IGN reviews Mega Man X8

7.3

"If you loved Mega Man X7 and thought it was one of the best action games of last year then Mega Man X8 will probably grant you eternal life. But since it's a safe bet that there weren't too many X7 fans to begin with, then a more realistic reaction is that X8 is definitely worth a weekend or two. At the very least it's a substantial improvement over 2003's version and has some truly awesome stages in the short amount of time it lasts. But as fun and clever as some of these stages and enemies may be, they're still pretty limited in scope and replayablity because of their aging design. If you're like me and don't mind that kind of old-school gameplay, though, then Mega Man X8 is definitely worth a quick look."

Hey, an improvement on crap still sounds pretty good! Anyway, it's probably better than x5, x6 and x7, right? RIGHT????? :) I'll give it a chance. The boxart I voted for is the one they used! :D

link! And i just saw some GI movies for it. Dub was okay until I heard Zero's voice, Axl doesn't sound gay, Burner Rooster is pathetic. :/ Somehow I'm feeling it's like X6. We'll see.

Don't forget the multiple versions of some of those Battle Network games.

eh, then I should count mega man 64, which was a port of mega man legends. :)

really though, the multiple versions of battle network are about as much seperate games as the pokemon are, so i didn't mention 'em as seperate releases.

Definite buy since MMX8 goes back to it's 2D playable roots. And there's no way in hell it can be worse than the shitastic MMX7.

You forgot Wily Wars for the Genesis and Game Gear.

As for Battle Network, a complete list would be:
1
2
3 Blue
3 White
3 Black
4 Red Sun
4 Blue Moon
4.5 Real Operation
5 Team of Blues
5 Team of Colonel
Battlechip Challenge
Network Transmission

For the hell of it, don't forgot the PC versions of MML1, X1-X4 (Were X5+ on the PC?), X3 on the Playstation and Saturn, MM8 on the Saturn, and the atrocious PC versions of MM1 and 3.

On top of that, don't forget the Rockman Complete Works on the PS1 for MM1-6 as well.

Plus cameos in:
MvC2
Pocket Fighter
Mighty Final Fight
SFA3
MSHvSF
Cardfighter Clash: CvS
Power Stone 2
Gunbird 2

Awesome. I love X7 and I loved the demo for X8. I can't wait. I'm looking forward to that eternal life.

Capcom should have left Mega Man X end which it was supposed to originally. That was X5, right?

Sort of. X4 finishes up with X and Zero defeating the Reploid Army. X5 leads up with Zero taking the rocket into the station coming toward the Earth. Depending on how you do, Zero may die or not. Then, after you defeat Sigma, you're walking away and X gets his ass blasted right through his heart and Zero sacrifices himself or some crap. Either way, everybody's fuxored to THE EXTREME!!!!!111one
X6 starts off with you as X and you have Zero's sword. Turns out Zero was in hiding and now he has a new (SHITTY) Z-sabre knock-off (THAT SUCKS). Haven't beat X6 yet, I'm trying to rescue all the dumbass people. So, yeah, X5 seemed to be some sad conclusion if it didn't work out, but I guess they sell enough to warrant new titles.
X4 was my favorite. X5 was too easy and X6 is a bit difficult.

I don't know what you people expect anymore. The Megaman Zero games kick all sorts of ass and more than make up for X7.

Yeah. According to Keiji Inafune (Mega Man's creator), X5 was supposed to be the last X game. Zero's death was supposed to link into the Mega Man Zero series.

It turns out Capcom decided to go ahead and extend the X series without Inafune's involvement while he was busy working on the Battle Network games.

That said, X8 is surprisingly non-crappy (unlike the more recent X entries).

Ok, EGM gave it 6.5, 6.5, and......0.0??????

"This is the first Mega Man X game worth buying in years. I'm happy to report that the developers have thrown out just about every rotten idea that made X7 so awful. X8 hews much closer to the original formula, but still has a few new touches and clever ideas. The three characters are nice and different, too. Although it's quite short, X8 encourages replay—I even got that old-tyme action game Zen going. Hell, X8 is even good enough to appeal to people who don't write naughty X/Zero fan fiction."

what the heck did he actually give it? He liked it!

Not to derail, but everyone with a passing interest in Mega Man games and a GBA should run out and get Mega Man Zero 3. It's the best thing since sliced bread.

I had a Mega Man game for the PC, with only three robot bosses. Volt Man, Sonic Man, and I can't remember the third.

Nice to hear X8 is decent.

Awesome. I love X7...
Whatever you're smokin', can you send me some? There's a bunch of games I wish I enjoyed more (X7, included).

It is good to hear that X8 is at least alright though. I was afraid lightning would strike twice and we'd have a double-dose of turd.

Anyone else feel that maybe Capcom should start limiting MM sequels to handhelds?

If only Clover studios and Kamiya got hold of this game then maybe we would see some meaningful new additions to the series while remaing true to franchise.

Well, it has to do with R&D division. The GBA Battle Network and Zero games being handled by Studio 2 are excellent, meanwhile Studio 3's X games on PS2/GC are pretty crap. Studio 3 is pretty crap in general actually... I'm starting to think Dragon Quarter was a fluke.

I feel old considering I remember when Mega Man X came out, and I'm only 18.
Heh, I rented Mega Man X several times before my parents actually bought me a copy.

Nah, Capcom just needs to give the X series a rest and either make a console Zero game or a sequel to Network Transmission.

It's been FAR too long since a game featuring the original Mega Man game came out...a cel shaded Mega Man game using the Viewtiful Joe engine would be PERFECT.

i can remember when mega man 1 came out. :/ :/ :/

i can also remember thinking they were overdoing the sequels a bit when nintendo power did a feature on mega man 5. little did i know.

N00bs. I remember buying Megaman 2 with my own money :lol that was a big thing for me then.

I didn't get into the series untill megaman 2 since my friend and I didn't know you could use powers from bosses in one :lol We tried to beat the whole thing with the blaster.

Capcom has proven they can make some great looking games, like Resident Evil 4.
Why are Street Fighter and Megaman stuck in the past?
I think it's possible to make a great 3D Megaman title, it just hasn't happened yet.

I remember when I didn't think Mega Man could possibly get any better after I got Mega Man 3 in 1990. :)

And sadly, I was right. :\
