kaizoku

I'm not as deluded as I make myself out to be
Why is there like no news or anticipation for this game? Its out in about 20 days!

If anyone has any news or anything from Famitsu or anywhere at all, please share!

Anyone plan to buy this? This is the game to make me buy a PSP! I really want to know whats in the Limited Edition thats on sale on Play-Asia though, no details as far as I'm aware!

You care about this game?

(What's the BB code for censor?)

Initial D is awesome(in the arcades) and I have never been able to import PS2 games so this is my only chance to play one away from the arcade, so..HELL YES.

drifting action is awesome.

I love intial D to death, but I am not excited about this game at all.

I saw a video of it and it looks a lot worse than the one for PS2, which surprised me.

I also see the nub giving you hell.

Can anybody please name the BB code for censorship? With the black paint over it? Ill delete this message afterwards.

D-Pad FTW.

I pre-ordered it because I'm a whore for Initial D. Now I'm scared.

I love Initial D.
A lot.
Played the arcade versions like crack.
The PS2 game was horrible.
The PSP game looks worse.

Conclusion:

The reason Initial D is amazing is becuase the steering wheel in the arcade turns so much, meaning you have to employ 'throw and catch' drift techniques. Which is ace. Doesn't really work with the thumb. The arcade makes you sweat - it's an active game. Doesn't convert well to console IMO.

Note: Anyone seen that Chinese Initial D live action feature film? It is, as they say, fucking amazing. :)

There really aren't that many gaming experiences which match drifting around a corner side by side with a friend, wrestling with the wheel while the speakers sceram out "GONNA CATCH YOU! LIKE A SPACE BOY!"

Really really love the arcade, but its so damn expensive. Has anyone tried PS2 Initial D with the driving force pro wheel?

edit - oh and the film is nice yeah. Jay Chou is a gerat singer/musician too. Just recently got into his music even if I don't understand it.

With slow player advantage turned off. Prefer LOVE IS DANGER though!

I think I did. (Must have - got the game and the wheel) Can't remember though - probably indicates it wasn't too hot or I'd have never left the house.

Arcade game rocks, PS2 game sucks. I hate games that force you to use the RCA audio out, too. I hope the PSP version feels more like the arcade game, though, so I look forward to reading GAFer impressions once it's released.

Ugh, I hated this film. I was looking forward to it after seeing the first trailer, but it was one of the worst movies I saw all year. I hated how they made Bunta an alcoholic, child-beating, underage-skirt-chasing-perv, and the Takumi/Mogi "love story" was so incredibly bad, with Anne Suzuki's acting being on-par with those guys from Church Sword Battle.

Some of the drifting was cool, but some of the key moments in each race were done in CG, and bad CG at that. The Emperor DecoTora was classic, though... that was about the only thing I smiled at. No Super Eurobeat soundtrack, either, replaced by Jay Chou boy band crap. No thanks.

I don't understand what was wrong with the PS2 version of the game. I played the arcade game to death (Undefeated with a Silvia S13 in Ver1, played tons of Ver2 and skipped 3) and my only complaint about the PS2 version was the lack of multiplayer. Other than that, it was just fine. Initial D was never a pretty game to begin with. Neither was the anime.

If the PSP game at least plays like the PS2 version did, I'll be happy.

Yeah its not a patch on the anime, but I don't think it was ever intended to be a film of the anime, but a film based on the anime. It was an ok film for the racing action and thats about it :)

The feel of the game's drift mechanic felt off to me, and I never quite got used to it. It's been a few years, but I remember the game having some of the worst cheater AI since MK64, too. :)

I will say, though, that I appreciated the full VO on the dialogue screens, and I liked the comments during gameplay. And, of course, having the Avex tunes in there was really nice, too.

Graphically, I thought the game was competent, but you're right -- the arcade version isn't pretty, but it was backed up by some of the most addictively competitive racing gameplay since the days of Daytona.

I just enjoy playing the game, even if its just me on the track, in that sense, would it be worth importing PS2 version if you have the DFP?

Someone who's tried it give impressions PLEASE!

Actually, the way Initial D works is that all the AI have a set time in which they hit the finish line. It's more or less like a time trial with a ghost you can bump into :X

Which is why I need to know. . does the PSP version support any sort of multiplayer? ;____;

If others don't jump in with their impressions, I'll hop on it tonight and let you know. My friend has the game here, so I can bring it home and give it a try. I didn't have a DFP at the time (I don't think it was out yet)... only the original wheel for GT3. Not sure how different it'll be, though, since I'm sure the DFP will be running in legacy mode.

If you don't care about multiplayer, that could definitely change your impression about this game. It was one of the key elements of what made the arcade game fun, and for Sega not to even include 2-player split-screen was truly a WTF-were-they-thinking? moment.

With that being said, it sure plays a hell of a lot better than SR2006, though. :lol

Really? Wow... so even if you bump them, they'll still cross the finish line at the same time? If so, no wonder it felt so strange... thanks for the 411.

Well, if you block them while you're in front, it'll work. It's how I beat a lot of the Bunta challenges.

But once they're in front, all bets are off.

