Wow, I was already impressed with it even before I saw that video, now I am just blown away! Like some have said, the iPhone doesn't do any one new thing, but the way it puts all its features together in a marvelously elegant and simple package is amazing.

I am still going to hold off until it gets a better camera and more storage, but i have to admit, it's getting harder and harder.

I'm in Canada with no firm release date for the iPhone, and as a guy who has never spent more than he's had to on a mobile phone... I watched the video and I hope the feeling of "want new toy now" fades.

That video demo is making my frothing demand increase like nobody's business. I'm ready to buy. BUY BUY BUY. Well, I'll buy unless the pricing of the plans are ridiculously expensive.

Woot, just one more week. I'm already sold on the list price and a monthly fee of $80 or less, so all I want to do is just waltz in to an Apple store next weekend and buy one. I hope they don't try to inflate demand with artificial shortages. You would think that such a willing customer ready and able to hand over $600+ would find an immediate supply waiting. Yet, I have this feeling that I won't be able to find one.... :lol

The pair of headphones it comes with are quite cool. I know it's nothing new but they see simple and functional. I like that they showed off viewing Word and PDF docs. That'll come in very handy (wonder if other formats'll be added later). I'm digging the turn-by-turn driving directions and traffic thing. That will be useful. I kinda wish they would've shown off the camera a little more, like show how you take a photo, but... that's a minor thing.

I hope the headphones are better than what came with the ROKR...those were terrible for phone calls.

Also, I find the claim that you'll be able to type better on the iPhone than a full-size Blackberry to be laughable.

I still want one, though.

So what does this 175$ cancellation fee thing mean? If I pay that can I just pop in my european SIM card
or what?

No, the phone will still be locked to AT&T. The cancellation fee is just if you want to keep the iPhone but cancel service with AT&T.

Until someone figures out a way to unlock the phone, there's no point owning one unless you just want it for iPod + wifi browser.

It makes every feature phones have had for years seem brand new. Thats what Apple does. And damn does it work.

Ha ha, it's true. I'm so weak, I was even impressed with the way you take the phone out of sleep mode... :(

Or deleting a voicemail/email. "You mean I just flick my finger across it, like I'm doin' a strikethrough? COOL!" Pathetic, huh?

Why is it pathetic? It's pretty cool. It's like saying, "Why are we so impressed with double-clicking an application, when for years we could just type ./application_name ?"

:lol The Artists quick link in the iPod portion of the phone is a silhouette of Bono!

I also like how the narrator refers to it as an "old fashioned" keypad.

I got the impression from that video that you can't have your own music as a ringtone, this can't be right can it?

I don't really need a new cellphone or a new iPod, but I just know I'm going to end up buying an iPhone anyway.. although I don't know if they've set any details for Europe yet (release, pricing etc.).

Well color me impressed. Yeah I agree with the naysayers that it doesnt do anything new that any other phone cant do. Just the way the integration works its awesome. I hear that you will not be able to use your songs as a ringtone..any truth to that? Also whats this I hear with paying per text message?

There's gotta be a way to do it. Supposedly when the iPhone launches there's gonna be a new section in iTunes/the iTMS--Ringtones. It's possible that within that you can drag/drop songs to be used as tones or buy new ones. I frankly didn't like what I heard on the few included tones they showed off...

yeah, the headphones were really cool, I was just thinking that I would like a way to pause without having to tap the screen, I still hope they put out a normal remote thing for it so I can connect better headphones.

also, I dont get why they didnt show off the Camera in the video, doesnt it have a camera?

Far as I know they ain't revealed jack about what you'll pay for voice/data plans on the iPhone. I highly doubt you'd have to pay per text message unless you get a plan that doesn't include it. Word is they'll announce pricing before the 29th but it's anybody's guess as to when. Probably Monday, but who the heck knows. This week they announced something new on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (well, the tour vid/new iPhone site). I get the feeling they'll keep the ball rolling.

Someone hacked the HTC Touch and provided the cabs files for the various frills. Quite impressive actually. I've installed them on the Mogul and now my device looks as cool as the iPhone (while being more productive). :)

i saw the video. It's a very slick primer for ironically a device which doesn't really need a manual, but it wasn't anything that really increased my desire for it. The thing that bugs me about the iPhone is that doesn't have the apps that a Windows Mobile, Palm OS, or Symbian device would have, and it's closed nature pretty much assures that that'll be the case for a while. If they had essentially made a next gen Newton + cell phone then i'd forgo my distaste for iTunes and other excuses jump on this. Seriously.

i really want to see Palm's inevitable update to the Treo line to combat this. i'm sure it won't be as slick, but i think that'd be a better upgrade for me as a current Palm user versus the iPhone.

I just noticed this new photo. It shows for the first time how you fast-forward, rewind, set shuffle and set repeat modes when playing music. I guess you just tap on the cover art and the scroll bar appears at the top.

