I have a shuffle, and I love the cute smallness of it. It's basically like a remote for your headphones...except it's actually the player! (and yes, I know some remotes have screens...).

The screens isn't a big loss to me...although, it'd be neat if they incorporated something into teh firmware, like press forward x3 and it skips to the next album in the list or something (so you could put a few albums on and skip though them easily).

People tell me there are better flash based players out there, but I'm loving the thinness of the shuffle - most otehr ones are bulky to accommodate a battery, and I'd rather have flat. Nano is mighty tempting, but it can wait - I love the shuffle - it does what I need, and that's fine by me.

i loved my 40GB photo, and now i love my nano.

Scroll wheel is fun, and makes you feel good. But it isn't perfect. Its tricky to navigate one or two items down a list - eg changing between playlists and artists on the main menu. And on the nano I've found myself trying to press 'select' and it skipping down an item on the menu because I've tweaked the scroll wheel.

So it could be improved, but its still by far the best out there

I wonder how the batteries will pan out on the nano.
My iPod mini battery has recently started acting up - I now only get 2 hours playback from a full charge. So I went to the site to check out servicing policies and I find out the iPod mini isn't even in friggin' production anymore. What's that all about?

The only thing I'd appreciate is for my battery to last longer than 2 fucking hours before being drained.

it would be cool if it just started playing when you plug it back in. you'd think it would.

My Mini does that. Got a 1st gen 4gb mini i sent in for a battery change, which returned as a 6gb-18hr battery life one. :D
Apple probably just switched it but what the hey, it rocks!

I agree. It's a matter of NOT KEEPING SONGS YOU DON'T LIKE. I know it's hard for some of you to realize, but having a media player full of stuff you don't like is retarded.

You can also (ding sing sing) have it only sync/autofill with a playlist of your choice,

i.e. "Shantyman's favorite songs"

"MAF's biggest hits"

etc. etc.

I heard the nano scratchs like 10x worse than a normal ipod, which would be insane.

I don't belive this to be the case. I just think it's because people throw it in their pocket without thinking. My 2nd gen 20 gig was just as scratch prone.

Do you carry that thing in a backpack?

At the time when I took it, I was in a hurry because I wanted to sell the mini and the buyer wanted pics of it next to the nano. So I didn't adjust it or anything. It's a cheap little fujifilm A340 camera.

If you don't want to listen to it, why keep it?
Because it sucks listening to a song that's part of a concept album and having an unrelated dance song come in right after it.

alas this one I can agree with.

My wife bought me a shuffle last week, and I didn't think I'd like it. However, the autofill feature is turning out to be quite something. Normally I use winamp for playback on the PC, so creating a separate itunes folder means I can throw a few tracks/albums/etc into that and the ipod ends up with some great stuff and I don't have to deliberate about uploading or ending up with novelty tracks on my playlist.

I have thousands of CDs, and don't really want to have my entire collection in my hand, but I welcome my new random snapshot overlords.

Now playing : Coldcut - Reboot the System(Red Snapper remix)

The nano replaced the iPod, but so long as yours is still in warranty they have to fix it. They WILL, however, go through the trouble of hunting down that specific iPod model (1st gen mini) rather than give you a second gen mini.

I love my 4G iPod photo 60gb. To my knowledge, all 4G iPods and beyond (mini, shuffle, nano) have that "autopause" feature when the headphones get unplugged. I don't think the 3Gs do that, though I could be wrong.

My iPod is getting kinda wonky, resetting for no reason, weak battery life. It's a 15 gig 3rd gen, so sooner or later I'm gonna send it in for the free battery change I'm entitled to from the lawsuit and hopefully they'll send me a brand new 20 gig 4th gen. If not at least I'll have a new battery and the 3rd gen looks cooler anyways.

The 1GB Shuffle is a great complement to my 60GB 4G iPod, particularly once I put forth the effort to make some proper playlists. The fact that it doubles as a 1GB flash drive is fantastic, too.

word on the street is that they are updating the HDD ipods this month to the 5th gen. Making it smaller overall size and possible video playback. i was going to buy a 4th gen but i think i'm going to hold out for this

edit: oh and 40GB and 80GB sizes for the rumored ipods.

I've been fighting getting an iPod for the longest time, but I think I'm finally going to break. The Nano is just too damned alluring, scratch-prone screen or not.

I hope this is true. The Nano is cool, but I need more space. My 40gb is nearly full and a 5th gen 80gb would be just the ticket.

They'll be using perpendicular drives (GET PERPENDICULAR!).
I still think 5G iPods will look like iPod Minis.

I completely forgot about freeipod thing... I just notice I am very close to getting my free ipod finally... only 2 away :(

I hope they will add the Video iPod just like the nanos I saw the site updated with :lol

And its fucking annoying because if you use anything other than Apple's earbuds, it autopauses out of the blue for no good reason. I guess the earbuds have thinker connectors than other other brands of headphones, so with anything else it thinks the headphones have been unplugged.

Glad I held off on the iPods(I have a shuffle, but that was a gift), cause I picked up my Nano yesterday. Just like with my shuffle, I skinned this one as well. Though this time around I got the clear window decals...

ipod's name is Miyavi(though I don't listen to that artist)..which is where the raven is from. The decal is on the front as well, but with no design. Great for protecting it from scratches :D

Anyone interested in buying a slightly used iPod? Less than a year old, never been outside of its iSkin (zero scratches). 20 GB B&W + black iSKin + Speck armband. I'm going to be putting it up on eBay this weekend, but I thought I'd ask here first.

Where did you get that skin?

My 40 gb photo (purchased new for $279 at best buy when the 2G photos came out) stops the music when the headphones unplug.

I love my ipod. I first bought the 20gb sony HD-NW1. Software was terrible it had problems, and when it crashed, Sony told me I could pay $827 to have it fixed. Brilliant Sony. +1 Apple

I'm no audiophile, but I just absolutely hate listening to music on the iPod. The quality is in the toilet.

Also, the iPod headphones are crap. The irony is that if you get good headphones/earbuds, they just expose the weaknesses of the iPod :lol

True, but if you change the transfer rate (I'm happy with 192) and buy new headphones...its such a great thing to have.
