Damn you guys sure make this tempting. I really should hold out for second gen but you guys are making it hard. Even worse, my wife keeps telling me to buy one and I keep telling her that I need to wait. What kind of role reversal is that?

Unless they threw them out, they previously offered tiered coverage plans. Local, Regional, and Nationwide ...

The rates changed based on where you where, and where you were calling.
Wow. They also now have these motorized carriages and magic boxes into which moving images can be beamed right into your home; you should check them out.

:lol

I've been using a roll-over plan for years ... so I haven't looked into any of their other plans since way back when.

Just wanted to make sure they weren't pulling a fast one.

I'm gonna go back to watching Barney Miller on my 13" B&W GE now >_<

Seems like Apple is partnering with T-Mobile Europe for iPhone launch there:

http://my.ocworkbench.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=416789#post416789

November1 for 450€ in Germany.

Thats disappointing as T-Mobile doesn't have the network like Vodafone does. Its going to really limit iPhone audience in Europe as Vodafone is the major player in nearly every European country.
No iPhone for Ireland then as were 3G only.

Wow, that's about $900. Our Eurotrash brethren get screwed once again.

Well, its not yet clear whether it will be 3G or EDGE unit.

In the spirit of iPhonery...

Just found these browsing around Apple's download site. Set up a few apps and it actually mapped to my current dock really well.

icons:

My new Dock:
iPhoneDock.png

The apps I mapped them to are left-to-right: Finder (to hard to get rid of on MacTels..), Safari, iChat/x, Skype, iTunes, Download to Here (Tomato Torrent Script), and then webloc links to Gmail and Google Maps, then a link to my WD NAS.

Where did you find the Leopard wallpaper?

Google around for it, there's an entire project out there devoted to trying to simulate the new leopard background (only thing not done yet is a realistic stack and a 3D dock).

Sorry, I wasn't specific enough.

During that whole active day, the iPhone was used in iPod mode for some hours and mixed in with Safari for a bit, made a few phone calls, sent a couple of text messages, and spent some time in sleep mode. It was 13 hours of a combination of all the above, occasionally with them overlapping each other, until the battery died.

That makes me feel better. Still hoping for better battery though. I'm getting about 4 hours of real use- talk, web, etc. I have WI FI off and brightness way down.

Wow. I'm getting far better than that. Did you condition the battery? I didn't see anything in the instructions, but I did it none the less. When I set up my iPhone I let it charge completely before I used it at all. Once it was full charged, I let it drain down completely before recharging it again over night. Generally a good idea to go through that process the first charge or two, to condition the battery properly.

I'm plugging in for a charge right now after 2 days - it was 8 and a half hours usage and 38 hours standby on the Settings->Usage panel. That said, 2 hours were iPod usage on the plane, which I imagine is as low-power as it goes. If your mix was more screen-intensive stuff it might make sense that it was lower.

o2 have won in the UK

will be interesting to see what their contract is like but in teh UK its 100% legal to unlock any phone tied to one provider & use on another.

They believe they also support 3G

The lack of MMS will have people screaming over here.

I am not thrilled right now.

My iPhone appears to be dead. I just about ran the battery out today and tried to recharge. But the iPhone is no longer turning on no matter what I try.

iPhail am right?

:(

According to reports tonight, save for two lone Apple stores, the iPhone is now officially sold out at all Apple stores, although there are rumors of a Friday restock. The stock's at an all time high of 127 and change to boot.

Okay, it's not dead. I pressed the Sleep/Wake and Main Button at the same time for ten seconds to reset the thing, and miraculously it worked.

I wonder what the hell caused it to be so unresponsive...

EDIT: iTunes asked for crash information. So it crashed.

Good thing...Apple announced that they're charging $79 plus $6.95 shipping plus tax to replace an iPhone battery.

The rape is only beginning.

My cousin told me that the iphone will only be exclusive to ATT for 1 year, I thought I read on here that it was a 5 year deal.... Can someone clarify this for me?

Your cousin is an idiot

Has iTunes 7.3 been extremely unreliable for anyone else?

It corrupted my iPhone this morning and I had to erase all of its content and settings and do a restore.

3G is a hardware change. MMS is a software change. So if they add 3G, MMS is also possible. And I would imagine European operators would push very hard to get MMS support as it makes them some nice revenues

I believe it is exclusive with AT&T in the US until at least 2009. So, your cousin's wrong.

Played with one on Tuesday at my gf's work.. pretty amazing. I went to his web browser and he hit what turned out to be the back button as I had turned it and it didnt flip the picture sideways. That of course turned out to be the back button and the previous page was a site about petite teens. Nice.

Anyone check out Apple's movie trailers site with the iPhone? It's really awesome -- plays in landscape or portrait. You can watch any of the vids on Apple's iPhone site too -- the tutorials and tips, etc. Works like a charm. Granted I've only tried them over wifi and not EDGE. But they look great.

Absolutely...even for my iPod video it made things RIDICULOUS....I almost lost all my stuff because it is so buggy and retarded.

I went back to 7.2 or 7.1, I forget...

How do you change a program's dock icon? I downloaded the icons, but then what do you do?

Does it seriously not have copy & paste?

No copy and paste, although there's no reason they can't add it with a software update should they wish to do so. It's an odd omission, I'll agree.

As I've said, they need to be careful how they do this. I'm still not convinced adding a Flash plug-in is a wise decision.

First up, it's a processor hog. Just playing back animated GIFs slows down iPhone's Safari browser some, can you imagine a complex Flash app running actionscript? Processor hog also equals battery hog.

Also, there's the issue of compatibility. There's no such thing as "hover" on the iPhone. Will some Flash apps not work? Let's not forget bandwidth. A lot of Flash is pretty small but others are not.

Also, consider this: If you embed audio into a web page, Safari will not automatically play the audio. Instead it puts a little play button in the upper left that you must tap which opens the audio clip in the built in Quicktime player. Now, why do you think they did this? The reason I think they did is because if sound played on Safari, it would play over the top of your music, or your phone call or both.

Now add a Flash plug-in which can ALSO make sound. How are they going to deal with that. Imagine visiting a web page with a fun Flash game and suddenly you get a phone call. That Flash game's sound and music better shut the hell up somehow.

Do I want Flash support on the iPhone? Yes, but only if they've considered all of these issues carefully. I think most people haven't considered any of these issues.

Very good points. Hopefully they are working on some of those issues, which is why it's going to take a few months before it's added. I like light weight flash apps that are useful on websites, but I don't need flash video that eats into the battery life too much. Still, it'll be a welcome option. Besides, it'll quiet a few critics too and demonstrate how flexible the iPhone will be to upgrade.

Bloomberg reports O2 are not the UK vendor.
God I hope that's true, O2 are the sleaziest, most unfriendly, worst service, most expensive data plan company out of the big four here. I'd prefer it to be Orange, but I'd switch to Vodafone. I have serious reservations about switching to O2 though, they're atrocious.

Just got back from AX this morning and set up my Iphone <thanks to my bro for waiting in line all day while I was gone>. I love it!
