Boy, boy, crazy boy,
Get cool, boy!
Got a rocket in your pocket,
Keep coolly cool, boy!
Don't get hot,
'Cause man, you got
Some high times ahead.
Take it slow and Daddy-O,
You can live it up and die in bed!

Boy, boy, crazy boy!
Stay loose, boy!
Breeze it, buzz it, easy does it.
Turn off the juice, boy!
Go man, go,
But not like a yo-yo schoolboy.
Just play it cool, boy,
Real cool!

pffft....I'm too tired to get worked up over this. The review was most likely done by Doug Perry. And you all know *how I feel about him already*

Nothing to get alarmed by folks. It's still gonna be the greatest videogam ever made, IGN or no IGN.

Ridge Racer gameplay is becoming tired.

Bingo! Racing games have evolved since the PS2 launch. RR6 hasnt.

But it does show that low rated games on 360 are equal to some of the higher rated games last gen. I think Im gonna like this new gen alot! :D

Eh, whatever. Ridge Racer V got average reviews too, those psuedojournalists can't appreciate the true beauty of the series.

Just got RR6 today at Target and one neat thing is that is actually has a lengthy (44p) color manual (unlike the cheap short B+W manual Madden has). Kudos to Namco for putting a little money into the manual. Look forward to playing this tomorrow...

Hum...

I was defiantly going to get PGR3, CoD3 and RR6.

Now I don't know anymore.

So,
Kameo, PDZ or RR6?

It's as IGN said, if you're a long time Ridge Racer fan, you'll be in gaming heaven, else you'll be in deep shit!

Personally, I never thought Ridge Racer was all that fantastic. I don't know why people got so hyped over the game.

Must be because of the PSP.

At least RR6 runs smoothly at 60 frames per second, but that's expected these days.
Is it? I thought PGR3 and NFSMW run at 30 fps?

But anyway this review is completely useless to someone who's arcade racer fan, I mean like other ppl noticed reviewer should be judging game's highs and lows in the context of the friggin subgenre, otherwise what's the point.

This has to be the calmest post I have seen you make when it comes to Ridge Racer. Where is the WHIP WHIP??

IGN suck at life for saying Ridge Racer is shallow. What were people expecting? It's a game where you're supposed to master the handling and practise. Oh, and it's not supposed to be realistic. I had to say that because, from the review, it sounds like the reviewer is so fucking stupid that he doesn't know that

If 5.0 was an average score I'd give this game a 6.0. Maybe a 6.5 (based on the 1-2 hours I spent with it this afternoon). And I'm a huge RR fan. There just aren't enough changes/improvements over RRV or RR PSP to warrant a score much higher than that IMO. Its the same old same old. I sort of knew that going in but I still came away disappointed. This is one game you guys can wait to hit the bargain bin before you buy. You aren't missing much.

Skip this and buy PGR3.

Im sure some hours of PGR 3 infected this review, its like playing Forza for 50 hours and then you'll have to play Burnout or something, it doesnt work.

At least not with me :lol

Well i sure made one shitty comment ah well post +1

What annoys me is that it's being compared to totally different games that have nothing in common with Ridge Racer. Compare it to other arcade racers, not sims. Let's hear how Ridge compares to Burnout? Is it better than Outrun 2? I'd be interested in reading that, even if I disagree with the review. Saying Ridge is poor compared to a totally different game is just stupid, and show how ignorant the writer is.

Apparently, yes.
I mean, we all know it's pretty much the same game, except it has new tracks, full online play, and tons of cars. But the PSP version was...

...another classy effort, with stylish menus, a CG intro starring the lovely Reiko Nagase, keen extras like the AV replay player, and even a little '80s arcade mini-game.
with...

controls that snap to your every decision, and a new gameplay mechanic that makes the fun of drifting even more rewarding.
and scored...

9.1
Outstanding OVERALL
Strange, no?

The thing that i find really stupid about this review is that the reviewer wants the game to be something that it blatantly isn't. This guy should approach the game for what it is (a pure arcade game) and not for what he wants it to be. This kind of thing can confuse a lot of fans that don't even get a scoop on the whole review and just look at the score.

More than a little strange. Reading the text of the IGN review for RR6, almost makes it seem as if the reviewer has an agenda: to place games that are "sims" inherently above games that are not - arcade = old and boring, so 80s, kids stuff. Interesting considering RR6 comes out a couple of months after say, Burnout Revenge, a game with even more unreal and outrageous drifting, looser physics, and little connection to "reality". Yet BR is regarded as a top game in the racing genre today. Hmm...

(I happen to think RR as a series IS somewhat lagging behind in overall innovation, and that Burnout Revenge for comparison shows how to evolve arcade racers in some ways. But the IGN review... more of smack talking about a genre the reviewer thinks should go away than an honest review.)

I would say that the 360 launch list is average. There are always mediocre games when consoles launch (suppose ninty fans might argue).

I remember the PS2 having a pretty piss poor list when it first released. It really wasn't until MGS2 and Gran Turismo 3 when things really started to pick up. I think it could have been worse for Microsoft.

There is one problem though. I dont really see any titles that are good enough to have the Halo-impact at lauch time. Microsoft would definately want to remind people that Halo 3 is on the way.

I just want to say thank you to everyone in this thread that saw straight through that poor excuse for a shitstain of a review. You and I know what the real deal is with RR, so there's no need to even entertain a valid reply to this joker.

