IGN Reviews Wrestlemania 21

Damn, that was not a flattering review at all. I was planning on picking it up, and IGN has a reputation for being generous, I shudder to think what Gamespot gives it...Damn you THQ for giving the game to Gigante, oh well, more money in my pocket to buy other games...

Who was actually surprised by this? Who actually thought Gigante would actually put together a good package based on what they did in Tao Feng?

I had been worried about this game since IGN started showing vids. It looked broken back then. Oh well...I guess I will go back to "Here Comes the Pain".

You know... i was just about to hock "Here comes the Pain" today, as I was thinking last night, yeah it is good, but I want something with better graphics... Its been 2 years since this came out. I was going to get WM21, but that went out the window now. I'll use that money toward Unreal Championship 2. Glad I kept Here comes the Pain.

Yup, HCTP is still considered to be the best WWE wrestling game out there.

I'm not about to rush out and buy WM21, but I am going to wait for some more reviews to show up before I just pass on it completely. I don't trust IGN's reviews as much as I used to after reviews like Darkstalkers Chronicle, for example. If other sites give WM21 the same score, then I'll be passing on it. I read that some UK Xbox magazine gave it a 9, and Stuff(?) gave it an 8.5, but I can't say I'd go with their opinions over IGN. :) When will sites like Gamespot, Gamespy, 1up, etc. have reviews up?

Seriously, IGN are know for being generous as of late, and the 'Official UK Xbox' mag gave it a 9, but they would have been playing some pre-beta version and they are obviously kinda biased. If IGN gave it 6, its gonna be ugly when Gamespot get thier hands on it...

For me, it's mainly because IGN gave the two Xbox RAW games (which I can't possibly see being better than WM21) high scores, but this game rates a 6. If Gamespot rates WM21 a 5 or lower, then I'll know the game is really that crappy. I'm not trying to defend a game I haven't played, but I'm not taking the word of one reviewer as gospel, either.

But I didn't have a lot of faith in WM21 since its announcement, what with the developr of TAO FENG behind it. :)

Not at all my friend. Unless you go back in time and destroy this game from ever being released...

Well, I totaly LOVED No Mercy too, I played that game to death , but having played it recently I dont think it holds up to HCTP.

The Smackdown series plays like the wrestlers are on speed. No Mercy and the like were perfectly balanced. The action just flowed well.

Agreed, but 6 player HCTP in the Elimination Chamber is multiplayer wrestling bliss....

We can agree that HCTP is the best WWE game of THIS generation.

No Mercy though, was the perfect wrestling sim. If they could just make a version that had...
1. Better graphics, naturally
2. 6 players at once (with that many players, they have to improve the 'face the right person' method
3. Some 'mode' or something where you're the booker, ala Extreme Warfare Revenge
4. Other little things the game should have

THEN we'd have the perfect wrestling game.

Which one came first Wrestlemania or No Mercy? One had HORRENDOUS slowdown... made ladder matches almost unplayable.... and regardless of that beef both AKI games suffered from the superhuman countering AI syndrome at times... really annoying.

Superhuman AI used to make the game SO HARD until I figured how to reverse even better than them. Learning how to reverse effectively and constantly was the trick to mastering that game. (If you ever been to a No Mercy tournament, you can tell who knows how to reverse by seeing who doesn't run away when someone's on special.)

And No Mercy had slow ladder matches if there were 4 players in there (really noticable is there were 3 people, and then 1 person ran in). It sucked, but it was the N64.
