Whatever happened to just enjoying the games you want to play and not worrying about scores? I miss old days, I REALLY DO! Now a days, if a game gets anything less than 9/A, everyone is like, fuck it! I'm cancelling my pre-order. Its ridiculous how dependant gamers are on scores these days.

Well people do use review scores for ammo in the console war that is in their heads. If this game received overwhelmingly bad reviews you can just about guess what people will use that to troll here.

CVG: InFamous Review 8.5

But all this flashy stuff didn't stop us from craving the more basic of abilities, namely being able to drive cars, or pick up and shoot guns.

When you spend hours on end shooting sparks at people it'd just be a nice relief to grab a chain gun or rocket launcher and blast off some hot metal, you know? After all, the hooded mutant-like thugs you fight drop guns, rockets and all sorts on the floor. Why can't we pick them up?

And without cars, navigation can be tedious. The city's three islands are pretty big and objectives sometimes have you doing a fair bit of trawling. Now, Cole can speed along train rails or electrical cables in a blaze of sparks, but they're not direct enough.

Uppers
Amazing open-world city
Solid story-led action
Cole's powers are very cool

Downers
Occasionally laborious travel
A few guns would have made it more fun
Frustrating deaths (but good checkpoints)

Its just not a game today without guns. :lol Kinda sad I know.
WITHOUT playing the demo or the game, this reviewers point does seem valid. Maybe not for the reason of diversity, but in an open world game where you are killing people, it certainly seems like you should be able to pick up and use any visible weapons. Particularly something powerful like a rocket launcher.

Seems like a fair criticism, and the game still got a great score. And I'm still buying it day 1.

2 things about that quote...

1) One of the powers you get (1/3 of the way through) is literally
an electro-charged rocket launching ability
.
2) I've never seen an enemy "drop" a weapon, ever.

I also think in one gaming podcast they mentioned that the game actually explains why you can not use guns.

You know, firing a gun could´ve been implemented in a cool way, IMO: set off the ammunition with your magic electro powers! Think Volgin, but using the guns on the floor like improvised grenades. Maybe you could even allow the player to kick the gun away and set it off mid-air:D

Or for the serious "I won´t play it if I can´t shoot" whiners, have Cole use his powers in a electromagnetic way to influence earth´s magnetic field (like during his float) to lift the guns into the air and fire them Magneto-style :D

I think tight controls and good "shooting" with sparks will be enough for me, super excited for the demo tomorrow!

Yuck, Eurogamer is one of the worst reviewers that is taken "seriously". I dont know what they gave inFamous and I dont give a shit, they are terrible.

I would think that Cole couldn't use guns.

They do explain it, as well as the reason he can't drive cars or swim, lol.

Also, all his powers mimic any gun or firearm you would use in any other game.
Sniper rifle, pistol, rocket launcher, grenades, etc. Who cares what it looks like, they behave the same.

Thats a very good point.

Bu bu, it's just lightning! Not as cool as wielding the "real" thing...

They even have "Head Shocks." >.>

I'll still get it, but something like this is pretty annoying. Hopefully it's not too bad. The one thing I thought when I saw Trico's video was "please no motion controls".

You should give it a chance before you knock it. You just tile the controller a tiny bit to "steer" the lightning.

It's nothing like Warhawk, Flower, etc, where you need grand motions and accuracy. It's very very natural, and works great.

Cole has electric powers, which would travel through the metal and set off gunpowder, it wouldn't be consistent at all, I can understand some sites find a need to nitpick but knocking the game for not being able to use guns really isn't really a valid complaint, especially when Cole's electrical powers basically behave the same way as standard firearms but in more spectacular ways.

Can Cole shuffle across carpets to recharge?

I damn well hope so. (And to think... my wife and cats are already sick of me doing that... Hooo boy, just wait.)

How does he use the cell phone strapped to his shoulder then?
Wouldn't it easily short out?

Superheros/villians are supposed to be able to controls their powers, being able to turn it on and off.

Oh well, it's just a game and I know that this it would be near-impossible to implement all the things people want to be implemented, whether or not it's justifiable / practical for this game.

Guns? REALLY?

Who am I kidding this guy is comparing the game to Crackdown.

