Yea it seems it partially worked, on wifi I always get it properly, mostly on the wifi at my house. But really anywhere on 3G it's messed up. Ever since 3.0 I've had so many dropped calls and shitty reception. It's annoying but I have not that much control over the situation.

Not sure if I'm allowed to ask this, but the app is free so how could it matter?
I really want to download the Loseit! app but I live in Australia so the App Store is being a dick.
Could some kind soul either chuck the .ipa file on Rapidshare or something for me to download or tell me if there is a work around to download it?
I wouldn't ask if this if it were a paid app, but its free and and I want it on my iPhone! Looks so useful.

-Change the store in iTunes to the US one.
-Search for Lose it!
-Try to download it, and you'll be prompt to create a US account, and since the app is free there's no need for a CC, just a fake address IIRC.

And pronto, you'll have an Aussie and a US account. You can change between them either on iTunes or on the iPhone.

Is the Iphone 3GS worth the extra $100? Might go and buy an iphone tomorrow(with 2 year plan) for $100. Which I think is a good deal.

I have a 3G and it is sluggish. I would gladly pay $100 if I could to upgrade to the 3GS, the extra speed alone would be worth it, IMO.

Hi guys.

So I just lost my iphone 3g on Friday. Left it in a cafe. Now I do have insurance, but..

the insurance is with my bank account (fee-paying account), but I was supposed to register the damn phone, something I neglected to do, until Friday. The catch is one must wait 21 days after registration to make a claim. Now I have been paying for this fee-paying bank account for over 6 months, so it's not really insurance scam. But I was going to make a claim in like 30 or so days. What should I do in the meantime? Will O2 (my provider) know if I order a new sim, and put it into an old phone.

PS - I haven't told anyone my phone got lost. I checked up on my mobile me account, the phone was disconnected within 1 hour, and it wasn't ringing. So the thief has removed the sim. I don't want to block my sim in case it interferes with my claim. And the iPhone was pin locked. So I am quite sure they will not make calls from my sim.

Absolutely in so many ways, and it'll only be more apparent as some 3GS exclusive apps/games are released.

Nope, but a GMail app by a third party just got approved today: http://www.tiveriasapps.com/ourapps.php

Apple has no consistency on this. They don't let you release a phone-related app because it "duplicates functionality", but feel free to replace the Mail app for a system already supported by Mail.app

I agree there's little consistency but, in this case, the Gpush app is not a mail client. it is a push service that notifies you of gmail instantly but does not show mail or duplicate any functionality of the mail app.

i plan to pick it up when it's back in the store, actually. 99 cents for push notification of gmail? sold.

Google Voice has much bigger implications. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you could take the phone, address book, and SMS app and move them to the back page, drop the GV app into the dock and never miss a beat. That doesn't sound like a big deal in and of itself, but it opens up the possibility of usurping the functionality built into the OS by an application. Google could, in effect, build out a new OS inside the old one. I can see why Apple would have a problem with that.

Umm, help!

My iPhone is possessed by demons. All the sudden my music turned off by itself, then on again, and now is stuck on a loop turning on and off randomly for the last half hour, I turned the iPhone off and then rebooted, but it's still happening. I installed iStat last night and cleared memory a few times... could this be related? :(

Read it Later or Instapaper? ReaditLater's integration with Firefox (and Google Reader) is very compelling and the 'tap to save' bookmarklet is nice touch for MobileSafari. Instapaper, on the other hand, has, er, tilt to scroll (also integration with NetNewsWire on the Mac)? But I've bought Instapaper pro ($10) for the iPhone--a long time ago--while the pro ReaditLater app will cost a further $3.

Does anybody use and can make a recommendation?

I've had iStat do a few weird things on me, but nothing permanent.

Your issue sounds more like something is triggering the remote. Do you have headphones on? Try taking them out and blowing some air (not spit) into the headphone socket.

Also, T-mobiles Side Kick Prepaid plan has been confirmed to have been blocked for iPhones using EDGE. At he moment, a workaround is to use a vpn, as they appear to be blocking ports (email and Skype still work).

While T-Mobile UK is supplying iPhones to high value customers. Are they trying to steer you to another data plan or just kick you off the network completely?

I'm guessing that T-mobile isn't the exclusive carrier for iPhones in UK?

All this locked to carrier business is stupid. I know it's meant to be an incentive product to have you join the company, but in practice, it just results in a mini-monopoly for the product. AT&T hold the iPhone hostage, while pretty much charging whatever they want. I know Apple had to side with someone, but that just highlights the ineffectiveness of how this industry is run.