Very good points my friend. Although I wouldn't exactly call it strange. I'm quite confident this cumstain was paid cash to trash the game. Infact I have very reliable sources that have confirmed it. I would say that if I see this fuckhead on the street he's a dead man, but I won't even go there.

Just ignore IGN alto-fucking-gether.

So I got a chance to play some X360 games today...

First up was PGR3.....this was the first time anyone played the game so there was no cars in the garage and I didn't like the cars that were available (I thought the Enzo was available right away??)

The good thing is you can test drive just about every car by hitting X when it pops up in the car select screen....I started out with a McLaren F1 LM at the test track but when I tried the in-car viewpoint, it was not as awesome as I remembered from the videos.....

This was a demo X360 running on a small 720p LCD flat panel......I suspected that perhaps the settings weren't right and sure enough, even though the component cable was set to "HD" the dashboard video setting was 480P....Oy Vay!!!

Back up to 720P and things started to look better but it wasn't a night and day difference....

I tooled around with a Lambo Mercielargo 6.2 and a Gallardo on the test track (mostly to dial in the picture settings of the LCD screen) and figured I should take the time I had to try out some other games...

Sadly, the copies of Perfect Dark Zero they had were all preorders (DRAT!) but the guy was willing to open any game that was in the display case, and they had lots of games:)

Next up was NBA Live 06....I played the 1st quarter of 2 games (Lakers vs T-Wolves and Lakers vs Hornets).....the graphics were nice but the control seems a little off to me....the A button is for "Pass" and the B button is *SUPPOSED* to be for a jump shot (Y is hard dribble and X is layup/dunk" but whenever I penetrated the lane to the paint the FUCKING game kept passing the ball with the B button......other times it would work (jump shot with B) and I though I was going insane so in went the next game....the game I would spend the most time with.....

RIDGE RACER SIX :D

OMFG....as a Ridge fan I must say I am very, very happy with this game.....

I don't think it will appeal to all ridge fans because the powerslide is ULTRA easy to perform/forgiving.....very much like the PSP version.....

It is obvious to me Namco did this to lower the frustration levels for non ridge fans (the ones who dont "get" ridge power-sliding technique)....one nice by-product of this is the fact there is a much higher level of precision with your powersliding....you can place the car, and correct steering mistakes much easier than in previous Ridge games....moreso than even the PSP version....

As a Ridge fan, I did not take it as "WTF!?!?! they screwed up the Ridge control-scheme"....I actually appreciated this new control dynamic and had a blast "threading the needle" through turns between other cars....

Give it a chance and you might like it:)

There are a TON of tracks (more like A or B branching paths).....each path is 10 races and through 8 races in 45min I unlocked 0.3% of RR6!!

This is the biggest ridge I have ever seen...

I couldn't really hear the BG music but the announcer (get this) actually trys to mimic Chris Rock!! :lol :lol

"Didn't clear this track??? Next time try some Robotussin!" :D

At any rate, the graphics are BETTER (yes better) than PGR3 in some ways...

On this particular LCD screen, PGR3 has a "smooth" look to it that *is* appealing but the super-vividness of RR6 just *POPS* off the screen and just appeals to me more somehow...

In some places, the textures have that super-detailed look of a Sega arcade game....they dont seem to have several texture passes....they are just rich and deep to look at.....its kinda hard for me to explain it....you will just have to see it for yourselves :)

RR6 does not have a "Skybox" background in the distance that you can never reach....it seems to be a very large "bowl" (I am talking about many virtual square miles here) in which the X360 is rendering....

Within this area, there is no pop up or draw in (I did notice a small amount of draw in with PGR3)....if you see a mountain or city waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay in the distance, during the course of that lap you will be able to drive next to that mountain and through that city....it is the stuff I have been dreaming about for a long time.....

In the end, this is one of those polarizing games......the later Ridge Racer games tend to be that, but it is espcially true in RR6....Namco did make some tolken gestured to the mass market non-ridge players and there is no way you can do that without pissing off some of the core fans...

I would bet that most people who "get" the magic of Ridge gameplay (the core fans, such as myself) will lap this shit up.....the best part of RR6 is it not exactly like any other Ridge but is still Ridge Racer....it has its own identity, but at the same time there is some continuity since adheres to some of the general changes and sensibilities of the PSP game, for better or worse...

If you liked the PSP game(I did) you will love RR6....that said it only has a vague similarity with the portable game even though the total flavor is diffrent...

To be expected, RR6 is a game I feel a small core group will abolutely EAT UP, but those outside this envelope won't change their mind of the series because of RR6..

Let em eat cake I say :D

Take some pics on the XBR960 when you get to play it...Just curious to see how it looks on a decent TV and not a Samsung shitty display ;)

Here's some pics but yeah I'm terrible at taking TV pics with a digital camera soooo...I'll try again later. Basically to avoid the TV refresh line I'm slowing down the shutter speed but that also makes passing stuff blurry like how in the 2nd to last pic there is a car that you can't really see. Also I have no clue where the wierd rainbow color bending lines are coming from. They aren't on the TV, but my camera pics have them so I'm doing something wrong again with how I take pictures.

Anyhow imagine these pics but 100% sharp zero blur, zero rainbowing, and 60fps with basically no noticable jaggies or screen-tearing, or slowdown or anything.
