Basicaly a Boxter Coupe with a 294BHP 3.4L Flat Six....

This car is said to be faster around a race track than a standard 2WD 997 (Cayman has a better power to weight ratio)

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - German luxury carmaker Porsche says it will launch the new Cayman S sports coupe this year to be positioned between its Boxster S roadster and its entry-level 911 Carrera.

The hardtop two-seater will be based on the Boxster model line but endowed with more power, more room and a higher price. It will be outfitted with a mid-mounted 3.4 litre six-cylinder motor capable of 295 horsepower.

By comparison the Boxster S is powered by a 280 HP, 3.2 litre six-cylinder mid-mounted engine, while the 911 Carrera's six-cylinder rear-mounted 3.6 litre engine produces 325 HP.

The company declined to specify the launch date of the Cayman S, which it made clear was not the eagerly awaited fourth model line that Porsche(PSHG_p.DE: Quote, Profile, Research) is due to decide on by mid-year.

"Its name was inspired by a species of crocodile known for its quickness and tenacity," Porsche said on its website on Wednesday. "And like its namesake, the Cayman is both alluring and powerful."

Spy photos published in motoring magazines showing what looked to be a Boxster coupe had elicited concerns among analysts that Porsche Chief Executive Wendelin Wiedeking would go back on his word not to build a car priced lower than the Boxster.

It did not give a price for the Cayman, but said it will cost more than a Boxster and less than a 911.

Generally, convertibles are priced higher than hard-tops due in part to the added mechanism needed.

How the fck is this a Boxster Coupe and yet cost more than the convertible? Fck your word, give us a 30K Porsche! I'd freakin buy one without even thinking about it.

I don't know if I would feel right just settling for the in-betweener. Either I'd get a Boxster just because it's the only Porsche I could ever afford or I'd bite the bullet and get the 911.

this may be the best porsche in their lineup (good power, mid engine, more rigid)

it shouldnt cost more than a boxster though :(

seriously, i want to like this car (hardtop, more rigid boxster) but porsche is just flat out milking the public by pricing this more than the convertible. everybody has a pricing policy in reverse of this.

280hp is nice, but what's it weigh? Not that I can talk right now with my car in pieces, but if it weighs more than 2600lbs, then I'm kinda disappointed. The top will add some weight, but shouldn't be too bad by itself. Matter of fact, the hardtop might actually weigh in around the same given all the extra hardware the ragtop comes with. Anyway, it's definitely pretty, but massively overpriced. I'd take a S2000, Elise or Z4 over it at that price. PEACE.

My dog was murdered by a 3.5mm audio port and I will not rest until the standard is dead
As a Porsche snob, I must say that this is a dumb addition to the lineup. It better offer a significantly different driving experience than the Boxster and the 911.

there are also many practical korean sedans that don't cost 50 grand.

:lol

Why do we always get some clown to get in these threads that always has something to say about "practical" cars.

Do you think anyone looking at a Porsche gives a shit about fuel ecomony or cargo space? Really. I can't even fathom the idea of an individual that is between buying a Hyundai Assmaster and a Porsche 911.
