[Info needed] No Ferrari in Gran Turismo. Why?

TTP

Have a fun! Enjoy!
Anyone knows the legal stuff behind the absence of the Ferrari brand in the GT franchise? Why do we see Ferraris in games like OutRun2 and Forza Motorsports and not in "the real driving simulator"?

Thanks

Huh. It isn't confirmed that they won't be any Ferrari yet.

At first, all signs pointed that they wouldn't be any backfire or spoilers, but now they are in.

The Ferrari family are long time friends of the Miyamotos.

That explains why Mario drives a red Ferrari.

"If I remember right, EA bought the license for Ferrari."

that can't be it since it's raining ferraris in non-EA games.

EA doesn't hold the rights, Ferraris are in PGR2.

Indeed. That's why I'm curious to know what's the problem with adding them in GT too. It's not like the GT franchise sits on a tiny budget...

I believe it's because the Ferrari license alone costs an f-ton of cash (inordinate with how many cars that'd go into a game)... not because of exclusivity.

I'm not talking about GT4 specifically. You could find Ferraris in many racing games at the time of the previous installments releases. Hence the question: why?

So that's just a money issue? How could Sega afford them tho?

Ok guys, thanks for your thoughts. Yet there are no "official" reasons about it right? I mean, the "too expensive" reasoning is just an, albeit likely, supposition?

It's a known fact that Microsoft has a great relationship with ferrari. They even had 2 Ferrari engineers coming to help with some of Forza's simulation aspects.
Not sure it prevents Sony from licensing their cars, but I don't think it helps.

Becuase thats the only license that Sega had to pay for. There are 700+ cars in GT4, all of which have a license that has to be paid for and I am sure PD doesnt have an unlimited budget.

We want Porsches in GT4

RUFs are so much better. Why would you want a Porsche?

In the past GT1-2, Ferrari was not part of the (super)GT/TC ciruit. *

*I can not remember the exact name. I do remember it being in the news.

Because there are much more different Porsche cars than the ones RUF modified ?
I can't believe someone who describes himself as a car lover would say such a stupid thing. What about 911 GT1/2/3 ? Vintage cars ? Race cars ? Le mans/prototype cars ? And so many that RUF will never touch ?

i don't think ferrari would like to see their supercars beaten by dinky japanese sedans boosted to 1000+ hp. and that's always been gt's thing.

I don't know if someone owns the license right now, but I've heard that Polyphony Digital hasn't wanted to spend so much on the licenses so thats why ferrari and porsche aren't in GT. They used RUF as a backdoor to porsche.

There is backfire in GT4?

Are you serious?

Anywho Kazunori Yamauchi said that while they won't be in GT4, GT5 is a possibility.

As long as I have these I am not really going to miss any others.

They've also unveiled a few new views, one that locked in right on the cars rear and a bonnet cam.

I approve of this car!! 0_0

"I never knew PGR2 was on PS2 as well..."

What's the difference? If you want ferraris on PS2, there's always F355 challenge, and didn't acklame work on a Ferrari 360 racer back then that never came out?

wtf, is that a prancing horse i see on that pic up there? Is that a photoshop or is there another manufacturer that uses a horse as their symbol???

And the bonnet view really seems to be a roof cam view. Better than nothing...

Can't find the pics, but when a year back the pictures of Polyphony Digital team traveling across the world and photographing cars fot GT4's 3D atrists to render, I thought I saw a picture of Ferrari 250 GTO. It might have been a Toyota 2000GT as both cars do look a bit similar. However, there's only one italian carmaker with a prancing horse on a yellow background in the logo.

O_o
I swear the mighty Lord (EA) I though those where taken from some over-compressed real life footage.

Link to the video they come from?
