AT&T and Apple Announce Simple, Affordable Service Plans for iPhone
All Plans Include Unlimited Data & Visual Voicemail

ATLANTA and CUPERTINO, California—June 26, 2007—AT&T Inc. and Apple® today announced three simple, affordable service plans for iPhone™ which start at just $59.99 per month. All three plans include unlimited data, Visual Voicemail, 200 SMS text messages, roll-over minutes and unlimited mobile-to-mobile calling. With everything else already included, iPhone customers can easily choose the plan that’s right for them based on the amount of voice minutes they plan to use each month. In addition, iPhone customers can choose from any of AT&T’s standard service plans.

“AT&T has the largest voice and data network in America, the largest mobile-to-mobile calling community and the fewest dropped calls,” said Randall Stephenson, chairman and CEO, AT&T. “AT&T has invested more than 16 billion dollars in its wireless network between 2005 and 2007, and iPhone customers will enjoy the best voice and data network in the nation.”

“We want to make choosing a service plan simple and easy, so every plan includes unlimited data with direct Internet access, along with Visual Voicemail and a host of other goodies,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We think these three plans give customers the flexibility to experience all of iPhone’s revolutionary features at affordable and competitive prices.”

All iPhone plans include Visual Voicemail, an industry first, which allows consumers to see a listing of their voicemails, decide which messages to listen to, then go directly to those messages without listening to previous messages. Just like email, Visual Voicemail on iPhone enables users to immediately and randomly access the messages that interest them most. Unlike most wireless plans that charge additional fees for new features, there are no additional fees for Visual Voicemail.

iPhone introduces an entirely new user interface based on a revolutionary multi-touch display and pioneering new software that allows users to control iPhone with just a tap, flick or pinch of their fingers. iPhone combines three products into one small and lightweight handheld device—a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod®, and the Internet in your pocket with best-ever applications on a mobile phone for email, web browsing and maps. iPhone ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, which completely redefines what users can do on their mobile phones.

Pricing & Availability
iPhone goes on sale at 6:00 p.m. (local time) on Friday, June 29 and will be sold in the US through Apple’s retail and online stores and AT&T retail stores. iPhone will be available in a 4GB model for $499 (US) and an 8GB model for $599 (US), and will work with either a PC or Mac®. All iPhone monthly service plans are available for individuals and families and are based on a new two-year service agreement with AT&T. Individual plans are priced at $59.99 for 450 minutes, $79.99 for 900 minutes and $99.99 for 1,350 minutes. All plans include unlimited data (email and web), Visual Voicemail, 200 SMS text messages, roll over minutes and unlimited mobile-to-mobile and a one-time activation fee of $36. Family plans are also available.

$59.99 HOLY COW. That's what I'm looking for. 1 price, not two for data & the phone. makes sense as there's no point to having seperate plans when you have to have the unlimited data.

It's essentially they're $39.99 plan with a $20.00 unlimited data added.

With how many posts you have in this damn thread, you better be getting one. :-/

I've said all along that I want one pending the plan. Looks like we're going to get that info today, so I'll know if I wait until Friday or go pick up a Helio Ocean today.

That $60 plan is exactly what I want. I'm sold. I'll be at the store on Friday. :D

They've also announced something that we essentially new already.

Activation will be through iTunes.

Apple and AT&T Announce iTunes Activation and Sync for iPhone
Already Familiar to Tens of Millions of iPod Users

CUPERTINO, California and ATLANTA—June 26, 2007—Apple® and AT&T Inc. today announced that iPhone™ users will be able to activate their new iPhones using Apple’s popular iTunes® software running on a PC or Mac® computer in the comfort and privacy of their own home or office, without having to wait in a store while their phone is activated. Activating iPhone takes only minutes as iTunes guides the user through simple steps to choose their service plan, authorize their credit and activate their iPhone. Once iPhone is activated, users can then easily sync all of their phone numbers and other contact information, calendars, email accounts, web browser bookmarks, music, photos, podcasts, TV shows and movies just like they do when they sync their iPods with iTunes.

“Users will be able to activate their new iPhone in the comfort and privacy of their own home or office, without having to wait in a store while their phone is activated,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “There are tens of millions of people in the US who already know how to sync their iPods with iTunes, and syncing their new iPhone with iTunes works the same way.”

“iPhone’s user-driven activation is another example of how AT&T and Apple have partnered to bring innovative new features to our customers,” said Randall Stephenson, chairman and CEO, AT&T. “iPhone’s innovative activation and sync is just one example of how this is going to be a real industry game-changer.”

System Requirements
iPhone activation requires an Internet connection; an iTunes Store account or a major credit card; a valid Social Security number (as required by AT&T); the latest version of iTunes available at www.itunes.com and a PC or Mac with a USB 2.0 port and one of the following operating systems: Mac OS® X v10.4.10 or later; Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later; or Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise or Ultimate Edition. iPhone requires a new two-year AT&T service plan. Customers with existing AT&T accounts will have the option of keeping their existing phone number and upgrading their account to work with iPhone. See separate iPhone Service Plan press release for further details.

My current plan with Sprint is $35 for 300 minutes, no text messages included (I don't use it THAT much), no data. So $59.99 for an extra 150 minutes, free mobile-to-mobile, 200 text messages, unlimited data...yeah, I'd say that's worth it to me. So much for those who expected to get the phone without a data plan to just use Wi-Fi.

