Introduction to MOBAs

What would DOTA players think of having smartcast implimented in DOTA?

If you don't know what it is, smartcast makes it so when you press your skill key, it targets whoever your mouse cursor is currently over. So instead of hitting a skill key, getting the target recticle then targeting your enemy, you just hover your mouse over them and hit the skill key.
It's implemented under the Quick Cast moniker. I liked it, but wound up switching back to manual cast when I realized my aim was getting... loose.

GET YOUR SHIT STRAIGHT

SMART CAST != QUICK CAST

smart cast : Select multiple SAME units where you cast one spell, ONLY one will cast the spell.
example:
OFF - starcraft broodwar: select 12 high templars, cast storm -> 12 storms are casted with one click
ON - starcraft 2: select 12 high templars, cast storm -> 1 storm is casted with one click

quick cast :

"Quick cast automatically casts the selected ability at (or towards) the current mouse cursor position"

Get that SC elitism out of here, this is the Lords Management thread.

Quick cast is a characteristic of some abilities in League of Legends. This was previously called "smart cast" but was renamed by Riot in version 3.12. Many players still refer to it as smart cast.

would you look at that. I had no idea.

Don't remember chen having that skilll of course I didn't play much of him. Did he always have it in Dota 1.... drawing a blank.

Of course it is lol
Good old Doto

Actually its linked to another spell, his nuke, you level up the nuke, you get the send back spell (Test of Faith (Teleport)), it used to be linked to the spell he used to take over creeps(Holy Persuasion) , but it was moved because it gave him too much versatility in the early game when he is sure to take Holy Persuasion as his first spell and get it to rank 3 in order to take over two creeps at once.

Edit: actually they switch over twice before, icefrog is wierd like that.

He always had it, it was a sub effect of Test of Faith.

Nothing irks me more than design tyrants. Like Austrian Economists, philosophical purity is more important than, y'know, being humble and following shit that's fun and works... even if one finds it irksome from the standpoint of one's mental spreadsheet of IMMUTABLE DESIGN LAWS.

Glarin' at you, David Kim.
Austrian economics is a pretty spot on equivalent.

i don't think so

league is it's own thing right now

i don't like rtses, i'm glad it's more of an action game

well no one cares to explain doto to me so i get bored
What would you like explained?

The fountain teleport was a sub-component of his existing RNG pure damage skill, was split into its own skill last October.

Woops, October 2012. Time flies.

Here's a topic that hasn't been covered (or has it?): RNG.

Riot hates RNG, the frog seems to like it. It does add some excitment, but can also lead to some bullshit.

Yay/Nay?

Yay.

Yea, particularly when there's pseudo-random distribution to knead out particularly gnarly interactions (ie "wts no bash in 20 swings").

Nay, even the frog seemed to make some changes against it.

Void still stuns every fourth hit now right? I remember him having 25% chance to stun in the dotes of old until icefrog changed him.

I don't like RNG, the less random shit deciding stuff in a competetive game the better.

No, that's Heroes of Newerth's Chronos. Void is still random.

DOTA2 uses pseudo-random numbers though, so it's rarely ever really bad like it is in Hearthstone.

For more "op" things, natures prophet has a global teleport that he can skill at level 1, and dazzle can cast tryndamere's Ult on people (which is also a normal spell)

I like RNG. Sure, it can be frustrating sometimes when it doesn't work out, but a number of RNG related things can be manipulated like Lone Druid bear's entangle thanks to psuedo-random distribution. And the cathartic feeling when you get that once in a lifetime crit on PA where you one shot a super tank is so so worth it.
