Indivisible: Valkyrie Profile/Metroid, Indiegogo, PC/Mac/Linux/PS4/XB1 -- funded!

I'm just NOW learning about this game.

As a Black RPG fan and massive VP fangirl, I am disheartened to now just be learning about this. I don't read gaming sites anymore, and I barely peruse gaf outside of a few threads.

But this game is EVERYTHING from what I'm seeing.

A diverse cast, great animation and art, VALKYRIE PROFILE battle system, DIVERSE CAST. Maybe I can finally play as a Black girl in an rpg for a chance?!

I need it now and I want to thank the developers and tell them that just by looking at the campaign video that they absolutely get it. YOU GET IT, GUYS.

Now I can now hope for a new Valkyrie Profile-esque game without bad art like that new Tri-Ace game. I feel so relieved.

YAAASSS! Isn't it wonderful?

I'm just about the whitest guy you will ever see, and I'm really happy with the diversity of our cast. I've never understood why this is a thing, even.

And it'll be more than just racial diversity, BTW.

We didn't initially set out to do that, but as the story themes developed and the world of Indivisible expanded it just made sense.

~ Qadira ~

Secretly trained by her brother in the ways of combat, young Qadira became quite a formidable fighter. When she was finally of age, she joined her brother at the battlefront against the encroaching Iron Kingdom...only to learn that it was not a woman's place to fight, but instead to tend the wounded and distribute supplies. Crestfallen but undeterred, Qadira worked earnestly as a nurse, remaining ever near her brother.

Then the unthinkable happened - she received word that during an assault her brother had been captured. Without hesitation she donned his spare armor and signature green sash, and rushed into combat.

That day, in a dazzling display of skill, a mysterious warrior single-handedly turned the tide of battle. But with no sign of her brother, and now wary of revealing her true identity, Qadira's quest is only just beginning.

So good. I have no idea how I'm going to be able to narrow it down to my favorite three for my party. The Incarnation designs are just fantastic. Can't wait to see them in action

Lea from Curses N' Chaos!
Someone called her Makoto with a better costume. I won't be able to unsee that now.
No fan art for Toko? She's definitely my favorite Incarnation. Such an unique and original design
Toko is covered from head to toe. The same goes for Qadira. It'll probably make expressive fan art a bit harder to do.
There was bound to be some tiring out after the 900K push. Still, I wonder if it may be a good idea to reveal some of the smaller stretch goals early, to get people hyped to try and hit 1.5M earlier, instead of everyone just being comfortable in the knowledge that it has plenty of time to hit goal. But I know no one wants to jinx anything by doing that, probably.
No, it probably isn't at this point in the campaign.
Large robot is large.

Going to try to get him in at this size, even if it means he can't fight in tight areas. Mike thinks that could be an interesting strategic element to having him in your party.
Bigger than Panzerfaust. That is pretty big.

We're debating putting some stretch goals out as we get closer to the goal.

Mostly because of that one I keep hinting at, which I think will get people pretty excited.

Hm, kind of think the extension was activated too early.

An extension needs to be at least 3 days before the end of the campaign, so...not really. :P

Even if you could wait until the last second that'd feel kind of dishonest, and they essentially got the end of regular campaign boost a couple of days earlier anyway.

Yeah, we felt that after pushing so hard for the extension we had to do it as soon as we hit $900k.

It might have hurt momentum a little, but we think it's the right way to treat our backers. And we believe that will be better for us in the longterm.

I'm just super happy you're doing such an ethnically and racially diverse cast. It is really really crucial and it's not something people are aware of or understand that it's a thing because people like them are all over video games (white American dudes)

I really hope other devs take note of what you guys are doing. It's amazing and I hope to see more consideration of it.

I know some people have posted about the diversity of the cast in other threads, but almost wondering if it could justify a new thread?

It would probably just devolve into people complaining about IGG again, but could be an interesting discussion.

I have an interview that should be going up next week that gets into that a little, so maybe after that hits?

Qadira looks great!

Also with all these characters and this being Valkyrie inspired, will we have to give up party members periodically through the game like in Lenneth?

