Oh, that's so tempting but as one of the few who don't like Out There, I'm afraid this wouldn't be up my alley either. And it looks even more daunting for the screenshots.
I'm not sure why everyone compares Out There to FTL because the only thing in common is that they are both set in space.
They are (IMHO) both great games and they work perfectly on iOS but:
1) Out There has a deliberate slow pace, it's about exploration, resource management, risk/reward chance and exploring the story with the different endings.
It's TURN BASED and there is no combat (well...not entirely true but let's just say this).
Each play through is different and you won't carry anything between play through.
The most similar game I can think of is King of Dragon Pass.
2) FTL is ALL ABOUT COMBAT, it's FRANTIC, story is almost non existent, you will unlock things that carry over.
IT'S REAL TIME with pause....basically the core of the game is rearranging power in real time to cope with various combat situations (like fire, hull breaches, invasions...), getting new parts, upgrading the ship to reach the final 'stage' and kill the boss....you will feel like Picard against a Klingon cruiser.
The interface in FTL is very well done and the port is excellent.
Not 'easy' or simple like in Out There, but it's a non issue imho, even in the most frantic part (that's the fun anyway).
