inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

OK, I've played about 7 hours, but I have to keep it vague until Weds. The Aliasing doesn't seem quite as bad as the demo, but it honestly hasn't bothered me at all. Also, I didn't even think about the framerate thing until I was actually looking-out over the water, but it doesn't bother me at all either. The framerate, to me, seems better and more consistent that GTA4 has.

I am completely hooked on Infamous, and I'm not big on "sandbox" games. The story is compelling and they NAILED the controls. I hope to finish by the time I do my review on Weds. I'm playing through as 'Good" this time around, so I don't know how different it is to play-through as 'Evil.'

Nice... Your impressions mostly match mine, though the framerate change which comes when ur near water does bother me a bit... Always makes me think what this game would have been like with 60 fps. Its aiite, nothing game breaking, plus I forget it within seconds of moving away from the area.

Will you be reviewing it on your next podcast?

I think the controls are really great, everything feels perfect, everything is fluid and responsive. The camera is fast yet precise, when you're aiming, you don't lose much movement speed and the camera is slower and much more precise, which is what is supposed to be.

It's very easy to climb up everywhere, and there's some kind of magical amount of automation (when you're jumping and trying to land on a small platform or a pillar), you always land where you want to and it never feels too automatic.

It's really great mix of comfort of use, accessibility and precision. Basically it's like playing GTA with Nathan Drake from Uncharted, and with a fast camera. For some reason, open world games almost always have shitty controls, it's like a dream come true :lol Maybe I'm over reacting, inFamous' control may not be anything special or exceptional for some people, but if there is something that you can't complain about in this game, it's the controls. The only way I can see somebody hating the controls would be to hate aiming with stick or to hate traditional controllers :lol
This is a question to anyone playing but since you just posted impressions...

Is there any real benefit for being 'good'? You seem to get better powers when youre bad and you dont have to worry as much about civilians. Whats the trade off?

i've only been checking this thread periodically and even i'm finding your constant and very unsubtle trolling of this game completely obnoxious, especially in the face of all the positive impressions. why the fuck do you care? you clearly have no interest in even playing it, and you're just coming off as a complete dickhead. pathetic.

The constant annoyance at being shouted at and being thrown rocks at is replaced with adoring people taking your pictures, women saying you're handsome and people coming up to you, asking for help, calling you a savior.

Its a good enough trade off for me. Both sides have good aspects... I especially love the good side upgraded electronades... live capture is good for amassing XP. Dunno if there is something of this sort for the evil powers as well... I'll let you guys know tomorrow or day after.

Do the rocks damage you? If so it's going to be hard for me to not go on an endless civilian killing spree.

Not sure... Havent been hit by rocks yet. Civilians throw rocks at your enemies when ur good. :D

The AI has ridiculous aim. I was just zip lining and got hit by a rocket and then when I was in the falling animation where you can't do anything I was shot to death before I hit the ground.

This is something that continues to irk me in the demo. But that's a funny situation to have it happen in.

Just finished the story mode.<Vague hint about where the story goes at the end>
Awesome twist... It is truly a superhero story.
Well done Sucker Punch!

I was gonna go play evil side, but I ended up trawling the islands for shards and dead drops (the game lets you play after the story mode is over). I have all the dead drops from 2 islands, now on to the third. I am not sure if your shards and dead drops will cary over to your new game, so not risking it... I've completed about 76% of the game so far, with 36% trophies, more than any other game I have except for Godfather 2 and Noby Noby Boy.

I am generally pretty bad at game completion... in that I will play a game's story mode, and thats about it... But in this one getting all the stuff is so much fun that I dont feel bored doing it. I guess once I reach a situation where I have 90% of the dead drops and shards, I might get bored of searching for more (the game gives you no indication on the map where they are), but as of now i'm having fun.

None of your collectibles will carry over if you start a new game. I'm currently playing my evil run, but once I beat the game I'm going back to my good guy save and picking up the rest of the shards. I think I have 90 or so shards left. I'm at 62% with the trophies...I think I have a good shot at the platinum.:D

Nice... That sounds like a good plan, i'll follow that template too. I'm gonna get as much as I can, and once collecting shards and dead drops start becoming more of a chore instead of fun, i'll start my evil run.

I'm glad the collectibles make so much sense in the game. Shards give you more power, and you will NEED them, because your upgraded powers can be quite power hungry, and dead drops will give you a deeper background of the story. I will suggest stop looking for dead drops after you have about 20, as some of the later ones start getting a little spoilery about the story. :D

Haha, that's awesome

I preordered the game today, but i' ll be geting the game a week later than most of you GAFfers, since i live in Colombia and that's what i have to wait for someone to import any game here.

So please, PLEASE, keep any spoiler with the spoiler tag for a while after the official launch...

