iOS Gaming January 2017 | Swipe Right Into The New Year

I got myself an iPad Air 2 in order to let my old iPad 2 rest.

I've been looking for Xcom on the appstore but it seems there is only the expansion. Should I buy and play that instead?

When the hell are we going to get binding of isaac on ios? I need it NOW!!! hahah

Thank you guys!!!

The App Store is just so fucking great. I search for The Quest and The Quest HD and everything else than that pops up as a search result. Which has now led to me looking for a direct link on the internet in order to find the game on the shop itself. Horrible.

By the way, an Outrun kind of racer in Highway Runners has been released for iPhone only. It seems to be really good but only have tilt controls, so no touch. I would have bought it immediately if it had been available for iPad.

There's also a Nintendogs look-a-like with a cat, that looks really great but again, I haven't tried it. The name of the game is Little Kitten and is featured on the App Store.

In other news, Rocketcat Games, has said that they'll focus entirely on the iOS version of Death Road to Canada once the latest PC update is complete. They'll put a halt to new PC updates until the mobile version is out. I could see this one release in February.

I just played some crown takers, it's decent if not a little simple. I thought I was gonna post that it's too easy, but then I died.

Seems like it'll take multiple runs to unlock more mercenaries which would then help you get further... standard roguelike progression I guess.

The srpg mechanics were fine, standard fare.

Art and music also fine.

Didn't see any f2p/micro transactions nonsense. But there is a DLC expansion that they kind of push a little bit aggressively, but it was easy to ignore.

Overall, I think it's fine. Not amazing, but also not bad in anyway I could tell after playing for about an hour or so.

Edit: this came off a little more negative then I wanted it to. I should add that I had fun, and I'll definitely play it some more to see what other mercs there are and how far I can get.

Hm interesting. I think I'll stick it on my wish list for a rainy day! Thanks for checking it out!

Searched for Highway Runners and it's been updated with touch controls. So yay

Hey guys. Kind of a dumb question but... what is the best way to transfer game save data from one device to the other?

I wish every game had iCloud...

Facebook.

It's a joke but you know I'm right at the same time.

Such a hassle you can't copy files via a PC anymore.

There's no real simple solution unless the game supports some cloud service or third party account solution.

Searched for Quest and it was near the top.

YMMV between regions I guess!

The Quest by Redshift

Look at Redshift for all their games.

Yeah I found it earlier through a direct link.

Have anyone bought and tried Little Kitten? I think I'm gonna buy it and let my niece play around with it tonight.

So the only solution is through iTunes?

Been a few years since I last used iTunes. Do I have to transfer all of the contents of my device to my PC so I can transfer to my other device or I can select individual apps?

On a scale of 1-10, how GLORIOUS! Is it?

Hopefully there isn't much to fix after the beta so it can release soon.

You can't transfer game saves via iTunes unless the game specifically supports iTunes file shares (in which case they show up as files inside iTunes when looking at your devices apps that you can drag/drop copy to your PC and vice versa, no syncing or anything needed).

The other option is to do a backup/restore type transfer but that's your entire device not singular games.

But if I backup my entire iPhone to my PC I can still transfer only the game to my iPad, right?

I need the combined knowledge of IOS Gaming GAF.

Since a few days i have the urge to play a trauma center/another code game. These were adventure/simulation/virtual novel games for the nds. I already have the ace attorney games, ghost trick was never a thing for me (don't know why). I thought with the touch based inputs ios should have something comparable but the only thing i can find is a game from 2012.

Sarah is missing an other "real" crime games are already played or on my phone.

Maybe someone knows a game that is comparable to these games.

Unfortunately no.
If I understood correctly you just got an iPad and want SOME games on it with save games from your iPhone.
The fastest way to do this is backup your iPhone.
Restore your iPad from the iPhone backup.
Then eventually delete what you don't need on iPad. (Of course I'm assuming iPad is new or you don't care you will delete everything in it restoring).

You can install selected apps but not with the saves.
Only way to transfer saves is doing a full restore (or if ALL games you are interested in support iTunes sharing or iCloud but I guess you already checked it).

And yes, it's super dumb and annoying.

To the point (being a 2 iOS devices user) that I gave up long ago and when I buy a non iCloud save game, I just decide where to play it (generally iPhone).

My iPad is full of games, just like my iPhone. There's this one game (Gemini Rue) that I want to transfer to my iPad because I'm switching my phone (Android).

I assume that if I restore my iPad with my iPhone backup all of my iPad games will be deleted, right?

Then my best solution would be to:

1) Backup my iPhone
2) Backup my iPad
3) Restore my iPhone data into my iPad (and lose my iPad data in the process)
4) Once I'm done with the game, restore back my iPad data into my iPad

Right?