"But again, getting around in Crackdown is much easier. "

"...- it's not like Crackdown where a few super jumps gets you there. "

Reminds me of that family guy episode.

*reads that review*

I'm at work, but man...where's a facepalm gif when I need it. It's not enough to shoot electricity in all kinds of ways. No, we need MORE GUNS! Are you kidding me?! Mind boggling.

You're wielding lightning. Lightning. A rocket launcher seems positively lame in comparison to this.

Eurogamer always shits on PS3 exclusives. Hell they couldn't even give LBP a 10(but gave one to Halo 3). I thoroughly expect a 9/10 for Prototype fromt hem. Either way though, I don't give a shit. I'm buying it day one.

Yet another review(er) / site talking out their asses?

It's like if The Flash said,

"Fuck it, I'm gonna drive to work."

Or if Darth Vader and the Emperor started using assault rifles.

If you could drive and shoot guns this game would be just like GTA/Saints Row etc and I'd never be interested.

I'm keeping my copy wrapped until the patch arrives just to be safe, hopefully it won't be too long after launchday.
If the patch does not arrive then the special edition will fly back to the store, no way am i playing any game in dutch.
Dumbass Sony...

Please don't badmouth Prototype. I hope that game is also good. I mean how lucky can we be to have two great super powered open world games?

I usually like to check out reviews on games I'm buying, but the demo kinda made them useless at this point. Still nice to see SuckerPunches hardwork getting rewarded with nice scores.

Cole explicitly says that cars explode when he sits in them and guns backfire and nearly take his hand off.

Besides, why drive when you can grind train lines/power lines and why shoot bullets when you can fire fucking lightning into people's faces.

I have been playing this game non stop.

I'm not bad mouthing prototype, I'm badmouthing Eurogamer. They'll give it a higher score simply because it's multiplat. Even if it is warranted or not. I mean that 7 is still the lowest grade for this game so far(and probably will remain the lowest) so i don't feel its unwarranted to say that Eurogamer does have a strong heavy handedness when it comes to PS3 Exclusives. I don't think they've given one PS3 exclusive a 10 this gen. Not 1, and there have been plenty of games that warrant them.

Click, i put the thumbnails of your gifs in two columns in the OP, good cole down the left and naughty cole down the right. Then linked to your posts where ppl can find the larger versions. Looks good I think, loads quick enough as well even on my aging/dying laptop. :)

here come the "biased!" parade, again. This isn't going to be predictable.

the game just keeps sounding better and better, the Eurogamer review has reignited the flame under my hype... oven? I don't know. In any case, can't fucking wait.

No there isn't a game that I can think of this gen that should have got a 10 but anyway....how come these multiplatform games scored so shitty by Eurogamer......

Demon's Souls 9/10
Noby Noby Boy 9/10
White Knight Chronicles 8/10
Flower 8/10
Killzone 2 9/10
Resistance 2 9/10
Valkyria Chronicles 8/10
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice 8/10
Wipeout HD 9/10

How can ANYONE seriously want Cole to use GUNS? I mean, wtf, this guy can shoot lightning, throw cars through the air, throw bombs etc. pp. - why should he even THINK about using a GUN? How unimaginative can one person be to seriously criticize the game for NOT having guns? Aren't there like 10.000 other games with guns!??

The main reason why I liked the demo so much was the combat. It was that great feeling hanging from a ledge and frying guys with lightning or when some guy hide behind a car to just blow the damn thing up and push it 10 feet away...and it's not like this shit is stress for cole, no, it isn't, because he's just so awesome. You know, he puts his hand up in the air and people around him start dieing. And he should exchange that for a gun? So, so stupid.

Those may be good scores, but:

Halo 3 10/10
Braid 10/10
Forza 2 9/10
Fable 2 10/10
Rez HD 10/10
PGR4 9/10
Crackdown 9/10
Rockstar Table Tennis 9/10

Now, call me crazy(and I could be), but half of those games don't deserve those scores. Not to mention that besides DOA4, PD:Zero, and Banjo Kazooie there isn't one Xbox Exclusive(at least hyped title) that has less than an 8. Seems they are at least a little biased when it comes to Xbox.

Since when is giving a game a 9/10 shitting on it?
