to be used for activities such as decompression or IO operation. "This was one of the struggles we had, but otherwise I think it was surprisingly fast to get the game running on the platform. We were all super impressed."

I don't know if that's the authors own opinion or not. How many cpu cores did ps4 and Xbox one have available? I thought it was 7 available for games for those. If switch 2 had 7 available for games, then the statement of "fewer cores available including than prior generation" doesn't make sense. It would read "it has the same available". So if there are only 6 cores available that statement still makes sense

I wonder how much it matters though with optimization. Core per core A78C is much better than Jaguar.

I think that the IGN made the question based on the information that was available at that point (DF based) but the CDPR guy made the clarification. Looks like the Switch 2 has 1 CPU Core for the system but the devs still have access to use it (For some tasks), so is shared like the guy explained. DF stated that the Switch 2 have 2 CPU cores exclusively for the system… Maybe the Nintendo upgraded the SDK. Also, according to Google the PS4 have 7 cores dedicated to games (Looks like is the same for the current gen, 1 core dedicated to the system). So is basically the same situation.

It wasn't tho, the game running 99% of the time at 30 basically locked then suddenly dipping some frames due to the use of ultra hand or any other skill doesn't make the game sub-30, it's 30 with dips, that's it
30 with dips should be something like 29,99999999999999999999999999999999 fps average, so sub-30.

I guess in your head anything is possible
What's impossibru however is a well articulated sentence. Is it a spiel? Is this near-constant brainrot? Does it perform better when Gigabowser is docked or when he is handheld?

I don't know. But i also don't want to know.
