Is component video true digital?

I'm buying a new LCD (HP L2335 - best on the market), and it has component, composite, S-Video, etc. inputs as well as the standard monitor connectors. So if I plug my GC or Xbox into the monitor with the component cables, does that mean it's a digital connection, or is it still analogue?

So let's say I'm playing some lame Xbox game, like Halo 2, at 480p, widescreen, on 23" LCD with a native res of 1920x1200... it's going to look like shit, right?

Analog. What he said. The only digital conection your LCD has would be the DVI input for your PC. No console outputs a digital video signal...

It's totally analog... I'm mildly annoyed by people who refer to HDTVs as "digital", dark10x, I'm looking at you :p

If it's a CRT, then the display isn't digital, even if the video connection (signal) is, it's eventually converted to analog before it's displayed on the screen.

Through component it should look ok, except for one thing. NTSC 480p resolution does not scale up to your LCD resolution by a factor of 2. So you have to fit 480 pixels into 1200 pixels if you know what I mean, which is 2.5 and you don't have .5 pixels.

Basically it won't look as good as a HDTV which is a native progressive resolution.
