Injured Cat

I know there are a lot of rabid animal lovers here so I'm asking for your advice.

There are a few stray kittens (actually not quite kittens, but not full grown) by my mother-in-law's house. She was watching my son (nearly 3) and one of the cats approached him. He's not exactly a gentle kid. He's not a terror, he's just 3 ya know? Anyways Sarah really likes that cat and Jason likes the cat so they get me to agree to keep it. Well the cat has had a broken leg in the past. You can see right abover her foot on her rear right leg a spot that's the width of her leg by about an inch that's all roughed up and red and the leg turns in just slightly. She walks on it so I have to assume it was broken and then healed back up.

I figured it'd be fine, but this weekend it started to leak puss. It was kind of milky. I cleaned it with a baby wipe and then an alcohol pad. The cat seemed fine with it so I assumed it was just a slight crack. Well today the area is red, like more of a red puss, but it's not gooey, it's just like...there. I clean it and wrap it in gause but I'm not sure what's wrong. I'm not about to take the cat to the vet and spend $60+ I don't have (when I ave to pay $1,600 for a transmission) and get the leg re-broken and set. I mean it's a stray.

My vote is for the Humane Society...what do you guys think?

take it to the vet. i dont know where you have to get the money from but do it.
or you can take it to the humane society and have that on your conscience for the rest of your life.

The cat sounds like it needs medical attention.

If you really want the animal taken care of take it to a vet and tell them you can't afford to pay for its care. They'll tend to the animal, then keep it.

I don't want to sound harsh but If you're not willing to spend money on an animal's medical needs, you really shouldn't adopt one in the first place.

Take it to a shelter or leave it with a veterinarian.

Sorry, I know this isn't the place for this, but I just saw this really sick video that was emailed to me of a cat being burned alive for no good reason. It's everything that's wrong with the world. That desire to do something like that. I can't eat now and neither can that cat. :(

...

WTF...

:lol @ "...neither can that cat."

Well I sincerely doubt I'd have anything on my conscience. I was told about some spray they use on farms for animals that get caught in barbed wire. It turns blue and is for treating infections. I think I'll try that before the Humane Society get's her. She's actually a decent cat when she's not shitting on our bed, or couch or other places she isn't supposed too. I think I've been really tolerating with this one. We took in a stray after Jason was born. It was litter box trained and then one day it pissed in my son's car seat. Needless to say it was outside within 3 second. The hammer of justice is swift.

I believe the blue spray is Dairy Spray. I think it is mainly used to keep the flies from making the sores worse. I don't think that is what you want. I'd take the cat to the vet. Just getting the cat looked at shouldn't cost much.

Well funnily enough that's all I was doing over the weekend was trying to catch and rescue these stray kittens that were no older than 4-7 weeks old, in the woods behind the local Kroger supermarket. Pain in the ass but worth it considering they were all healthy. :)

Anyways not sure if this is of any use but what we did was to contact a local pet store first and see if they're taking in any stray kittens. If so then just mention how they're a few in a certain area and if you can catch one can you bring them in at a certain time, you'd need only mention that you caught one with a broken leg afterwards in a seperate phone call. That way they'd not only take it in and get it looked but also make sure it's 100% healthy and then put it up for adoption.

If you want to front the money yourself then just take it to a vet but you'll have to pay for appointment, possible operation and medicine but the main problem is whether or not it has feline leaukemia since the majority of strays do have it as it's highly contagious. If you take it to the Humane Society and it does have leaukemia then they won't even bother with the leg and will just put the cat down regardless.

God damnit, I went and hugged my cat after reading this.

Then when I was giving it its dinner I cried thinking of the cat that can't eat :(

Oh god ;_;

My cat was running around like a crazy guy today, so I though I'd pick him up.

BAD FUCKING MOVE.

He anal-sprayed me with some cat scent that smelled like concentrated cat shit. Terrible smell.

That being said, get your cat medical attention.

And don't let me hear again how you threw a cat outside after it did something it wasn't supposed to.

Yeah, I know. I can't stop thinking about it. I took a nap, but I keep... I won't even describe the video. You know how when a kid plucks the legs off of an insect all hesitantly and curiously. It wasn't like that, it's done so callously and nonchalantly, I mean, can people be raised like that?

this reminded me of a story that happened here not so long ago: (Don't read if you like cats)

A couple of teens, obviously for lack of nothing better to 'do', decided they'd be prett nasty to some cats. It was all caught on security footage. On this footage, there was a cage which was laid by some governmental agency or something - designed to catch stray cats. I forget what for - maybe for control, for study or whatever. Anyway, the cage is off screen, and it shows a these kids bike up to it, inspect it, and then bike off again. The cage has caught a couple of strays.

A little later, they return...with a canister of glue/solvent, and they pour it over the cats in the cage, lay a trail into view of the camera (which they didn't know was there), and then set light to the trail. The trail ignites, sends a flame offscreen over to where the cage was - there's a bright flash, then a horrendous screaming and rattling in the cage for what seems like forever, and then silence.

The kids bike off.

They were, of course caught. One of them atleast, was completely unremorseful. He claimed they were high on mushrooms, and also that those cats were going to be killed anyway. He would flip the finger to cameras and laugh proudly when the media got hold of him. I only wish they gave him teh same fate as those poor cats.

