International Mens Day 2024

It's November 19th, that means it's International Mens Day! A day to focus on positive male role models, mens issues and problems men face in higher numbers such as homelessness and suicide.

Or a day to use as an excuse to treat yourself, go on lads, buy that new game/DLC, you've earned it!

Coincides with my birthday so I always bring it up when people say happy birthday as I feel it's more important to recognise a day for men that people ignore. Our ancestors built the world we have today but so many don't care.

Masculinity is emotional control, resilience, protecting others even if it means sacrificing your life, providing for your family, loyalty to your friends. It is strength, honor, and ambition, independence and self-reliance, brotherhood. It is the quest itself, perseverance no matter what, mastery at any personal expense.

Masculinity is good.

No one cares 🤣

And that's the sad thing about this day. Nobody cares.

Perhaps if more people cared we could use it to highlight issues that men face today, such as high percentage of men suffering with poor mental health, or male suicide rates being far lager then women.

Google normally does a Doodle to celebrate international days or famous birthdays etc. Nothing for today. They did one for international womens day, but not mens.

I asked Gemini why. Here was a response.

Potential for controversy: Some people believe that International Men's Day is a sexist holiday, and Google may want to avoid any potential controversy.

In otherwords. Fuck men. Fuck the "patriarchy". Men don't need support.

Watch some sports, Arnie movies, fuck a hot chick, play some games. pizza and cold drinks. Go bowling with the guys. Been doing that lately with some buddies and it doesn’t matter how good or bad you are. Just chill with the guys, order some shitty snack bar pizza and fries and drinks.

No need for recognition, toxic positivity or any of that BS.

At one of my former jobs, there was an annual "Women of Distinction" event, but of course, nothing similar was ever done for men.

And no one cared.

I was tempted to say something, but hey, I was making decent money there so. 😆

Same in my company. We have support networks for women, LGBTQ+, and a host of other groups, but nothing just for men or that caters to the problems men in general are facing today.

It's a real problem that the world doesn't want to address. Men get conflicting messages. They're told to open up more, told to drop the "toxic masculinity", but then society still expects them to act like men (pay for a meal, buy a women flowers, be the top earner in the household, but the protector) Not to mention it's socially acceptable to still body shame men "HAHAHAH You're short!" or "HAHAHA you don't have DICK. You have a babies finger holding a blueberry". You have women who are average looking that expect all guys to be tall, ripped and earn six figure sums. Men are told not to be men, but then have insane pressure to be the perfect man. Is it any wonder men are suffering from a mental health crisis?

Us bothers need to stick together and support each other, because nobody else will help us out.

I took this picture from AC: Odyssey in honour of yesterday. I've only played for a while so I don't know how the story develops, but I love traveling with my bros across Greece. Alexios is an incredibly fun character to play. I get wonderful 50's adventure movie masculinity vibes from the game.