Imagine the iPhone were simply sold as an open phone for any carrier? Apple sales would be through the roof (visual voicemail, as cool as it is, didn't turn out to be anything near a killer app - many iPhone users live without it). Carriers will then actually compete for customers and provide cheaper prices, and possibly better service.

T-mobile try to steer us to a different service, specifically to activate a plan, and get a smart phone data pack. It amounts to around $50. For that price I could NEARLY just join AT&T and at least get 3G.

eucalyptus looks like the most amazing non-Eink reader i've ever seen...i know they spend a lot of time getting the current library formatted to look perfect and that's why you can't use your own books, but the day they start selling current ebooks that look like that will be so wonderful.

i think i'm gonna get a 32gb on thursday, and i know i'm going to jailbreak...just wanted to hear which apps you guys install straight away without thinking, your favorite and most necessary apps after jailbreaking...

Hey guys!

I'm having issue with some App when I synched them on Itunes.

So, I downloaded some App from the Appstore on the Iphone, and when I synched them with my computer, the app just load, and then go back to the Iphone.

Is it normal? How do I fix that?

Looking at my phone bill I realise that being on a 'cap' plan does not mean what I thought it did. ie It doesnt stop giving me service when I reach the limit. So I had a $20 lesson in how phone plans actually work thanks to Facebook use.
So I now have the MobileUsage app so I know how much I'm using but the thing is if I cap it I might accidently be on 3G without noticing.
Other than turning 3G off is there a Cydia app or something that lets you *not* connect to your phone providers internet service and only wifi?
I mean Airplane mode could work but then I cannot text and take calls etc.

I only have 100meg to use and its pretty much $1 per meg I use when I'm over if not more.

There's a built in meter. Note, does that 100 meg mean download or upload and download?

I'm sure there are preferences for Jailbroken phones that allow selective turning off of radio.

Also note that small apps that have ads, location aware apps (that use GPS - because of the assist) will all chew a bit of data.

Hey QQ for everyone in regards to Safari on the iPhone.

I know that if I am at the bottom of the webpage and I want to get back to the top, I just touch the top of the screen and it basically does a "page up", but what I want to know is if there is way to do a page down? Or get to the end of the webpage without having to scroll and scroll and scroll....

Thanks

You zoom all the way out and scroll down about 2 times, then zoom back in.

I'm with optus so I'll just assume it's for both, doesn't sound like them to be generous like that.
So any of idea what I should look for? I have no idea where to start.

I have no idea myself. I don't keep up with the jailbreak scene. I thought Boss preferences and/or sbsetttings probably gives you an option.

So guys, I want to get an app that not only saves me all passwords etc, but even some pictures (credit cards, other documents, etc).

1password is pretty popular, does it do that?

This makes no sense.
It really does, though. I never felt fully confident with my phone while it was jailbroken. It acted strange at times and it was more hassle than it was worth. I'm glad 3.0 fixed my issues because now I just get to be brainless about the whole thing. I guess if you're someone that just has to tweak everything then fine, but sticking to the official is so much better as far as I'm concerned.

1password won't save pictures of the credit cards (no camera support) but it does have a wallet area to store credit card and bank account numbers. it also has an area for secure notes.

if you want to take pics of stuff, you'll need to look for a different app.

hmm thanks! I don't want to take pictures of the documents with the iPhone, since I already have them scanned and stored in my computer but if it doesn't save pictures then 1p is not the end-all safe solution I was looking for.

So how terrible is the AT&T service? I have heard some horror stories and am considering getting an iphone. Anyone have any wisdom they would like to share?

depends on where you are. I rarely ever drop below 4 bars. never had a problem with connection

It all depends on where you live. I live in Minneapolis and haven't had any problems, but if you live in an area with a high iPhone population like San Fransisco you'll probably run into problems.

I very rarely have a problem with AT&T. I've had them for the past few years and really don't have much to complain about. Very few dropped calls, I typically get good service wherever I go, and no surprises on the monthly bills.

what's the short list for greatest jailbreak-only apps? what are the first ones you guys would install if you had a new phone?

I'm running my iPhone 3G through Windows Vista. What kind of program do I need to sync my notes off of my phone onto my computer with?
As far as I'm aware it's not so friendly with anything other than mail, but I've heard Outlook works.

Are the features of an iphone enough in themselves to justify the price, even if i dont use it that often to phone and text or should i just get an ipod touch. Apart from the camera/video and calling/texting ability, what else can the iphone do that the ipod touch cant.
