There are some newer variations, but I have this one and IMO it looks/feels the best.

do you have any problems with it stretching? I have one of the Incase skins that looks kind of similar and it has stetched looser than paris hilton's vag. Do you have to remove it to use the dock?

I'm pretty sure those are made of hard plastic, not the rubbery material that incase is made of. So it won't stretch.

I'm not quite sure what the release of the SDK will allow, but is it possible someone will be able to make a little application or add-on that could give us control of contrast?

I have the black Agent 18 Eco case. No problems with it stretching, as it's hard plastic. The top half and bottom half split easily if you want to dock. I charge my phone every night and find it very convenient.

Yeah, it's hard plastic.

anyone know of an easy way to sync my iphone w/ multiple pcs? my work pc is xp pro and my home pc is vista home prem. both running itunes 7.5. i keep googling, but nothings really coming up

Just got my iPhone last night and it's ridiculously awesome. I do have two questions though.

1) What should I get in terms of a case? I carry it in my pocket, so I figure just a screen protector will suffice. Any recommendations?

2) Can I set it to vibrate when I get a text or email? I can't really have it making noise at work but I'd like to know when I get something, too.

If those are my two biggest issues though I'm in pretty good shape. I can't wait to see what this thing turns into.

Search this thread for ideas on cases. You don't have to search far. Like in the last page or two and even just a few posts above yours. ;)

Switch your phone into vibrate mode with the little switch on the side, and it'll be completely quiet. Mine still vibrates when I get texts and e-mails by default.

1) You don't need a case. Really. The screen is pretty much bulletproof, and the only thing that has scratch potential is the chrome around the edge of the screen. If anything, get a sock or something for it.

2) There is a switch on the upper left side. Flip it so that the red dot is showing. Your phone is now in vibrate mode.

I think I found out why it wasn't vibrating in either mode. As for a case I just wanted that wouldn't smudge quite so much. Posting this from the phone at work though, which is way too cool compared to just a normal phone. I couldn't ever go back even after just a day.

is it possible to unlock the newer iPhones?

It's a lot trickier. :\ I had a small heart attack attempting it -- I really wanted to try ScummVM -- when the phone refused to re-activate, despite a restore. I eventually figured it out. If there was a one-two-three step again, I'd totally dive in.

Have any GAF iPhone owners been able to pair their iPhone or other bluetooth-enabled phone to a car's handsfree/bluetooth phone system? I've tried several times and the iPhone won't discover it (or vice-versa), even though I've heard elsewhere that others have done it with no problems on several makes/models of cars. I'm particularly looking to see if it will work with my 2005 325ix. BMW guarantees support in the 2007 models, but has yet to declare official support for 2005 or earlier. Any anecdotal info would be much appreciated! :)

So there is currently no way to unlock the new iPhones. I want to unlock one and use it in Canada with rogers. So the only way to do that is to get an older iPhone?

Week 45+ OOTB (Out Of The Box) iPhones cannot be soft unlocked. Meaning you cannot run a piece of software on them to unlock them.

You will have something like this : 7V745xxxxxx as your serial number, (on the back of the phone, or the back of the box it came in) the 45 means it was produced on the 45th week.

You can use a Stealth Sim, or Turbo Sim, which wraps your SIM card and goes in the little tray. That is a guaranteed hardware solution which DOES work. They are expensive little things however.

Some believe that as soon as Apple release a new 1.1.3 firmware upgrade, the unlock will be possible. Regardless, it's only a matter of time.

OOTB iPhones running 1.12 can be cracked to do everything but phone functions however.

If you have a brand new iPhone that you can't run homebrew on, is it possible to set your own ring tone sound? I presume you still aren't able to change your background without hacking it either?

You can do ANYTHING with the new ones, except make calls, text somebody, check voicemail. ANYTHING that requires talking to your service provider.

Obviously if you are with AT&T, no problem.

Thanks for the post. Seems like a pain, i doubt it'll be a week 45 iPhone :/

I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and get stealthsim/turbosim.

