They ARE flash drives, no?vatstep said:If you only want/need 2-4GB, fuck yeah
you do realize it is $250 for 4GB of non-skipping-and-can-take-a-beating flash storage, right? When comparing it next to a 5GB hard drive player it seems like a lot, but when considering you can take this thing to the gym and it can handle high impact aerobics or nice motocross or atv run, it is pretty nice.---- said:$250 for 4GB is too much. Maybe after a price drop. Headphone jack being on the bottom sucks too.

Damn you apple.
aparisi2274 said:when did u tell me anything....
i dont even think I ever spoke to you before.
Why does that suck? It seems more logical to me as that would make it more streamlined to put it back into the pants pocket after you've been using the controls.$250 for 4GB is too much. Maybe after a price drop. Headphone jack being on the bottom sucks too.
That looks pretty bad. They should concentrate on shrinking the NW-HD5 model down, and adding the much needed 2-way drag and drop feature in firmware. It's the best MP3 player they made so far, and as far as audio quality goes it beats pretty much everything else.COCKLES said:Everytime Apple have a I-POD success, it means Sony floods the market with a billion crap other MP3 players in response. sort of. you have to do all music stuff rom inside an app. Either itunes (most common) or something like ephpod. no you can't do it from explorer (yet. I imagine someone will come out with a shell extension sooner or later).Marconelly said:Ipod nano looks f'n great. Kinda unbelievably good actually, and it rubs the tech whore in me considering how much electronic goodness is packed into something so small and sleek.
Do ipods allow the music (and other files) to be just dragged and dropped onto them? I was sure they do ever since the G2 model, but I've recently heard otherwise.
Hmm, that kinda sucks. I'm used to just drag/dropping all kinds of stuff on PSP. However, more importantly, does iTunes transcode your MP3s into AAC when you drop them onto Ipod, or do they preserve them just as they are?borghe said:sort of. you have to do all music stuff rom inside an app. Either itunes (most common) or something like ephpod. no you can't do it from explorer (yet. that being said, you can set itunes to manual mode and drag and drop from the ipod in there.

it only converts them too AAC if you tell it to within itunes (convert selection to aac)Marconelly said:Hmm, that kinda sucks. I'm used to just drag/dropping all kinds of stuff on PSP. borghe said:now by standard configuration, your iPod will autosync with itunes, meaning no drag and drop. so all you would drag and drop there is songs into playlists.

Then that'd be hot.

I've never had any problems. About the only thing I can say is be careful when mass tagging your songs in itunes if you have mixed aac and mp3 in there. I added the Type column to my itunes display just for this reason.Marconelly said:Great, that answers one of my concerns. Also, I've heard that Itunes can screw up ID tags in your MP3s if you're not careful with some option. Is there any truth to that?
Yeah, I use that one too. Great software.borghe said:Though usually I will just use Tag&Rename for all of my tagging. Works with everything, even m4p (fairplay protected).
How is that a plus over device that can store a lot more music (or all your music for that matter) and play it in random order? The ability for it to store a different set of random songs everytime I go out is a HUGE plus.
eventually you are right. much like apple took away 6G right now to go to flash, eventually they will take away capacity from all "music players"* to move to flash.Manics said:If they had come in with a 4 gig and 8 gig nano I would have bought the 8 gig already. I already have a 4 gig iPod mini, I want more life.
I see this line replacing all iPods in the future.
Proabably couple thousands of dollars away. How far away is an 80 gig flash drive?
COCKLES said:
It'll be years before it'll be as afforable as 4GB flash sizes.Marconelly said:Proabably couple thousands of dollars away.
years? you ain't kidding. 1GB was king of the hill only 2.5 years ago, and now 4GB is ~$250 retail. Even if we say doubling in size every year (which is optimistic) you are still looking at at least (scribbles down and does some quick math) 4 years for 64GB flash carts and 5 years for 128GB flash carts.Ruzbeh said:It'll be years before it'll be as afforable as 4GB flash sizes.

aside from the OLED I think the sony looks bland and kind of like crap. Though the OLED is gorgeous.chaostrophy said:IMO that Sony player totally owns any iPod aesthetically. But then again I've never really liked Apple's design sense.
