Can someone explain?

This is how I convert my movies/videos

Ipod Video 320 * 240
Ipod Touch 480 * 320

But I see also in the tech specs it can handle 640 * 480

Is this the screen size? or resolution and what is best?

I am trying to make the video fit perfectly. 320 * 240 because the Ipod video screen is like a box and 480 * 320 because the touch is like a wide-screen.

Am I explaining this right?

I think what the bolded part means is that it can support files of that resolution, but it will only output them at a resolution of 480 * 320. So to save space, convert your vids to that resolution, since anything more will be useless.

It supports up to 640x480 because some people output the videos to TVs via the cables. The resolutions you're converting them to now are the resolutions of the screens on the devices.
