[IGN/NX] Cyberpunk 1.2 Console Performance Review

Is it gonna come out this year tho? I'm only gonna play this game once, and I'm stuck in a paradox of the longer I wait the better the game becomes, but the longer I wait, the less impressive the overall product is (in comparison to newer next gen games)
I never answered but yes, it will come out this year. My guess is that it will arives at the tail end of 2021 though (November or December) so there is still some waiting to be done.

For anyone who cares, version 1.22 on a Base PS4 actually makes the game playable.

Started a new game last night, Streetkid route. Graphics and visuals overall look infinitely better than what we've seen before. Just texture loading and other weird things still occurring from time to time.

For the most part though I found myself actually enjoying the game and the atmosphere was actually able to shine. Still strikes me as nothing special in terms of gameplay so far, and the vehicle controls are still laughably bad but as a whole, it's nice to actually play the game and not be distracted by all the jank.

Framerate was definitely dipping but nothing too jarring, at least to me.
As someone who enjoys the driving in Cyberpunk, do you usually press the R2 button all the way down? In 2077 the car is designed to respond to the slightest pressure to R2, so if you want to make turns and stroll around town like a boss you need to handle the trigger gently.

I do hold it all the way down. I'll keep that in mind next time I play, thanks for tossing it out there.

If consoles had better cpus it would run fine

They removed it from store and it wasn't because of bugs etc.

Yes, but if CDPR didn't do that game would most likely still be on PSN. Bad performance was never some major red flag for Sony before.
I assume that the quantity of game breaking bugs is a factor (however I pointed out before that the other big open world games have suffered from similar issues... It just seems that in this time there was more game breaking issues and a lot of lies in regards to how it would work on the base consoles... But fallout 76 seemed pretty bad as well and nothing happened as far as I know).

So maybe it's a case of mob outrage.

FOMO is a bitch. I was reading some Disco Elysium stuff on Reddit about all those game breaking bugs on PlayStation (it's at 1.07 now) thinking to myself "I'll pick it up in a few months".

Releasing broken games and laughing all the way to the bank. Thinking objectively for a minute I can't blame the publishers.

Nope.
It is not on PS Store.

Maybe when it got fixed.
Yes, exactly.
It's available from the capable storefronts (Steam, GOG, Microsoft Store).
The store that cannot even implement a proper refund system (Sony Store) currently doesn't offer the game and probably never will.

That means nothing.
It is not available to buy in PS Store and the right thing do to.

Make a game playable first after ask to be published again.

Instead to blame the cause (the poor game) you try to spin as a store fault lol

Please put a summary in the OP.

Sony HATES refunds and having to give them, it has to be something deep in their investment part of having money flow out after they've received it, they have the worst policy on the PSN than even Nintendo at least in NA.

It's pretty amazing that this game is still having issues running on dead gen consoles.

The thing is, every patch the devs think the game is playable on the old machines, but it seems every patch is worse or only slightly better, but not good enough for normies its to play and enjoy, not everyone is sensitive(read gives a fuck) about a few frame drops, but the state this game is, still in after all these perceived fixes(at least from the devs POV) is pretty amazing.

I wonder if they'll ever be able to fix performance?

You know as well as the rest of us that this was in response to CDPR telling everyone to go get refunds and has nothing to do with "doing the right thing".

Even some detractors have come around after v1.22...

I wager the game is as good as it is gonna get performance-wise on base Xbox One and PS4. Up to 30FPS with dips to 20 during intense firefights. Stability and bugs are the fields left for improvement.

Bugs are a matter of time, stability is a matter of troubleshooting skills.

I've had 2 crashes in 1.2 and 1 crash so far in 1.22 after an intense 7 hour play session. Given I've already played for over 100 hours since 1.2 hit, that's nearly nothing. Watch Dogs Legion crashed more than this during my time with it.

You continue spinning the root cause lol
CDPR launched a broken game.

That is good... let's wait the game back to store.

Dead gen consoles? Really?

I beat the game on Xbox One X prior to patch 1.2 and then put another 20 hours into it on Xbox Series X. I'm an "old school" gamer that remembers when titles launched in even worse states. This game was far more than playable to me.

At certain times while the vehicle is driven the FPS is drastically reduced to 21FPS on Xbox One X and PS4, this definitely proves that this game should never have been released for the previous generation.

I think that is silly. The game obviously could have used more time in development before release, as evidenced by the massive improvements from launch until now on base hardware and their pro counterparts. The game is far more than playable on base hardware today, and is only going to get better.

It has also come out with a hugee visual upgrade since the launch version

Like seriously, I purchased this game on base PS4 at launch, I know how fucking awful it used to look on bsse consoles, and now it has come a long way visual wise. It looks wayyyy better than at launch; lightning, particles, textures resolution, shaders, anti-aliasing solution, SSR, animations, etc. I dare to say it is one of the most visually striking open-world experience on base consoles right now.

The screenshot for that thumbnail the launch version looks better. They turned up the sharpness filter on that current version and it at least on that screenshot it looks like crap.

Yeah well it is just the thumbnail screenshot ! As soon as you start playing the video you'll see that the improvement is enormous, just got to see the passage in flying car over the city (even though I think they downgraded the lightning a little bit and maybe increased pop in, but still the actual version is miles better).

Wow, big improvements, but ill wait with replaying till we get some cool DLC or i will buy PS5. Happy RED is getting their act together, still in retrospect Red has changed the way i buy games, after cyberpunk I probably buy less day one games in the future...

Yeah this definitely looks like huge improvement on base consoles.

Not that i know how shit it looked, i played it on PC and got almost no bugs and only dozen or so graphical glitches. Game is still the best looking games on market bar none.

Wasn't IGN one of the outlets that completely failed to warn anyone of the technical issues? If so, what is this patch supposed to fix? It was perfect at launch, no?