Also, you activate at home through iTunes. Helllooooooo ebayers. :'(

Damnit! Still no word on whether you can just renew your current plan for two years or not. I'm paying 29.99 for 1000 minutes. I don't want to lose that.

So what's left? No information about adding ringtones, and I see the tab for ringtones has been removed from the sync menu. I also wonder about spam filtering. I get quite a bit of spam on my .mac account. In the mail.app I have it set up pretty well so it detects Junk, but will iPhone detect those settings? Or am I in for a situation where it's gonna alert me on every email including the crap? :'(

I'm a bit behind on the pricing but is the $499 and $599 prices with or without the subsidization with the contracts?

Neither, technically. That is the cost of the phone with the contract, but I don't think Apple looks at it as a subsidy though. ;)

the preview video only showed a brief list of preset ringtones, and didn't go into any further detail.

If they are dumb, they'll bend to AT&T and restrict it so you can't use your music for ringtones. Perhaps even dumber they might sell ringtones.

If they do that, they deserve all the shit they'll get for it.

If that is the case I don't feel so bad about not getting an iPhone, in fact, the combination of the price, EDGE speeds, undiscussed camera (probably cause it's not that hot) and this alleged lack of ring tones has considerably dampened my enthusiasm for this device.

Meh my sprint plan blows that away. :)

- 500 minutes
- Unlimited Sprint Vision or Power Vision (Vision for Vision phones, Power Vision for Power Vision phones)
- Unlimited Mobile to Mobile
- Unlimited Sprint Picture Mail
- unlimited text messages
- Unlimited Nights & Weekends (starting at 7pm)
- Nationwide Long Distance
- Voice Mail
- Caller ID
- Call Waiting
- Numeric Paging
- Three-Way Calling

$30 :)

Super iPhone COMING. :lol

The video shows an iPhone capacity of 80GB (well ~75GB)

Ha! Yeah it does. Wonder how that got slipped in there. Oops. Why'd they use a mock-up to create the video? The iPhone info window still says it's 7.27 GB while the space bar at the bottom shows it's 80GB.

Now I need to find out how much to add another phone to the plan is (that's not an iPhone). And will I get a nice price on that handset.

This is awesome. Genius move by Apple and AT&T. This is a brilliant plan that will definitely get people switching. I hope this plan will work when the inevitable 3G edition hits :D

I don't know dude. Alot of smartphone people left GSM for the EVDO rev A love of Sprint and Verizon. I'm not sure those people will be willing to step down to EDGE speeds, no matter the phone....

I like how basically I just won a bet with a friend who thought there'd be no way they'd let you activate the iPhone at home using iTunes. TAKE THAT, beyotch! I think this cements that I'll be ordering online though. I could buy at a store on Friday but I'd be nowhere near my home mac.

I wonder how many times you'd have to charge the thing a day to actually use that 1350 minute plan... *runs again*

Wow, excellent deal on the family plans!

$79.99 a month for a family plan with unlimited data, 700 rollover minutes, unlimited night and weekends and unlimited mobile-to-mobile? Sold. I pay $80 a month right now for 700 minutes on a family plan with Verizon with ZERO data and no rollover of minutes.

Soon as my contract with Verizon is up this fall, I am bailing for AT&T and 2 iPhones for my wife and I.

And I can now get a 15% service discount with AT&T through work, w00p! :D

Whoa, the $60 is basically what i'd be paying with Cingular for the same thing, less 1300 text messages. Considering the fact that you can send emails as texts, no big deal.

i also like the fact that AT&T is keeping rollover minutes. Your average 9-to-5 worker who doesn't use a cell for work can easily get by on the basic calling plan with rollover minutes. i've got something like 1600 minutes after six months of being with Cingular.

True. EVDO in action real world is much faster than I ever would've expected for a cellular wireless data service. The iPhone is highly desireable as-is, so the game is likely to make sure that the service (at least pricing-wise) gets out of the way.

Just when I thought I wasn't going to be able to afford this thing on a monthly basis these ****s come out and announce a plan for $60 with unlimited data. With the amount of calls and text messages I make that price is ****ing ace. Damn you Apple, why does the iPhone plan have to be the only amazingly affordable product you offer!?

Woo! What a relief. I had been expecting to get anally raped by high-priced plans but thankfully AT&T was gentle. Great plans! :D

Also, the "activate through iTunes" from home is genius. No more waiting 20 minutes in the store for someone to help you activate your phone!

I agree on the plans and activation.

In fact, the activation process, assuming it all goes well, is a pretty great idea. I'm surprised no one has thought if it before. Now Apple and AT&T can sell a billion of these things online and just ship them to customers with no hassle and let them set up their own phones. I just hope that come Friday it all works according to plan. I can seem some pretty swamped activation servers.

Plus, I'll be porting my number over from Verizon, so I can also see AT&T competitors getting slammed with a bunch of numbers to port and accounts to close. :)

Indeed. And it will make things go a whole lot smoother on Friday. They only have to ring people up.

So with a 2 year agreement, how is the phone?

Same here. I already pay $40 a month for less features so an extra $20 is nothing. Here's hoping for no scalpers! :lol

Well it looks like the other partners and our account exec are all getting iphones on friday. Conform? or just go spend the $600 on something else cool. :lol

i definitely approve of these plans.

it's got great battery life, so no matter how much you use it, chances are you'll only have to charge it over night while you sleep.

So what if im already in a plan with cingular (apart of a family plan) what exactly do i have to do if my contract doesn't expire for a few months?

apparently all you do is just add the iPhone to your current plan.