Get the phone, and wait until New Years at least before you buy one of those. Just hold on to your old phone for the time being. You know as soon as you spend money on one of those SIM wrappers the free unlock will be out.

Top Men are working on the problem.

Yeah, you can throw custom ringtones and wallpapers on out of the box phones. Sure.

So it's something that Apple is trying to fix? Yeah I might just wait it out a bit then, hopefully that update comes out sooner rather than later.

Two questions:

1) Is it possible to have a "group" in your phonebook that you could assign members to?

2) Is it possible to send SMS messages to more than one person at a time? This would also go in conjunction with question one.

Can you make your own text message sounds in Garage Band or iTunes like you can for ringtones?

You can change msg alert sounds, but it involves a little more hackery than doing Ringtones. You have to get a small MP3, and place it in a folder somewhere in the OS. Google can help more than I can.

Cool, thanks. Looks like I'll be joining the winning team later this week then (probably just in time for a new model to be announced and make mine obsolete!)

Won't happen until mid-2008 if analysts are to be believed.

Is there a way to sync new music/podcasts to the iPhone from a different computer (one that your main library isn't located on) and have it not erase all of the previous data? I'm home for my break and only have my parent's laptop, and I want to add some movies and music to my iPhone. I'm worried that when I sync it though, it'll get rid of all the stuff that isn't on the laptop.

Turn off the items you don't want to sync?

Oh really? Then how is it that I have a group of people who I work with, and a group of all my numbers? Not to mention the speed-dial/buddy list.

Edit: So, to answer your question, you need to have Address Book and a Mac. IN Address Book, you can create groups for your contacts, and when you sync your iPhone it'll create a "Groups" tab at the top of the screen when you hit the contacts button. As far as I can tell you can't create groups ON your phone, only the favorites list. But if you have any kind of address book program I'd assume it'd work the same way.

Yeah, that plastic Agent 18 case is awesome. combine it with a Crystal Film for the face and I feel totally secure in just sticking the phone in my pocket.

ok let's say I put a custom ringtone on my iPhone via jailbreak. If I update my iPhone, will I lose these ringtones?

How often should you turn off your iPhone?

Sometimes the software just behaves strangely. Typically turning it off for a bit then turning it back on does the trick but that's not always the case. The other day the ear piece just decided to stop working. It worked on speaker phone but I couldn't hear any calls if speaker phone was off. This type of thing happens all the time. The software is just buggy.

You can put custom ringtones on without jailbreak with 1.1.2. Just get a mp3 and rename the extension to .m4r and click on it and it'll automatically load in iTunes in the Ringtones tab and sync. That's why I went back to non-jailbreak. The other apps were nice, but I never really used 'em and the only thing I wanted was custom ringers and 1.1.2 allows it without hacking.

edit: and yes, an update will most likely wipe your jailbroken ringers.

Hmm actually after a little searching I'm having trouble finding anything about making custom text message sounds. Anyone had any success making your own text alert noises without jailbreaking?

I'm pretty sure you have to jailbreak to change those sounds.

So someone recommended that I use iphone.beejive.com for easy access to AIM and YIM. I looked at the site and it's quick and simple to use. Does this somehow apply to any messages I use for the month? If not, it's pretty damned cool.

Seriously? =(
You would think there would be a way to trick a file into the text message sound folder without jailbreaking the same way you can put something into the ringtone folder. Do text message sounds use the same file extension as ringtones?

Sorry I left out a step, you have to convert the .mp3 into AAC format (just load the file into iTunes, right-click and select "Convert Selection to AAC"), then rename the converted file into .m4r and load it into iTunes.

It just uses your data plan and doesn't effect your messaages at all. And yes, it's very cool! Best of the iPhone IM programs that I've see. So far

I got an iPhone for Christmas, and it when I opened up the box, the iPhone immediatly said that I need to insert an unlocked and valid SIM card to activate it. I popped open the top, examined the SIM card, and it seemed fine.

Is my iPhone just not recognizing it or what?

Take it back to the store on Wednesday.
