Is 2026 Going to be the Greatest Year in Gaming?

We say that every year but this time I truly believe it is. Especially that most of the games are my cup of tea

Now imagine if GTA6 also released this year

Announced 2026 AAA releases

Resident Evil Requiem
Mortal Shell II
Fable
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra:
Nioh 3
Onimusha: Way of the Sword:
GTA 6
Gears E-Day
Saros
Phantom Blade Zero
Forza Horizon 6
Marvel Tokon
Pragmata
007 First Light
Resonance: A Plagues Tale Legacy
Duskbloods
Mudang: Two Hearts
Lords of the Fallen 2

Possible 2026 releases
Clockwork Revolutions
Wolverine
State of Decay 3
Half Life 3

Some games will be delayed, but many more will be announced and added. Crazy it is only June. As shitty as this generation has been, 2025 and 2026 is cooking

It lacks a huge Nintendo game (3D Mario or Zelda) and Monster Hunter title for me, for it to be truly generational. Other than that, really great list.

For me there is one game I'm looking forward to somewhat --> RE9.

So no, not really. But at least the above makes it better than 2025.

Itll be a good year but not the best ever.

Peolple have already mentioned some banger years.
So Ill add another year.

How dare you ᵇᵉᶦⁿᵍ ᵖᵒˢᶦᵗᶦᵛᵉ ᵒⁿ ᵃ ᵍᵃᵐᶦⁿᵍ ᶠᵒʳᵘᵐ

Anyway, in 2026 I'll most likely mostly be playing games not from 2026 because my favorite GO-TOs are "forever games" like flight sims or mil-sims.
With that said, I see at least three or so games on that list I'll be eagerly checking out.

2025 looks to be better with DS2, KCD2 and OBVIOUSLY GOTG Expedition 33 (plus Mafia, GoY, Metal Gear Delta and few others).

GTA6 is the biggest game ever and I really like Resident Evil series but other than that I don't see anything that interesting to me on that list. Many will be delayed and HL3 is not gonna happen EVER.

Are you 13? Not even kidding, legit curious because the OP does make sense if you haven't been alive long
Mid 30's. The early and mid 2000's was a crazy exciting time. The idea of what games could be was completely unknown. Developers were experimenting way more and shitting out games every 2 years.

Having said that, all of the exclusive games were pretty equally divided among Playstation, Xbox, and PC. I only played on Playstation, as I bet most gamers only played on one console or a PC. Nowadays, 95% of games comes to every platform, except for Nintendo. From that perspective, 2026 looks way better

I would be more inclined to agree if GTA6 came out on PC in 2026. But it won't. And I'm fine with waiting.

There isn't a single game on that list that would make me buy it Day One unless reviews were glowing and previews looked amazing.

4 on there sounding solid.

GTA6
Forza Horizon 6
Fable
007 First Light

One could hold out hope for a shadow Halo drop but it would be futile.

Remember this fucking guy?

Just a thought

If it weren't for the pandemic how many of these would have released last year?

Covid really did a number on game dev this gen.

From what I've seen from State of Decay 3 and GTA 6, yes, it absolutely has a chance to be one of the greatest, but need more than 2 mega great games.

1997:

FF7
Castlevania SOTN
Goldeneye 007
Star Fox 64
Crash Bandicoot 2
Mega Man Legends
Tomb Raider 2
Quake 2
Gran Turismo
Fallout
Diablo
Age of Empires
GTA
Tekken 3
FF Tactics
Dingeon Keeper
Blast Corps
Dark Forces 2
Abe's Odyssey
Mario Kart 64
Klonoa

Just to name a few!

If we were honest with ourselves most of these would be buried deep under indie tab on steam in today's incredibly diverse and fantastic gaming world.

no.
2011 was
thats hardly everything... dark souls, skyrim, portal2, dead space2, gears3, crysis 2, uncharted3, saints row 3 (my fav) and SO ON SO ON

Not for me I've ALWAYS found GTAs gameplay to be extremely poor and the whacky characters/story typically don't do it for me either

1992
1996
1998
2001
2005
2007
2011
2013
2015
and the year of Cyberpunk
everything else since 2015 are average at best, where do year 2026 stack up in those years?

Doubt it will be the greatest, but it looks like 2026 will be better than this year at least for AAA releases.

We've gotten this exact thread every year for the last two decades now, it's just trite at this point, I'm sorry. No, there will not be a Half Life 3.

Regardless, it looks alright for weebs like me. Looking forward to

RE9
Pragmata
Onimusha
Bloodstained 2
Nioh 3
Romeo is a Dead Man
Stranger Than Heaven
Game Freak Souls-Like

Hoping to see a new trailer for the Fumito Ueda game and a confirmation that it isn't in complete development hell...

It was a very good year, followed by an equally good 1998.
