Okay, figure I'll just throw this out here because I can't seem to figure out what the problem is:
Basically, my desktop PC connected with wire to the router constantly gets a bad IP address after about an hour or two and I lose internet access. I can get it back easily and quickly by doing anything (troubleshooting, disabling and re-enabling the LAN, unplugging and plugging back in), but it just happens again in another hour or so.
Here is all the other info:
1. If I connect with the same wire directly to the modem instead of the router, I don't get the problem (but of course I lose access to wifi because I have to unplug the router from the modem, which I need for other devices)
2. I did all the turning off and on of routers and modems, no help, even had Optimum update the router firmware, did nothing
3. This same desktop PC acts fine under the similar circumstances at a different house (hardwired to router), however, that house has a different internet service provider
4. I had my router replaced by Optimum and the new one is doing the same thing, so it isn't faulty router hardware.
5. None of my devices connected wirelessly get bad ip addresses or lose internet access
I'm not sure what it could be, I can't pinpoint exactly what the problem is. I guess the only other thing could be the modem itself is faulty, but then why would the PC work fine when it is directly connected to it? So that suggests some kind of interference due to the router, but I had the router replaced. Could there be a specific issue with a router brand? Because mine was replaced with the same type...
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