BTW, if anyone's looking for the demo, pm me and i'll help ya with that. :D

haha, this happened to me too! my mouth almost dropped open when it happened because i was already in slo-mo black and white mode, and saw the bullets zip right into my body. pretty badass really, those conduit enemys are pretty well programmed, they always seem to at least get one massive hit on me. it feels like they resist sticky nades too...

Just 100 percented all 3 islands. Now to go after the stunts.

Some of the stunts are HARD!!! I am cry :lol :lol

Edit: People getting hit by rockets -- You will always have some time before the rocket hits you. Always. You just have to be on your toes and always be on the lookout for the firing of the rocket, then the 'whoosh' sound... so really, you get two chances to get out of the way. If its coming from the front, you can try the shockwave if you want... from the back, either roll to the sides, or jump + glide to the side.

Otherwise, yeah, you're in hot water. :D

Even though the release date is shown as 26th May in Play-Asia it seems they already have the game as they are preparing to ship mine today.....:D

so how many hours does it take to beat this?

About 20 hours... with almost all side missions done and between 33-50% of shards and dead drops collected. Collecting the rest of the dead drops will take you a couple hours more, but shards would be a YMMV thing. I'm going through the map block by block. :lol

Ah, I can't afford U2 beta :(, oh well, shopto.net for me.

don't worry, I'll share with you if U2 beta happens to be shareable at all.

I ordered from Amazon UK, expensive air mail option, but I just want the game before U2 beta starts :D

Is there a "block counter" for the shards, e.g. "you have collected 7 out of 10 shards in this district"?

Awe, you are so sweet! *hug* Hopefully, inFamous pre-order isn't the only way to get in the U2 beta thing. Who knows, IGN or some other site might have a few beta keys to give out as well? Keeping my fingers crossed!

I've played through the demo at least 5 times already, and I can't wait to play through the whole game. :D I wasn't going to get the game on launch but after playing the demo I JUST HAVE TO PLAY IT ASAP! <3 shopto.net!

Evil for sure. Some of the powers are more powerful when you play evil rather than good, plus I think the side missions are more fun. Some of them
let you have some minions to help take out your enemies.
>:)

Unfortunately not. :(

We'll sort Dan out too, if he needs it.

GAFe family, yeah.

Yesterday I recorded my 60" DLP while I played through the demo. This has in turn become a music video trailer of sorts for inFAMOUS.

Would anyone be interested in seeing the latest "draft" and giving me some feedback or suggestions about the video?

For a small minority of the hardcore gaming community yes, this may be true, but outside of this forum the overwhelming majority of people that buy this game won't even know what aliasing is, or even notice the frame-rate drops, I have friends that are classed as the 'average gamer', don't post on forums etc and tend to buy games based on cover art, synopsis, and familiarity, even trying to explain slow frame-rate to them is a chore, they play games like GTAIV on the PS3 and to them everything is fine. The main complaints I hear from 'regular' gamers are about glitches, like clipping for example, this is understandable and I think that does break the illusion of the in-game environment, these are the only complaints I ever seem to hear though, I never hear "man this game has lots of jaggies" or "the frame rate is really slow on this game", never, not unless it's from a fellow gaming nerd.

So my point is that the development team is on a limited budget and schedule, why are you going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on extra development time on tweaking the engine to please that 0.05% of hardcore gamers?, I really don't see the point, yes in an ideal world it would be nice if all games ran at 60fps with 4xaa @ 1080p or whatever, but for a game like this it's just not worth it, you'd just be throwing money down the drain.

so Torgo or iamcool388 , one tiny Q

did the game support LPCM 7.1 ( if so , THX Certified ? ) , DTS or just 5.1 ?

thanks in advance

Fuck, this game is exceeding my expectations. A little less than halfway through as "hero" Cole. The game seems to run/look slightly better than the demo (which didn't bother me), but it may just be my perception of it after playing for a few days now.

5.1 Audio (LPCM via HDMI for me) is incredible. Missions (story and side) are really well put together, and even the optional things to collect are done in such a way where it's fun to track them down. Difficulty is perfect (on normal). As everyone has said, they really nailed the controls.

I notice a lot of little nuances from Sly Cooper in the game now, it's weird. Sucker Punch is awesome.

so WTF

This Week on PlayStation.Blog

Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

Good Monday morning! (that’s really easy to say when you’re still sleeping). Here’s what we’re working on for you this week:

* LittleBigPlanet receives “The Patch”
* inFamous goes to the movies
* More zombies shambling toward PSN
* More R2 DLC en route
* Xi in the real world (not The Real World, thankfully)

Finally, I couldn’t think of a videogame-related poll question because I was watching too much Game 7 basketball this weekend. Oh wait:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/05/18/this-week-on-playstationblog-9/

inFamous the movie ?