I find it astounishing that Apple is always able to add that extra touch to their products that makes people go whoaaah! I have no doubt there are some very capable cell phones out there from SE, Nokia and the likes, but they're no iPhones, that's for sure!

That's my contribution to this thread. :P

Their feature innovations are a little lacking but one thing nobody can ever take away from them is their logic-driven interface design...their interfaces always seem very thought out and simple (As possible).

Apple have put up a new 25 minute guided tour video of the iPhone:

EDIT: :lol , sorry, just realized how LTTP I am.

Anyway, just watched the vid, and what boggles my mind is the utter beauty, fluidity, user-friendliness, and logical nature of the interface. It really does make the interface of every other device, even besides phones, seem broken and ridiculously outdated. Literally every pixel, and every animation, seems meticulously thought-out, and what I would call perfect. Bravo Apple, Bravo.

The only thing that really remains to be seen is how well the phone works in real-world conditions. It looks great in the video but how's it fare when it has to use EDGE (and not wifi) for Net access. Still many unanswered questions but man, can't wait for next week. They better have enough of them available (I'm hoping the 3 mil. number is correct).

The video looks great. I am going to pick this up for my father.....

I just bought the Cingluar 8525 (Hermes) and downloaded Google Maps. The IPhone seems to basically have all the similar functionality as mine but cleans things up a bit and makes it easier to use. With my 4g card though, I don't think I would need to switch to the IPhone, (using i.e. sucks on mobile but I also have Deepfish and the new Opera browsers which basically rip off Safari :lol. All the other functionality seems to be the same but slicker though.....

Was it just me missing it, or did they never get around to showing how the camera performed in that long demo vid?

Can't wait till the 29th. I'm pretty sure that there are other really cool features about the iPhone that are still not being talked about much...

My contract with Verizon JUST ran out like 4 days ago, my 2 year contract awesomeness. I can't be stuck into another one - but I do like the iPhone, it's just a tad too expensive WITH a contract for me...plus I KNOW I'll drop it :(

Wait it doesn't come with wireless headphones?

There were some photos tagged as taken by an iPhone on Flickr a while ago.

They seemed pretty good and held up well against my SE K800, which is very good for a camera phone.

I'm so tempted to get this thing when it's released, but i know better. I'm a patient man.

Anyway, have they talked about the durability of iPhone? I'm worried that the screen, since it's glass, will get damaged easily.

Wow.

That video shows just how incredible the device is.

The integration of phone, web, contacts, and addresses throughout every app is pretty special. Being able to use the slider to move through voice mail is going to be a god send as well. And they kept the surprise of PDF/Word/Excel viewing, which is key for me as I live in those docs.

Tthe music player integration into receiving a call, with the designed headset is brilliant.

I almost forgot how you can continue use your phone for whatever while you're on the call by pressing home and then going on to another app.

I was conviced before, but now it seems like a complete no brainer. It's the communicator I've been waiting for years for.

If anyone thinks that any phone now or soon to be on the market has any resemblance to the style and functionality of this device, you're just fooling yourself.

Yes, it's only a 2.5G phone, has limited space, is expensive, and won't have the other apps of the other smartphones, but you know what...

It doesn't matter. (to me)

Uhm, my Treo loads PDFs, Word and Excel docs. Right from an SD, too. I can use other applications while on the phone. I can tap on a person's name and get their photo, address, details and pick a number out. I can play divx/xvid files natively without conversion. If I play an mp3 in ANY Mp3 player application (RealPlayer comes included, but there are others) it has album art, playlist support, and even plays in the background if I use other applications. (And is less than half the price)

It really sounds like I should do a youtube video showing what current phones can do, as it seems like a lot of people are misguided again. This is just as bad as the Sony PR guy saying the PS3 is better than the Wii because it can browse photos.

The ONLY thing iPhone has is the special voicemail which isn't a big deal for me since I rarely have more than 2.

No one is arguing that the iPhone does anything new. (It doesn't outside of the voicemail app.) It's just Apple's presentation, integration and marketing savvy that's getting everyone all hot and bothered.

But I can't wait for the reactions to the pricing plans. Who wants to start a pool on how much the iPhone plan will cost per month (before taxes and fees, those vary by state.)?

Please do, then we'll compare it to the video released. Of course, most of us have never used smartphones and can't look on the internet to see what features they have, so we're likely deserving of your condescending tone about how misguided we are.

I've had a Treo for quite a while and I'm well aware of what it can do. It doesn't hold a candle to the integration or user experience of the iPhone, IMHO.

I was just explaining the functionality is all duplicated. As for screen resolution and fluidity of the animations, that's beautiful. The style is unmatched.

Yeah, you make that Youtube video of yours. Im sure it will be fantastic. And yeah, Im sure all of us that are so impressed with the iPhone have never touched other smartphones and the like. Did you really click on this thread to make that asinine comparison? Give me a damn break.

it is an awesome device... but i cant purchase any phone without a slide-out qwerty keypad ever again...i am htc's loyal bitch :lol
