I got the call at 5 this morning saying that my best friend of 5 years, Tammi, was going into labor. I rolled out of bed, tossed on my nearest clothes, and darted out the door to pick up Christie and head to the hospital across town.
Call - 5cm dialated

We got there and was greeted by her parents and got to say hello to her before we were forces to leave.
Got there - 8cm dialated

20 Minutes or so went by and we got word that she was 10cm dialated and that she was about to start pushing. Sure enough, that warning was followed with a lot of heavy breathing and a couple of screams, but the labor took 20 or 30 minutes at the most and Tammi and her husband, Barry, were the proud parents of a healthy baby boy.

Hearing his first cry sent chills up my spine and tears to my eyes. It was moving.

So we're all in the hall at this point waiting for the okay to go in and see Tammi and her Baby, but that call keeps getting delayed. Her father began to get concerned, which is something he doesn't normall do because he's very good at keeping his thoughts and emotions inside.

So he poked his head in the room to inquire to his wife about what was happening and she responded with a message of "She just threw up, she's having trouble breathing". Sure enough that got us worried. Then, in a terrible twist, a nurse came busting out and told us all we needed to go to the waiting room and flagged down the nearest doctor and said they needed him in there stat. We all went into the waiting room and her mom came in crying and asked us if we'd pray with her. We all held hands and prayed and the tears flowed like rain. I've never been so scared in all of my life. I've already lost one friend to child birth...
The nurses came in and gave us a status report and said they had her breathing on a machine and that her color had returned and it was the most relief I've ever felt, though I couldn't stop my emotions from going.

They took her to ICO and we headed down, red eyed, to the baby viewing area. There I saw my godson for the first time and he looked wonderful. Full head of hair, full lips, beautiful blue eyes, and a nice, rich skin tone. His eyes kept darting around and he couldn't stop moving his toes around. It was amazing.

Here he is :) :)

We left around an hour ago after finally seeing Tammi and seeing that, while she in ICU, she was doing just fine. She's still breathing on a machine and she's still mostly passed out, but it's far beyond that critical stage. Thank God.

**UPDATE**

I'm back.
Tammi is in great shape and should go home with Blake Lee tomorrow.
He is 6lbs 15ounces and 21 inches long

What happened with Tammi is that she almost died. The doctor gave her the wrong medicine in the IV and it caused all of her voluntary muscles to completely shut down which resulted in her not being able to breathe at all. She kept telling her mom to help her and the doctor kept saying everything was normal... until her vitals began to rapidly drop. They put a tube down her throat and started breathing for her, got her to ICU, and hooked her up to a breathing machine. About 11 this morning she threw up so they took out the tube and she's been fine since. Thank God.

More Pictures!

I finally got to sit and talk with Tammi and her baby. Finally able to make her laugh after her ordeal. :(

the baby's even crying because you used to like your cousin.
He isn't crying... That's junk they put around the baby's eyes for who knows what.
We saw them put it on and neither Tammi nor Barry's mother knew what it was.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

I THINK it's related to cleaning out the gunk from their eyes, whatever's in the placenta with them.

Just got the call that Tammi is breathing on her own and eating yogurt.
I'm heading up there and she should have her own real room by the time I get there.

:D :D :D :D :D

Ugh, childbirth is disgusting...before, during, and after.
Fuckin' A.

When I worked at the arcade, my second boss was this more-than-half nuts Baptist woman. She would talk all day long about how awesome living in the trailer park was, and how she never wanted to move out of it. And one time, she bought some supplies for the place while she was picking up her stuff at Wal-Mart. She had to turn in the receipt to be reimbursed. Also on the receipt? K-Y Jelly. I mean, even though she was fucking nuts, eventually she cracked and really liked me, as did her husband.

Anyway, one of the first days she was there, she was talking about having a kid, or whatever. And informed me that when she had her last kid, she had the birth being broadcast into the family room, so that her family could watch. And apparently they obliged. Weak. I was so shocked that she did this, let alone tell me about it.

I'm not having kids, fuck that noise. And I'm not watching anyone give birth. I'll make an awesome uncle, though.

Afterbirth is one of the most vile words and substances in the universe.

And "placenta" isn't much better... Regardless of what you call it though, some people (read:sickos) actually dine on it.
