Hypnopompic Hallucinations

Hypnopompic hallucinations are generally harmless hallucinations that occur as a person wakes up. They're more common in people with certain disorders, however.

I experienced them often when I was 16 and 17. I had several frighteningly vivid ones in my 20's as well, when I wasn't sleeping well due to burning the candle at both ends.