Imagine for a split second that you were that cat, and the cat was you.

Would you be all like, "Well he does need the money for a transmission, fuck my pussy leg".

Don't be a sick fuck. Take it to a vet, or somewhere where it WILL get the medical attention that a non 3rd world country can provide. Don't spray paint it's leg, you are not a doctor.

You have to have a pumping heart to have a conscience and I think the OP made it pretty clear his heart is as black as the blackest charcoal. So I guess the cat will be put down, at least the OP will be able to save the $60 for the next big videogame.

Just give it to the people whose job it is to take care of stray cats. problem solved.

Excuse me for valuing human health over that of a cat. Actually after it was thrown out it'd keep coming back. We'd leave food out when we saw it and eventually time between it's visits were longer. I did see it chase down a full grown raccoon though so at least the cat turned into a badass.

Oh, and it's not spray pait dumbass, it's for animals when they get infections.

Repulsive children. They should have been executed.

Imagine for a split second that you were some random person living in poverty, and that person was you.

Would you be all like, "well, he does need the money to pay his internet bill so he can post on a videogame message board, fuck the fact that i havent eaten a proper meal in a month and fuck the vaccine that would save my life".

Now imagine another random person living in poverty. Continue this process until you've imagined every single person living in poverty.

Imagining is fun.

I can imagine a world where your sense of morality is completely consistent with the way you live your life. I've got one crazy sense of imagination.

I can also imagine an absurdly retarded defense being posted in response to this, and i dont imagine i'll feel compelled to respond to it.

You don't throw a cat outside when it makes you mad.

If you decide you don't want to care for the animal any longer, take it to a vet or the SPCA and have them care for it.

What you did is wrong, and should be illegal.

I do donate my time to United Way projects...so in a sense, I do help those in poverty. However I also NEVER value animal life over human, especially my own kids. If a cat wants to piss in my newborn's car seat....then fuck that cat. The can was alright, cats don't NEED humans. They're fucking animals, they survive in the wild. Cat did just fine before humans and they'll continue to do fine. The infection is even healing decently without any antiseptic save for the cats own spit.

And for the record, I don't pay for internet....I get it for free along with my Platinum Digital Cable package. Work benefits ya know.

Morality aside, I just think the OP is a tightarse. Oooh $60 for the vet, dude I payed similar the other week to get my cat desexed, as well as similar amounts on several other occasions for vaccines and checkups. You don't see me bitching about it, or saying I can't spend the amount because I have to save up 15 grand for university. No, you just fucking do it instead of making weak excuses like you need money for a transmission (whatever the hell that supposed to mean) or that it's a stray cat so its health doesn't matter. Whatever. Dude do mother nature a favour and never own another animal again, cheers.

why the fuck would you post on the board asking for advice and then when people give you advice you just ignore it anyways? you SHOULD take it to the vet and leave it if you can't pay for it, but I'm sure cattle medicine will work just as well. Good thinking there.

It's a cat dude....a cat, a cat, a cat, a cat, a cat cat cat cat cat cat. They do quite well in the wild. Imagine the choice between hard dry cat food and a fresh bird or mouse? If you were a cat then what would you prefer? Cats are predators. I don't see cats eating much tofu or soy.

Further, it wasn't even my idea to get the cat. I was against it but outnumbered.

Wow, so you never heard of a transmission? I'm driving a shitty ass 94 Cavelier until my regular vehicle get's fixed.

I was hoping you were confusing transmission with transfusion, as if you had some urgent medical condition or some such shit. But no, just when I thought you couldn't be anymore heartless...zing.

What goes around comes around. You're too hesitant and you already know what you should do, but you won't. Why ask for help if you're not going to use it?

I was asking for help as far as medications I could administer. I dunno about you, but if I get an infection, I don't go running to the doctors and cry about it. I buy something to fix it.

Well, it's called compassion. You apparently don't have any. Good luck with that.

It's not like I buried it in the ground and mowed over it's head...I WANT to buy some medicine. I know it exists. If you don't know of any then
Shut%20the%20Fuck%20Up.jpg

Yeah, people that care about their car more than anything else. I know a few people like that but when it really comes down to it, they'd do the right thing. And what if the medicine costs too much? I mean, your car does need it more.

...and if you didn't have an infection, but an obviously broken leg leaking puss? You still buy something to fix it, Mr. Tough guy?

it's not broken anymore, it's healed itself...imagine that. The cat has no issues walking straight or even running. It can even scratch behind it's ear with ease.

Yeah, well it needs to get fixed cause if it doesn't and the POS I'm driving now breaks for good, then it'll be a choice between me getting to work everyday or Sarah getting her Masters degree. I think I'm gonna have to side with Sarah getting an education and me getting to work. See, I take care of the HUMANS first, pets later. You guys are actually making me think about tossing it right now so it's not even an issue.

fucking hell at all the people telling him off over not paying for a vet for a stray cat.

I saw a mouse in my house this morning, I tried to smash it with a broom. please be gentle with me :(

Was it a pet mouse?

the humane society fixes the cat and spends three months to place the cat. It's still young and cuddly. I'm sure the humane society isn't that bad....not animal control is a different story
