With Windows 10's about to die (October 2025, RIP), and companies getting bolder about harvesting user data, I'm seeing more interest in Linux and privacy-focused Android alternatives like GrapheneOS and CalyxOS. Linux distros like Mint or Ubuntu seem like an escape from the souless corporate data mining farms we're all locked into.

Is this finally Linux's big moment? Anyone messing with GrapheneOS or CalyxOS? What OS do you use on your PC and phone, and why?

I've always wanted to use Linux but the reality is that it hasn't been user friendly. You've got to know some code to get it to work. If you don't know the code then you've got to be willing to sift through forums to learn. Well, since AI has really been taking off I found that Grok or ChatGPT can resolve literally any issue in Linux. It's also a great teacher.

I've been messing with a variety of different distros for my Asus Zephyrus laptop. Started out with Ubuntu, went to Bazzite, and now I'm settling on Kubuntu as I enjoyed Ubuntu but the KDE environment is much better than gnome as a lifelong windows user. It's surprisingly easy to setup and dual boot with Windows. Gaming works well on Linux thanks to Steam's proton which is actually what got me to take another look at Linux again.

I still have Windows for VR and for general compatibility but Linux is a completely different experience than when I first tried Ubuntu back in 2006. I think this might be the beginning of a new era for Linux for reals this time. Likewise these custom android roms have tremendous upsides. Hopefully with the adoption of AI people can realize they have more choices than they initially thought.

Win10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021 EOL is January 13, 2032, it's really good, for a Windows OS, super solid and snappy and zero bloat, ie: Cortana, Copilot, OneDrive basically all the useless bullshit Microsoft pushes on their latest OS. I highly recommend it if you have to use Windows.

I want to make the switch from Win to Linux, but I don't want the gaming performance loss due to the nvidia drivers.

CachyOS here, finally switched to it on my main system as well. Luckily I don't have any forced Windows-based dependencies, so the switch was kinda easy.
I highly recommend at least trying it for a couple of days if you're sick of Microsoft's bullshit as well.

I won't vilify anyone for using Windows at this point, but I'm done.

I use mostly Windows, but I also have an iPad Pro I'm looking forward trying out iPadOS 26 on. Then I have my Android phone. I also like to try out different Linux distros.

I also use Termux which runs its own little Android thing inside Android. I like to use it to run w3m whenever I need to save on data browsing. The colored text actually has its benefits over traditional browsers.
