There you have it

---

The peripheral communicates wirelessly using Bluetooth technology with a motion sensor bar placed on or near a television to provide gamers with full control freedom within a virtual 3D box

Bluetooth, did I miss this?

but the latter is much more likely, particularly since the free-hand-style pointer rumbles and will also power any add-ons, such as Nintendo's officially announced "nunchuck unit."

So it officially rumbles, not sure if I missed this too

I think they may just be moving old articles from IGNCube over to the new channel... but the dates are new.

- btw, do you think the nun-chuck attachment may have its own rumble? It wouldn't mean much to have only your right hand feel the rumbe when using the attachement.

I must admit as disappointed as I am with the specs, I want... no, not I want. I NEED to try that controller.

I must say, Matt and the rest of the guys at IGN have done a great job with IGN's Revolution channel. In terms of information and features on the Revolution, they have every site and gaming magazine beat pretty easily; he's gotten more information in the last few weeks than most sites have gotten in months. Props to you, Matt lol.

Today, they put up a feature on the Revolution where you can play around with it with your mouse. Interesting, but I could do that with my own remote too lol. But what really interested me today was the mailbag...

Q: I hope you don't mind me asking you this question about your recent revelation of the Revolution specs. I was just wondering why you think these developers have leaked this information at this time? If Nintendo are waiting until E3 to unveil the full console as it will be why would they let some developers leak vital information on the system. It's just a general wonderment. Anyway, thanks for the New Revolution section - great stuff!

Matt responds: I don't think you have a clear understanding of how information is "leaked." It's not as though Nintendo recently called up third parties developing Revolution software and said: "Now's the time, guys. Go! Go! Go!" I'm quite certain that Nintendo would prefer that specs for its new hardware were never released to the public forum. Thankfully, we have our sources and they are happy to bend some rules in order to get the news out there.

The reason you're seeing this news now rather than sooner (or later) is because workable Revolution development kits went out to various third parties only last week. Now that studios have had some time with the incomplete, but still very telling hardware, they are starting to spill the beans to us. I imagine that as time passes, you're going to see more and more outlets backing up our articles with reports of their own. We're well past the speculation stage.

Very interesting. According to some of his sources yesterday, many developers had already been running experiments with the system and its controller especially, and had just gotten into deciding what will work on the system. On this front, things sound pretty good.

If the system does indeed have a Thanksgiving 2006 launch date, developers will have a lot of time to work on their games. And of course, I'm sure Nintendo themselves have been working on software for much longer.

Bluetooth, wasn't that developed my microsoft?

Nope, originally it was developed by Ericsson. They then pulled the plug and a host of others companies continued on with it (Agere IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia and Toshiba. There may be more now, not sure).

Wow, the controller really is tiny. 5.2" in length? My hand is practically 3 inches longer. At that size, it certainly won't cause much fatigue.

Never payed attention to the labels on the buttons before. I see there s a HOME button. An 'xbox guide' is prob one of the best 'new' features at the advent of next gen. I am glad I donot have to get up to change games. Now if only a console maker would incorporate a 50 Disc changer into thier console. :lol

I thought it was announced in the TGS announcement that The Rev controller uses Bluetooth.

Nah, it was from some interview with Jim Merrick. The thing is, it probably uses bluetooth just for the communication between the controlller and the console, and IR for motion tracking.

"Japanese controllers so small"

The biggest issue i have with these articles is the fact Matt Casamassina is the editor in chief of the rev channel. Can't they get someone a little more optimistic? I mean, ffs, time for a change i say.

I think it's best if editorial for Revolution.ign.com isn't staffed by blind cheerleaders. God knows it's bad enough with the Xbox channel.

I'll do it.

At this point, has Matt as lead IGN Nintendo guy been paired with more people than Elizabeth Taylor has married?

I'll never understan the Matt hate. Why should he have to agree and support every move that Nintendo does? He's one of the very few editors at IGN that actually seem to have a unique opinion about things.

When I read the spec articles I get the message "it is baaad....haha...it is even worse than we expected".

When I read the specs I would say they might sound bad when it comes to raw power, but they dont actually say much about what the games will look like.

Hardcore gamers are probably laughing, but I play PC games with a 6600 non GT. I play HL2 at full settings, just not at 1600x1200 4xAA but at 800x600. That needs only a fraction of the fillrate and raw power, but it still looks absolutely great. Games like AOE3 with Shader 3.0 support even look better than on faster shader 2.0 only ATI boards.

Same goes for Rev vs. 360/PS3. Nintendo needs only a third of the fillrate because of using 480p. Games sure wont look as defined as PS3/xbox games but they will look spectacular anyway. Reduce the texture resolution of the games by factor 2 and you'll save factor 4 in memory and a good amount of raw power too.

And whatever the specs are, we will still get the best Zelda, Metroid, Mario, SSBM etc. and you are in for a disappointment if oyu believe they wont look awesome. I'll choose 3 times better looking Chozo Ruins over PDZ anytime. The specs floating around combined in a brilliant architecture used to the fullest with all the shaders avalaible will easily look as good or better than any first gen 360 game...just not as defined.

Third party games will sell if they use the controller. Ports will probably look worst on GC and will only sell to Rev only users, but I am pretty positive that porting them will be easy just by reducing (texture) resolution but leaving geometry and most effects intact.

But Matt just leaves it to the haters and drama queens to decide how inferior the Rev hardware is...and btw. I still dont believe in this to be the final specs.

He is pretty optimistic, he's said repeatedly that he is very excited about Revolution, it sounds more like you're disappointed that he's not saying that these specs will provide graphics rivalling XBox 360.

Didn't see your editing; It only makes sense don't you think? Having rumble in just the revmote would be rather silly.

Bluetooth is a IEEE 802.15

Shit was meant only for mobile phones to connect to comupters, but it was expanded, and now it acts like WiFi.

Ah you made the shotgun revmote mockup too right?

yeah, that one was kinda embarrassing actually...heh...I literally only had a few hours to think about it and come up with something.

Firefox 1.5 won't load that applet, so it must not be worthy of my attention.

If you have Adblock installed, disable it.

not just mobile phones. but pdas, and other electronic devices.. i worked on an e-mail program for pdas before there were any bluetooth devices available to consumers.

WiFi is used for networking not connection peripherals.

it WAS developed by Ericsson, but since it's been widly accepted as a way to connect peripherals to the computer that requires low bandwidth, and medium range (e.g. Mouse and Keyboard)

Just to be clear, I don't mind small controllers. I prefer them that way, actually.

Yep, I have big hands and long fingers, but I prefer smaller controllers like the Gamecube and 360 pads. I hated the "Duke" controller. It was so cumbersome.

actually, i've been too lazy to read much about the specs as i dont really care about them atm. I own all current gen consoles and plan to own all three next gen at launch (even though im still waiting for my 360).
I'm just saying i think that the nintendo side of ign could really do with a change in head editor. Sure, editors need balance (ie: not a fanboy) when it comes to opinions and editorials, but i think he's scarred and bitter and it comes through in some of his articles.
