inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Travel can be incredibly quick on the rail and power lines when you can glide on them. Faster than cars even in other open world games.

Also there are some excellent missions in the game. Not all the side-missions are great, but some of the story missions are truly wonderful...not sure if you've got there yet.

I'm only a few hours in and played a lot of the the demo, but powerlines and rail sliding aren't available at the beginning so you're doing a lot of running from point A to point B, and rooftop movement isn't as fast because of how they laid out some of the buildings.

This game has tons of mission variety. What the fuck was up with those reviews? Seems like most complaints i've read can be debunked in a few hours of playing.

Thats why its fun

Yeah? Like what? There's no sandbox game that can hold a candle to the core gameplay of InFamous.

See maybe this is where there's confusion. I think the core mechanics of inFamous are fine, and they're fun in the scope of the main storyline. It would be just fine in a more focused action/adventure game.

My problem is how little there is to do to take advantage of this open world sandbox. So far from what I've played in inFamous, even GTA has a lot more to do to experiment in the open world sandbox when you're not doing the main storyline. It's about what you can do and how much there is to explore while doing that. I find the open world sandbox pretty limited and not very fun so far but I find the main gameplay and storyline entertaining.

In an open world sandbox game, I usally find myself distracted from pushing the game forward in the storyline and experimenting to see what happens when I do something, or see how things react if I try something else. I don't find myself doing that here and keep going back to the story. Nothng wrong with that, and the game is fine, but that doesn't mean it's taking advantage of the open world or sandbox aspect and that other games don't handle this part better.

what they could have added is 24/7 mini games like darts or some electric themed game. that's one of the main things other open world games all have that this doesn't

How am I suppose to do the insult to injury stunt (sticky someone and kill with shockwave before it goes off). That sounds impossible.

It's a truly easy stunt, you don't have to use Shockwave, any weapon will do.

Finishing with the shockwave is a lot easier than trying to precision shot someone. I actually got it the first time I tried it with the shockwave. Just get close and go for it.

The power is available pretty early, on the first island maybe 9 or 10 story missions in or so.

Even without it though, you can still run across all the power lines. I don't know if you realized it but you can zap the electrical box at the bottom of all the rooftop poles and they'll explode, knocking over the pole and it'll extend - basically building bridges for you. On the same token the crane poles can be zapped and they'll also build bridges as well as extend a rope down you can climb up later. Those make roof hopping pretty easy.

Wait what do you mean? If I knock out a guy, and he is laying on the floor and I shoot him (to get the +1 EXP) that will bring my karma down?

I think you can kill them however, you just have to stick then kill them before the explosion. Although I could be wrong since I suck at the stunts.

Ya, I've been running across the power lines and zapping poles to make bridges, but I still find some areas where it's not as simple as jumping from one rooftop to another or the distance is just far enough to where I have to do some climbing which of course is slower than if I just ran there. I know you could do a lot more in the demo and I recognize that I haven't opend up the ability yet since I've been doing all the side missions before advancing the storyline, but I just find travel in this game slow compared to say GTA or Spider-Man. Combine that with not much to do on the way there, it just makes travel a bit painful to me.

So really it's just the combination of how you get from point A to point B plus that I feel the open world sandbox is not as interesting as the main storyline. I almost feel they could have ditched it and made it more focused and it wouldn't have lost much other than cutting down some of the travel.

I've stuck and shockwaved a dozen times but they die from the explosion always. Ah, ill play around with it.

No

Only if you use your touch powers and restrain him first and then kill him or if you leach his life will your karma go down

What level is your shockwave attack at? I think once you level it up it actually starts killing/incapping enemies on contact.

Yep...I know that, but it isn't long until you get your power sliding :)

I'm having a different experience I guess. I get caught up in finding shards, dead drops, and dealing with bad guys and running across side missions on my travels to the point where I've never noticed the travel time.

Any tips on the Have a Nice Fall stunt "Take down 3 enemies at once with one shockwave off a roof." I can never get them in a cluster.

I've never been keen on a huge collect-a-thon style of game ever since Rare abused the hell out of them. So I get stuff when I see it, but then I'm not really on the lookout for them. The enemies are just more irritating than anything because of how they snipe you from a distance and how they are so aware of your presence. Because of that I tend to just run by them and move on.

The one part that has been bugging me is that I tried to collect the Dead Drops but and for a short period I kept finding them but now it seems like the radar is just dead. So I stop looking for them. Every now and then I try it and something comes up but after I get that one, it's dead again. Because of this, I sort of stop and forget to look for them.