This is dumbfounding. Honestly, I'm glad I'm switching to Android. I still have my iPad for the odd iOS exclusive. Plus, emulators.

Yes you are right, that will do as stupid as it sounds.
Are you sure Gemini Rue (which is an awesome game btw) doesn't support iTunes file sharing?
I somewhat remember transferring the save (the other way around, I started on iPad but preferred continuing on iPhone) but I could be wrong and maybe I just started it over.

I honestly don't know. I assume it doesn't since it doesn't seem like it is a common feature.

I will check when I get home though.

Thanks Pitta!

For the record, Google Play is FAR worse with searches and organization. And they're freaking Google.

Yup, tried to install a couple of games into a friends phone and is a mess compared to the AppStore, which always highlight the best games released on a week, some big sales, is way more curated, also tried to feature most of the good games... at least inmy country

Yeah, the store is a mess. I wonder if it's because there's way more junkware to deal with compared to the Appstore.

Those are hard to find on the Appstore but I can think of The Devil's Advocate right now. Will add more if I think of anything.

Oh, almost forgot about the Bar Oasis series, a favorite of mine that I quite loved. Don't know if its for everyone but it's got what you're looking for.

It's dumbfounding only due to lack of iCloud implementation of iTunes file sharing across the board, partly due to how Apple has handled for sure. There should be ways to make file sharing default imo.

Facebook is oddly one of the saving graces in cloud saving, it's free and largely unobtrusive to both implement as a dev and use as a consumer and its completely cross platform.

Shame not a lot of apps use it. Well, at least not apps and games that interest me.

I loved what they did in Crashlands. Now I'll buy the game on Android and use my old save file. Beautiful.

Roller coaster tycoon classic is running and controlling great on my ipad mini 2. I'd possibly even call it the definitive version of the game, but I'm not sure how it holds up late game yet. I still play the PC version regularly and may not be going back. It made me even more disappointed in Frontier's port of RCT3. Somebody at Atari knew what they were doing with the simple but effective changes to enhance the original experience.

Finished Machinarium, had to force myself to finish it, man it had some good ideas but man too many boring hard puzzles. Guess I'll get Botanicula next.

Shards of Memories is now available at $1.99. Here's a trailer.

It got 3 chapters. 91 puzzles. And your choices can change the course of the story, which means multiple endings.

I'm gonna buy this one and play it. It seems like something I could like going through.

The last levels of Lost Socks are tough. Very tough. Even with the minigun... also finished The Bug Butcher. The shooting was nice and felt tight, creature design and powerups are incredibly awesome, same for Panic Mode...
but the ending was not. Abrupt could be a word to describe it, no boss fight or anything. Just credits
.

Wont really be playing much on iOS barring a bit of HS this month until I go on holiday in under 2 weeks. Too much to review on PS4 this month. :/

When was Castaway Paradise released? I totally forgot about it, and I remember being hyped while it was in development.
Some point mid 2015 if I recall. Decent AC clone type game hampered by its fetch quests and business model to a severe degree. Wife played it a bunch until she came upon essentially a wall that screamed "HEY PAY MONEY TO BUILD THIS BRIDGE" and then she quit.

Crap... Now that I found out that KOTOR doesn't have cloud save I can't decide where to play it...

iPhone 7 plays better than my iPad 4... Controls a lot better and better graphics but screen super small.

I think I've made the biggest fail purchase of the year so far. Bought Little Kittens but I thought it would be more like Nintendogs or Eyepet where one can control the car and toys oneself. But this sure is aimed at kids between 3-5 years. My nieces got a little fun out of it though.

Apple yearly fee is 100$ and looks for everything in whats submitted to see if it fits in their company values. Google costs 25$ a year and they dont really care what devs submit. Thats why the AppStore is better. IMO.

I am thinking, once upon a time, we had weekly challenges and multiplayer sessions but it died out, but it could be fun if we played more games against each other as well.

Art test for a possible upcoming co-op game, let me know what you think! It'd be like a more over-the-top Wayward Souls

Not sure if many around here played flash games in the past but during the time I used to play them you could not get around Sonny, made by Krin, published by Armorgames in 2007.

Looks like Krin actually worked not only on Sonny 3 but also on a remaster of the first two games for iOS. Not only that but all "three" games get released together as Sonny in the coming weeks (scheduled "mid-January"). However I am a bit bummed out by the change of art style. Seems like they kept it during cut-scenes but during gameplay it lost its charm imo. Luckily gameplay is supposed to be unchanged.

Really looking forward to this!