Love the anime, love the arcade game, love the PSP.... HOWEVER, I suspect this game might be a really ordinary racer and all the true anime fanservice is going to be in the Japanese language cut-scenes. I really hope that isn't the case though - tofu time trials baby!

According to Play-Asia... yes!

Initial D: Street Stage is the long awaited Port of the arcade smash hit, Initial D: Version 3. Street Stage brings all of the Game modes straight out of the arcade into your psp. Players can race head to head via wireless Ad-hoc, Or take on the racers straight out of the anime! Street Stage introduces a new Card system for customization of their vehicle. For every race/battle you win, a card is awarded. Different cards provide different effects, so the more you race, the more powerful your car can be!
(^__^)v

The other features actually sound kinda cool, too. After not paying attention to this game, this thread has me cautiously optimistic about it now. :lol

But. . But. . Both people have to have the game, huh? GAAAH~
Ahh, good point... as an aside, since I'm a PSP noob, do PSP games support single-disc multiplayer like the DS titles?

Is there any video's on this anywhere? I'm pretty interested in this... No plans of this coming to the US i take it so import only? hope it's user friendly...

lol at CG in the real initial D movie... and +1 to the Super Eurobeat stuff should've been in the movie, not that other "stuff"... Speed Lover, Spaceboy, Speedy Speedy Boy, Go Godzilla Go, Love is in Danger, Killing My Love, Lonely Love (that's a lotta love), Night and Day, Lost into the Night, and especially Dog Fight FTW (not eurobeat, but awesome none the less)...

Initial D def has some of the best music ever in Anime...

Here's the soundtrack...

Dog Fight
Speedy Speed Boy
Remember Me
Save Me
Over The Rainbow
Stop You Self Control
Crazy for Love
Express Love
Power of sound
Fall In the Web of Desire
Pamela
Fight For Love Tonight
Dancin' in my Dream
Get Another Chance
Fire on the Beat
Ready to go
Changes
Demolition
Mad About You
Overload
and Fevernova

all Eurobeat... One of the best soundtracks ever in a game? ;)

Any reason "not" to buy the Asia version from playasia??? It says it comes with an "English" manual... and a lanyard... and it's cheaper than the JP version...

Mine shipped today. Asia version.

Though I got slow shipping because it's not high priority and I want it to be a SURPRISE~ when I finally forget I ordered it.

IMPRESSIONS PLZ!

Thanks for the list, personally there are not many more exciting arcade experiences than drifting round a bend sideby side with a ival to the tune of eurobeat before accelerating away.

As for the Asia versions, please let me know how they turn out. I'm always sceptical of Asian stuff, associate them with cheaper packaging etc. I went for the Japanese one.

I also shop exclusively at yesasia thanks to their tax-free to UK policy and free delivery.

Asia version ships earlier than Japanese in this case and they get a free bonus :\ weird that. I suppose they are trying to boost the popularity of Initial D as a franchise as well as sell the game. Since I pre-ordered from yesasia I do get a cellphone neckstrap though ....which is lame....

The game got 8,7,7,7 from Famitsu btw which is solid, was worried it would be a stinker for awhile.

Feeling tempted, because

1. I like the arcade one
2. I like Eurobeat even though it's admittedly musical diarrhea
3. PSP <3

Me too! I'm 90% certain I'm going to-- aw who am I kidding?! Of course I'm going to cave in and buy it tomorrow, even though I should be saving for the DS Lite and all the March releases...

I'm new to this importing stuff comparo's... Did you ever order Asian versions before and got crappy packages? Wouldn't it be the same game case and what not? or is the "English" manual a hackjob sometimes??? I'm lost... I was ordering the Asia version till i saw this...

Sorry, didn't mean to put you off. I have no idea how it will turn out, but going off of movies and stuff, it is possible that its not as high quality. But with the price they are charging, it should be.

Games industry clearly isn't the move industry.

I went for Japanese version simply cos I see it as "the original" and kind of better in my collection as Japanese rather than Asian. Kind of like Greatest Hits versus Original version.

I could be incredibly wrong though and Asian version could be 100% identical bar English manual.

It's the English manual that really is the thing that's tempting me... and the lanyard... :lol but naw, that manual may make the game much more enjoyable instead of being stuck at an options window... heh...

Maybe i'll still go with the Asia copy... i'll let ya know how it turns out...

The Asian version will be entirely in Japanese; the text on the packaging and the manual will have Chinese, and the "English manual" is a small insert included in the manual, that often tells you nothing of any real use.

Sometimes the Asian versions are a bit cheaper, although if you care about value, the Japanese version is usually considered the "better" version and will resell for more, even though the games are exactly the same.

eh... I ordered the Asian one earlier... not being shipped till March 8th... :( you guys will have to post up how it is when you get it... wayyyy earlier than me... :(

got this last night but had limited time

first note : 2.60 upgrade required

Seems okay, graphics aren't amazing, but the handling is decent enough, but default config has X as accel and square as brake which was causing me some problems, will have to switch the control method - didn't notice any load times, and had a fun couple of duels.

CONSTANT talking during the race started to jar a little bit.

HEEEDEOUS music as usual! ;)

Oh, and it came with a UMD movie disk too - has a trailer for the movie on it as well as some other stuff.
