[Insider Gaming] Microsoft Removes DLC Discounts For Xbox Game Pass Members, Will Get MS Rewards Points Instead

Fair enough, I'm guessing ur perhaps fortunate that you can afford that, I mean up until a 5 years ago I had countless subscriptions that rolled over monthly, but as living costs have gone up in the uk and wages didn't as the years crept on I could barely able to afford all my bills some months the past year or two so had to cut back and scrimp and save on every level, I don't miss Netflix, I definitely don't miss BBC. I don't miss Disney plus for example and for a while I had a break from Xbox gamepass completely, but when the conversion saver came up on my dashboard I looked at it again and 3 years of gaming for less than £90 was the better choice than just focusing on my backlog and not buying new games. Can't say gamepass fills my gaming needs completely but it sure has helped
Its been cheap enough for me to afford it. But I can relate to that. The ultimate tier probably became very expensive for families with low income and already struggling with the economy. edit And the DLC/currency prices.

Jeopardizing subscribers for profit is what's happening unfortunately raising prices is incredibly common today, I'll highlight direct tv going up by $5 this month.

He has an extremely punchable face.

They really did just rip the band aid off.
Yeah. I guess it was this or close it all down.

There will be some adjustments in gaming behavior after this, the hobby will become exponentially more expensive for me once my sub ends. Or rather I'll just go back to playing 9+/10 or late releases on sale. And no indies unless it's Silksong type of big releases. Boring.

I was around when Sega finally hit the wall as a platform holder and that was a hell of a thing to witness. Never thought we'd see something like it again.

The Xbox meltdown is somehow even more fascinating to watch given how much fallout is still to come and how it will reshape the industry.

I'm very very glad that subscription gaming is doomed. It was never a good fit for this hobby and the way it distorted customer habits was a negative too.

Points instead of a discount, so it now counts towards the new cap on the number of points you are allowed to earn in a year. They're really hammering the people heavily utilising MS Rewards.

I also note that they've decreased the daily mobile streak points. It used to be 5/10/15/20/25 for logging onto the Xbox app 5 days in a row, now its 2/6/10/14/18. I'm sure they've quietly nipped other areas for Rewards as well...

Just more proof that their business model wasnt sustainable at all, which we already knew. They're done subsidizing and eating losses. They just released a $1000 handheld, the Xbox Series X is $50 less than a Ps5 Pro, and the yearly price of Gamepass is enough to buy 5 AAA games a year, except you'll never own them.

Look, im all onboard with the MS hate train, but did you actually read the article? At no point does he say he hates video games.

He says he hates the world where the dominant leader in the industry defines competition as exclusivity. As in exclusive games, as in the walled garden people kept spamming on about for years.

He literally says just before "if it were up to me, i would get rid of exclusivity"

How does that say he hates video games? He's saying he hates that competition in the industry is defined by securing exclusivity for one platform by paying third party and developers to not put it on other systems. The exact thing people were harping on that MS would do if they bought Activision.

What is this Reddit? How are people's reading comprehension skills so low?
Ah so he's going full Sega circa 32X era.
