Ikusagami trailer

Fucking hell, this looks great. It's EDF2 + sengoku period. I didn't think they'd be able to pull off a decent framerate, but it certainly looks like they have. The scale of the attacks matches the scale of the enemy crowds...bahaha! Plus look at all the weapons! :oooo

I watched someone play this today and walked away really impressed with the visuals.

The first videos looked terrible, but the final product moves beautifully and looks incredible. The game actually runs at a near rock solid 60 fps (with slowdown only occuring when you perform some sort of massive special attack) and has all sorts of beautiful lighting effects and such. Seeing hundreds of lit arrows flying all over the battlefield is a really thick grouping is really impressive. In some ways, it was more impressive looking than 99 Nights. The draw distance is much further (for both terrain and enemies) and the framerate was higher...plus there was just more stuff on the screen. There was really no masking fog to speak of.

They should bring it to the US under the name, "Mass Dudes: The Game".

I playted the game a bit at the store (while trying to pick up Animal Crossing) today before work. If you know much about PS2 game development the places where they took shortcuts are blatantly obvious. That said, the game looks pretty darn good, has a solid framerate (as far as I could see) and was actually pretty darn fun to play. I only played about 10 minutes of it but it's definitely a game I'd consider buying after the first or 2nd price drop (there are few games I pay full Japanese retail price for because they're so darn expensive)

This is unrelated but I'll add that those comparing it to Nintey Nine Nights need to hold their comments until they play both games. Ikusagami is nice and shows what tricky programmers can pull off with an older box but once you play both you'll realize that N3 is an obvious generation leap and is much more complex in every single way.

I have played both (well, OK, I've played 99 Nights...but watched someone else play Ikusagami).

N3 does look better, no doubt about it, but it makes an interesting comparison anyways. N3 has a poor framerate (~30 fps with hardcore tearing), extremely stiff and rigid animation (could improve, though), and still limits the draw distance. Of course, the models are all *MUCH* more detailed, the depth of field effects are beautiful, and it's 720p.

I could see where Ikusagami was taking shortcuts, but who really cares when the end results are as we see? It's amazing as hell for PS2.

What was the last build of N3 you saw? The post TGS build is hot and fixes many of the TGS problems. The new build is MUCH better, although, still some problems here and there (vsync and the horrible 10-15 fps dips have been eliminated though).

Well, that's good news then. The TGS build was the last version that I saw.

Any word of whether or not it will be hitting 60 fps? That would be a HUGE improvement, as most games of this type have traditionally been 60 fps. Also, how about the animation? The animation in the TGS build was, uhh, pretty bad looking and the controls felt really unresponsive.

I was just really disappointed with it, that's all. I was expecting a whole lot more out of it. However, it really wasn't finished either, so I'll hold out on judging it.
