Hey - were you part of DCharlie's wedding video sp0rsk? I made sure that was there - we all think that's the coolest thing we'd ever seen.

Actually I think the wedding happened before I got here, or around the time I got here. So no.

Just came back from the 5th Avenue store... I feel sorry for the fools who actually waited days in the NYC rain + sweltering heat (ha ha); me and my bro arrived at 7:30, got on the back of the line, and walked out with two 8GB units right before 8pm :D There were a sh!t-ton of people still getting on the line and a similar number leaving the store with phones in tow; I think they must've had like 2000 units or something. Props to Apple for doing this launch the right way.

BTW, called some AT&T stores on the way; sold out by 7pm.

Stopped by my local AT&T store @ 8:00PM. They had ~150 in stock and they were long gone.

Interestingly, the staff were taking folks names (and money??) and guaranteeing them a new unit on ~Tuesday. They said, whatever orders they were taking now were going to get units before Apple ships any online.

Not so sure that's true, but it's what was said.

Apparently, there were over 150 people in line.

This was in Toms River, NJ. Not exactly a bustling metropolis, but a decent sized town.

yeah, the people who waited in line for days were stupid. I got there earlier than you, but only at around 1? 2? People were handing out so much random free shit - I have a bag full of CD's, drinks, fans, blindfolds(?), socks(??), magazines, etc.

Drove by AT&T store here on my way home from the store and there was only 12-15 people in line. I'm here on the west coast so they still have another 10-15 minutes until 6pm. No idea how many they got, but still surprised there wasn't more people in line.

I'd love to get one, but am waiting for them to open it up to other carriers and their 3rd/4th gen models....this way they get the bugs out and I'm not locked into their own carrier.

I only got a flyer or two :(

I'm glad I decided to get it at the 5th Ave flagship. While I was waiting for the pretty girl to bring out our phones, I looked over to the register right beside me and was startled to see some dude wearing only the (very large) head of a mascot suit casually ordering his iPhone :lol Cool experience!

Wow, I've been messing with this thing for 2 ****ing hours now and it's just...wow. Quite honestly the best phone ever. Totally lives up to the hype..and price.

Apple's website is taking a dumb. I placed an order and got to the processing page, and it couldn't open the final page. Checking the Orders page though and it looks like I've got one on the way, however I noticed that Apple's website is saying "2-4 weeks" which is not at all what I had read this week leading up to the launch. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

No no no, you're not supposed to be liking it. You're supposed to be helping us all resist a $600 phone. :(

I didn't notice that the ship time would be 2-4 weeks before I bought it through the online store, oops. So I'm waiting for it to finish processing so I can cancel it. I think I'll be able to find one tomorrow in a retail store.

The way things looked around here in Austin, TX there weren't going to be any left in retails stores. I hope you can find one, but I don't have the same confidence. Guess I'll just have to wait.

:lol there's a few going for 1500 on ebay

Guy next to me in line had 2 sold for 1200 each by 2 pm. Ebay took his auctions down...after they were already bought out and he was paid.

I got one too,I'm hoping it doesnt take that long.

Oh well :(

That bluetooth headset looks really cool. It auto-pairs to the phone by plugging it into the dual dock at the same time as the phone. Also, the phone screen shows the battery meter of the headset as it charges.

Neat. I wonder how the sound quality is...

Awesome, I'm on cvxfreak's iPhone, and like every other real life photo, I'm cut off.

Have you tried plying movies on it? Would you consider this a viable porn on the go device?

Camped out from 1:30 to launch at the Pacific Place Cingular/AT&T store.

About 100 people in line. The U-District Apple Store had about 300.

Fantastic, I can't even install Itunes 7.3 on Vista. It bombs out during the Quicktime update, and now I can't uninstall or install either itunes or QT. Good job...

The flagship store in Chicago (Michigan Ave.), supposedly got in a crap-ton of phones. They just interviewed the manager on the local Chicago 10pm newscast and he stated that they will have as many as customers demandt for at least tonight, and they will remain open until Midnight.

I worked at the Abercrombie there!!!!

The people in that apple store were so nice and this girl gave me a free pair of headphones when I told her mine were broken, and she said you'll hook me up at A&F right? I was like uh how did you know I worked there? - she was like I smell it on you :lol

That was my memorable one moment in the apple store - and there is that lady who tries to con everyone to apply to be a model, she def attempted to get you if you were over there cvx...

IPHONE IMPRESSONS PAPANGUS - are you dissapointed? Is it worth the hype? TELL ME.

I got into the AT&T line by accident! :lol

Since this is my first day in the east coast ever (except for a layover at Dulles in 1997) I ran for the first queue I saw (came in through Macy's). Still managed to get one with no hitches though.

The iPhone rocks. The browser works so well and it's such a slick, solid device. Although, there doesn't seem to be any way to manage music aside from playlists. Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

Still waiting for activation. AT&T successfully deactivated the SIM card on my old phone, they just haven't gotten around to activating the iPhone. The website gives a phone number to call, which would undoubtedly be more helpful if I had a working phone.

I have an iphone question...

As a current Verizon wireless customer living in NYC, when my contract is up in October, and if I want to switch to AT&T to get the iphone, can I carry my number over? Is that possible with the iphone? Or do I need to get a whole new cel number?

I am hoping that perhaps by August/Sept/Oct frame, the iphone might go down in price a little ( I DOUBT IT) and then I would switch to AT&T...

Also, anyone in NYC (Staten Island area to be exact) how is the AT&T service? Is it decent?

Well the AT&T store in West Caldwell NJ was a ****ing joke, they only got 30 phones (and some of those were 4GB of course, which I didn't want). The thing that pisses me of the most is they were doing headcounts and knew they didn't have enough, but they wouldn't say so until they were very close to running out. After she said they only had three 4GB phones left, it was hilarious to see all the people running to their cars to get to another store ASAP.

I ended up buying it at Apple Store Short Hills NJ - there was a ton of people there and huge lines but they had plenty to go around. Much nicer employees there too who were clapping and talking to people on the lines and stuff. It was awesome too cause a bunch of people who I was waiting in line with at the AT&T store were also with me there. That store was such an awesome shopping experience, different lines for cash and credit, they had the phones already put in a nice bag, and some little handheld cash register things where they email you the receipt. In and out in like 5 minutes. I should've went there to begin with.

It was all worth it though, the phone is freaking amazing. Took only 10 minutes total to go through all the activation steps and be set up. The attention to detail is insane, like when you get a phone call and the music fades out and then pauses and resumes after you end the call. And it's just so freaking cool to be using all the touch screen stuff and rotating the phone and having it automatically change views and whatnot. If you were impressed by the video demos it's a whole different thing using it. Apple really paid attention to everything that was wrong with phones and delivered something special. So glad to have one :D

You can transfer you number over from other services, same as any other phone. It may take a couple days according to the documentation.

Hey are there any discounts if you sign up for a 2yr plan? Or does the phone still cost $499 and $599?
That's the ONLY way to get the phone. You must sign up for a two-year contract (even if you already have a contract with AT&T, though they will excuse the remaining months on your existing contract).