Here's another problem I have, why can't I climb this?

You can climb pretty much on anything in this game, and you point out one of the few unclimbable things? That's nitpicking on a ludicrous level dude.

He's here for a purpose.. there's a trend if you look at his post history..

Eh? It's not some obscure thing, there's reason to climb it and that structure is all over the place. I'd hardly call it a nitpick. There are a few other instances like this in different structures, but this one is probably the worst offender.

Its pissing me off. I'm on the second island, found a perfect spot (during one of the side missions) there must me like 8-10 of them up there, but they refuse to gather in a cluster.

Wow is it wrong to critique a game now? I like the game, but I just have issues with the mode of travel and the open world sandbox aspect of it (and I love sandbox games). Is there no such thing as a valid complaint when it comes to inFamous?

I did it on the first island in the Dark Water mission but it can be hard to find the right spot. I'm keeping my eye out to find others since so many people cannot seem to find one.

And now we move into the victim phase. :lol

man I hvnt really read or seen much of this game. But I heard awesome things, and I must say I was very skeptical because itw as just another sandbox game.

BUT I MUST SAY!

This game is intensely awesome. I bought it eysterday and put in a 3 hour session without even noticing the time go by. (Although no auto save bugs me). But other than that it like takes the best elements from Force Unleashed, Mirrors Edge, and GTA and mixes them together in such a sweet harmony! I didnt liek any of those games by themselves but damn, this game is sublime.

Also the intro is AMAZING!

Good god, is the pic I posted not a valid complaint? It's a structure that leads up to the rail line. It's everywhere. Why would you not have the structure that leads up to the rail line climbable? How is that not a valid complaint rather than it being blown off as a nitpick?

I also don't like how on this, half the time it will auto lock you and move you around to the side and the other half you'll just slide back down to the gound. They should have structured the pilars and access points to be more scalable to the railway.

i thought there was supposed to be a voucher or something for uncharted 2 included in every new copy of the game?

i just got my copy and don't see anything :(

Had a 6 hour marathon today finishing up the good side story. Finished the story at 46% complete, ending was cool, didnt expect it. Booted right back up and now I'm starting again as Evil, and doing my 100% run through that. Just wish there was a way to see how many hours I put in.

As far as the game goes, everything but the performance of the game is top notch shit. I'm a little disappointed with how much pop-in and slowdown there is. Once you get some of the later abilities and do some of the larger scale missions it's more noticeable.

There should have been a sticker on the wrapping saying it was inside. If not, you probably didn't get one.

You can complain, but when youre complaining about something that only happens 5% of the time youre playing then you look a little foolish is all. I think I tried to climb that 3 times in the 15 or so hours I played the game.

But if you complained about lets say, how hard it is to traverse buildings with balconies then Id say "yea youre right". But this shit... who cares...

Eh, it's pretty much just an extension of the latter Sly Cooper games. Aside from the lack of stealth, and a few tweaks for scaling structures more efficiently, Cole basically performs all the same acrobatics as Sly does. And though they were separate in Sly, the different hub worlds are equivalent to the different islands.

I just finished story mode. Thought the story was really well done. Thought the ending was well done also. Have a few more blast shards to collect, and one or two more dead drops.

Can I not complete every mission now since I've been evil the whole time?

On my next (good) run, will it give me the 100% side missions when I complete the good missions?

This. Obviously you're more interested in taking pictures of areas you can't climb than actually playing the game. Why not sell it to someone who will enjoy it?

Well I did complain about that and people blew it off that i should be grinding the rails and the lines between buildings.

The thing is when people start recommending that I use the railways then I encounter the issue of scaling up to the rail. I find myself often facing the pillar as you see it and I think it's a flawed design to have the railway be a means of transportation but then such a chore to scale it to get to it when everything else is scaleable. From a design standpoint, it seems bad to make a object that looks fairly big enough and the obvious point of climbing to not be climbable. Does that make the game suck, no, but it is irritating.

But man, to point it out, you get jumped on and people try to blow it off as if it doesn't exist.

I'm playing the game just fine thanks. Nowhere did I say I didn't like the game as a whole. In fact I've said I'm enjoying the main storyline and gameplay part of it. I'm taking the pics now cuz I just happen to be in front of it and encountered the issue which was an issue that people told me didn't exist in the demo but I didn't have a camera handy then to point it out.

Wow, the game moves so beautifully when it hits 60fps near the water. Not complaining about the FPS when you're in the city, but it moves so nice when you look at the sea are near those areas.

Love this game so far.