No, that and the time limit were pretty much the first things we said we'd never do when we set down this path.

We want you to be able to spend as much time as you want playing, exploring, etc. and be able to use whoever you want.

Some story quests and character sidequests bits may require you to bring certain Incarnations along, but that's probably the extent of the character churn we're going to force on the player.

Also...

We want to do a dungeon where Ajna's not allowed to fight, so you have to use four Incarnations. And we'll probably enable this in New Game+, too.

If you PM me with the interview once it's up I'll make a separate thread on it. Or do you guys prefer one as soon as possible?

Ravi not satisfied with 4 threads about his game. ;)

Also whoa, we got a $5K pledge. The Crowdcharts day ends at $22K thanks to that, not bad!

I will not be satisfied until the entire front page is something about Indivisible!

No, but seriously, there is a lot going on in this game and I think there are things we can be calling more attention to.

Whoa indeed

I have to say, this is one nice thing about IGG. A pledge like that on KS, I'd be suspicious of it being a troll pledge. But on IGG, person already paid

Would love if you went in real deep with the details and inspirations from all the locations and countries if at all possibe.
One of the biggest reasons why i am behind this.

I think the thing that sold me was the vampire women head with guts hanging down who feeds on the blood of pregnant women.

More southeast asian fetus ghosts please.

Oh man, there is so much awesome / fucked-up mythology from all over the world, and we really want to get more stuff like the Penanggalen in there.

Okay, this gets me hype. Like...the incarnations fight inside of Ajna's inner realm against her...inner demons? I don't know. Regardless, I love using parties in RPGs where I don't have to use the main character.

Qadira looks fucking rad!

I think what's most remarkable about the cast isn't just diversity, it's that each character shown has a palpable amount of charm to them. It's clear they were all crafted with care, as opposed to the quota-filling, throw-them-a-bone cynicism many gamers dread. Lab Zero doesn't settle for minimum effort or lazy stereotypes, they do their homework and it shows in their work. And they all come to life wonderfully thanks to the fantastic artists and animators.

Oh, that's another character that wasn't in the trailer neat <3

Cool but... the scales are wrong on at least some of those. <_< Ajna is slightly taller than Shovel Knight on the pic comparing just those two, for instance.

I believe this image (from Cellsai) has all the revealed guest characters to the right scale. Still needs LZ to do the Ajna/Lea scale comparison though:

I'd probably wait till after that interview at the very least. I do think it could be an opportunity for a great conversation (this is an aspect of the game that deserves praise) but I dunno if some might interpret as too much of a"tooting your own horn" kind of thing. Can be hard to predict GAF reactions. At least that interview potentially gives such a thread a hook that is hard to criticize as "self-interest". I dunno, I'm probably just rambling.

Diversity in games speaks to a far bigger issue in pop culture than just Indivisible. The fact that it may be misinterpreted as an Indivisible thread actually speaks volumes as to how fucking far video games still have to go.

It sounded like they wanted to create a "Look how much diversity there is in Indivisible" thread rather than a general diversity in gaming thread.

There's this mega-thread plus several other spin-off threads. I think yet another thread would be overkill.

I've only seen three Indivisible threads. This one, the indie guest characters thread, and the extension thread. Compare that to how many threads get made on Metal Gear Solid 5 and Fallout 4...I think we'll be fine.

I too think that the topic of Indivisible's cast is a topic worth bringing up as it's own topic. Just wait until that interview that Ravidrath will have, and then make the thread.

Can someone tell me the name of the games those characters are from?

From left to right:

Annie from Skullgirls, Calibretto from Battle Chasers, The Drifter from Hyper Light Drifter, Juan from Guacamelee, Lea from Curses N' Chaos, Shovel Knight from Shovel Knight, and Zackasaurus from Super Time Force Ultra.

Those are all the names and games that the guest characters come from, at least so far.

I've been wondering if we can see any other concepts of any enemy designs yet?
Might make for some good update material

Edit: Well, then maybe some details about the mythological basis for the monsters and how they might act in game?

I'm assuming this is some kind of Hebrew golem, right?
