Is EA allowing custom soundtracks on the PSP?

From the PSP MVP2005 feature list:
# Dominate from Wire to Wire: Take your team all the way from opening day to the World Series in Season mode.
# Wireless Head-to-Head Gameplay: Challenge friends sitting next to you or across the room to an Exhibition Game, Homerun Shootout, or Pitcher Showdown.
# Party Play: Four players can compete in Batting and Pitching mini-games using one PSP unit.
# EA Pocket Trax: This new feature designed for PSP allows you to listen and watch music content via this built in player.

That sounds like a player built into the game to listen to your MP3s during the game.

If it is, why don't they support custom soundtracks on the Xbox so we don't have to withstand their licensed music?

Nope. It's in NFS. It's just a glorified sound test mode, basically. You can edit your playlist so you're not forced to listen to the roughly 50% godawful music they packed into the game during gameplay, but that's about it. You can't play your own music or anything.

Doesn't it actually have all the videos for the music on the disc? I could see that being somewhat entertaining, assuming you like the music on there to begin with...

I hope they make a game starring DJ Douchebag from Burnout 3!

The sad thing is that I think he's a real radio DJ in LA (not 100% sure - his ass got muted about 45 seconds after I booted the game for the first time)...

Two of the tracks on NFSUR have videos attached, but AFAIK the others do not, unless you have to unlock them.

To be honest, the NFSUR soundtrack is pretty much crap IMO. Far too much death metal-sounding screaming noise and not nearly enough actual music. I wonder who it is that picks out these tracks? I have a feeling it's some headbanger dude with no basis on what the majority of people would actually like to listen to. There are a few decent tracks on there, don't get me wrong, but the good majority of it is garbage I'd never even consider listening to normally.

Hey, I'm starting to get kinda excited here! I think an actual death metal soundtrack would be great, especially for a racing game. Unfortunately I think you might be confusing death metal with the far more annoying and lame "screamo" genre, which is much more likely to appear in an EA game than any true metal would be.

Could be -- it's all noise to me. :)

Does anyone have a list of music featured in NFSU:R?

That's weird, to put death metal music in a game like NFSU. Some kind of hip hop or electronic music seems a lot more suited for that kind of racing culture.

As for custom sondtracks, the only launch game that has any form of it, is Wipeout Pure, as it lets you download extra tracks from their web site, in some propriatary format (so you can't really use your own music). The game that is promised to use the actual custom tracks is SCEE's F1 game, and that's the only one I know someone went on record saying it will have that feature.

There are going to be more than 2 videos on NFSUR - the other ones are unlockable. This will be across all EA PSP titles - well, at least the launch ones.

If only they could have done this with Lumines.

Dude, there is no way an EA Trax game soundtrack has death metal in it. Particularly NFSU. It simply doesn't fit. *shakes head* and nu-metal is NOT death metal. I hate to be nit-picky, but when people confuse it for death metal it makes me wanna puke. Nu-metal doesn't even belong in the metal genre to begin with. Anyway why don't you post the tracklist?

No death metal here.

Yep - just as I suspected, not a single death metal track. It's pretty much exactly what I would expect from a NFSU game. John tv, just because a band has a heavy sound (say for example mudvayne) does not make it death metal. *shakes head*

Nice to see EA realizing the benefits of a portable system...port the original game, spend resources on programming an EA Trax player :P

If you guys took the time to read the post, I said "death metal-sounding noise." When a good portion of a song is just some dude screaming at the top of his lungs, that's not music... it's shit. And it happens a lot on this soundtrack.

I went through my playlist and cut out all the garbage. Since then it's been a much more enjoyable experience. But of course, songs repeat a lot more often since more than half of 'em are gone now. :lol

EDIT: OK, not quite half. I just checked -- I kept 18 of the 33 songs I've got so far.

I bet the people picking the tracks are in the same building as me :p

Hey, at least I get to pick through their old promo CDs a few times a year :p

Of course, in BO3 you have to reset the game's options to use custom soundtracks every time you boot up. There's no way to save your settings.
