IGN Reviews SSX: On Tour

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/657/657437p1.html

None of the changes made to On Tour are earth shattering but for the most part they are positive. This time around players are not just racing champs, they are also high altitude rock stars seeking to build hype and dominate the mountain. Rock and roll has been infused into every aspect of SSX, from the wacky menus and icon system to the excellent soundtrack. The overall presentation looks like a fully animated sketchbook found in the locker of a rock n' roll obsessed adolescent. There are guitar playing unicorns, dancing amoebas, and so many visual non sequiturs that just staring at the menu screen can be a joy.

This edgy artistic approach extends into the gameplay. There are sketchbook icons, an announcer taken straight from an arena rock show, and excellent replays that freeze frame from multiple angles and throw in more crazy illustrations. SSX: On Tour should be commended for its excellent sense of style. While the rest of EA sports offerings are always stupendously functional in their presentation, On Tour is the only title that exudes such personality and fun.

9.5 Presentation
EA loosens up and brings a snow boarder?s sketch pad to life. The presentation is a blast.

8.5 Graphics
Not drastically different from SSX 3, but the feeling of speed will get your heart pumping.

9.5 Sound
One of the best uses of licensed tracks in memory, this is exactly what I want to hear while blasting down a mountain.

8.5 Gameplay
Skiing is a welcome addition but the game is starting to feel a little too familiar.

8.5 Lasting Appeal
Like other SSX titles this one can easily last over 30 hours. But where did online play go?

8.8 OVERALL

get the awesome PSP version instead, check the videos in the other thread...it looks so smooth and it has SSX3 tracks!! SSX3 is awesome, awesome is PSP

I was more interested in this game, but I'm not sure I like the direction the series is going. Is the "punk rock" infusion really necessary? It's still looks OK, I would think about picking up the PSP version if it wasn't 10 dollars more than the console version :/

IGN or Gamespot never mention anything about the tracks in the PSP version being the same as in SSX3/ What's the deal here? Should that be a common knowledge? Do console versions also have SSX3 tracks?

Is this whole game the exact same thing as SSX3 just with a new coat of paint?

I'll only buy the PSP rev this time around.
I'm contemplating doing the same especially if the console versions are 30FPS, like the demo was. It would feel like a step down compared to SSX3, as the gameplay and everything else is simillar technically.
